Horse riding in Oblivion is painful

Ouch. I like to travel and explore a lot. Just run around and see what there is out there. Most of that time is on horse back messing with the clunky controls. Not only that but when I'm riding a horse the game becomes a little choppy and if I'm in an open area and riding fast through it there are tons of pop ups of trees, rocks and sometimes enemies. Not good for explores like me. :(

Any opinions?

true. but what annoys me the most is you can't fight while on your horse. if a troll or something attacks you while you're on your horse, your only options are to either try to out run it or to take 2 or 3 hits while you're getting off to face it. BULL PLOP!

And turning on a horse is a little annoying but whatever. i like fast traveling everywhere anyway.

I fast travel all the time for quests as well but I also love exploring the world. Man the horse is annoying. I was exploring right before I posted here. Damn horse. :(

My only guess would be your going faster through every thing and it needs time to load all of it. I always get the "Loading area..." when I'm riding a horse.

I was riding a horse once, nothing in front of me, and a Loading Area thing comes up. When its done loading which takes like a minute on this one, I'm stuck in a rock. There's no way out. And so I have to load my last save which was 30 minutes before.

ya, that happened to me. on star wars galaxies once, i was riding, and i a building loaded around me, and i was stuck in it. and its an mmorpg game, so u cant just load the previous game. that wasted like 3 days of my paid subscription, till a customer survice guy got me out.

what my problem is with horses is too much steep terrain :(
everytime i ride my horse it seems i always end up having to get off because it cant travel in the terrain. and going down steep hills i sometimes end up falling to far knocking my horse out and it slides all the way back down the hill. once it finally wakes up i have to ride or just travel all the way back up. it gets quite annoying :mad:

How do you go fast while riding the horse (other than going on your map quick traveling)?

what horse do u have? the brown ones r the slowest white ones r faster then the brown and the black ones are the fastest...thats the only way that i kno of is by buying a white or black horse 2 have a pretty fast horse

what about paint horses? i was riding prior maborel's paint horse the whole game until i got shadowmere from the dark brotherhood. i ditched prior maborel's cuz the black one "shadowmere" was way faster. but then the paint horse returned to the stables at weynon priory. so i was wondering if there was a way i can sell the old horse?

i find switching to 3rd person view on the horse makes it much much easier to control...its nigh on impossible in first person.

once ive finished exploring im going to murder every horse in the game for the crime of being crap

i just think its hard becuz ur switching from strafe mode to a horse, which can't strafe, making the controls like resident evil 4. i dont hate it THAT much.

3rd person view gives you the opportunity to see the worse animation in the game: Horse jumping. Jeezus, it is retarded looking.

GUN handled horse controls and animation way better. Not as a total dig on either game or saying one is overall better or another, just this tiny thing.

forget the horse and just run, its alil slow at first but in no time your athletics will increase and make sure to jump alot for you acro, trust me once you do it enough a horse cant even keep up. and nothing can catch you if you need to run from a fight, but who would run anyway right.

Horse riding sucks in this game heh. I'd rather run and get my skills up while exploring.
