Am I the only one that is like this.

Like when your in a game like.. GTA IV for a example and you go to the empire state building and jump off does any one feel like a weird feeling in their stomach? Kinda like in real life when your stomach drops when your on a roller coaster.

If the feeling repeats, yes, you are the only one and might want to seek help. Assassin's Creed was one of the first games I played on 360 and sort of got that feeling the first time I did a Leap of Faith, but it has not happened since, and definitely not on the level you are describing.

Judging from the responses, I'm sad to say that, yes, you may be the only one...

Its not a bad feeling just like a really small feeling nothing bad. And it only happens sometimes.

I think you get to into your games dude, seek help.

It depends on the game and how high the jump is and all that, but yes I do get that feeling and sometimes I will even brace for the impact.

Try playing mirrors edge. We you fall from a high place you watch from first person view as you slam into the ground. That will get your heart going

Happens to me in some games, like jumping from really high areas in Crackdown. Ignore the comments telling you to seek help...

This. I don't know why people are saying seek help...

I have only come across this in one game and that's in Assassin's Creed II whenever I jump into the water from a high-ish distance.

Yeah, the achievement in Assassin's Creed 2 for jumping off Giotto's Campanile made me feel like that. It was a big-ass drop haha, I've never felt it anywhere else though.

Are you scared of heights at all? I wouldn't be surprised if this feeling is increased by that, I'm not 100% solid with heights myself.

To mock, perhaps.
As a person who has jumped off great heights, no I do not feel that way in video games.

I get kinda tense when I'm climbing up really tall things in games, but that's about it. And I attribute that to a phobia of having to climb badly designed buildings in Crackdown 2.

I know exactly what you're talking about. I got that feeling when I played Assassin's Creed II performing a leap of faith. It would feel like my stomach dropped and I'd get a little light headed. I didn't get a similar feeling playing the first one through and I'm not getting it playing Brotherhood so it really doesn't make any sense.

Nope not at all I go on roller coasters and I've been bungie jumping.

Perhaps your television is just too damn high definition. Is it so crisp and clear you feel that you are there?

I got nothin.

Whenever I do some high jump in a game my legs start shaking and I attempt to brace myself. Strangely enough, it only happens when I know I'm going to take some form of damage.

It doesn't happen to me, but I know what you're saying. I remember playing The Saboteur and having a "sense of height" feeling when standing at the top of the Eiffel Tower. I've been to the Eiffel Tower and had that falling feeling when looking over the edge. Games have gotten really advanced in certain areas. Take racing games, sense of speed is one of NFS best attributes.

Yeah, I definitely get that feeling, and I love it! It's exhilarating. What's wrong with getting into your video games?? Some of you have no imaginations. LOL Let the child in you out to play once in a while. It feels great!!

I'd say you're getting your moneys worth from gaming. :)

Odd though that in general people might ask if it's weird to feel vertigo whilst sitting on your sofa and playing a videogame. But no-one asks if its weird to stab people through the neck/chest/back etc for hours on end whitohut flinching....

that doesn't really seem normal... I get that feeling when I play and I'm drunk but it's probably the booze

I never put it together for you, but there is a phenomenon where people have a thrill seeking behaviour. People are scared of heights, for lack of a better term, not because they are afraid of falling, but because they are afraid that they might want to jump for the thrill of it. Leads a lot of people to base jump. Anyway, if you bungie jump, that might be a connection to that phenomenon.

I remember playing The Saboteur and having a "sense of height" feeling when standing at the top of the Eiffel Tower. I've been to the Eiffel Tower and had that falling feeling when looking over the edge.

Come to think of it, I had that feeling, too. Not major, but a little. Went splat 4 times trying for that achievement.

Why everybody say's he has a problem? Maybe he has a sickness for hights?

Some japanese players can't play FPS because they going sick. Hideo Kojima for example :) he can't play FPS games.

I got that feeling to, somebody metioned Mirrors Edge and it's true. Some of the hights make me feeling a little dizzy.

So it's normal, i don't like rollercoaster and bungie jumping too....

This has actually happened to me once or twice while playing Assassin's Creed, whilst climbing the highest towers and such. Other than that, no :)

The only time I feel that is during fast paced 3D things such as PhilharMagic which is a 3D show at Disney's Magic Kingdom, or on things such as motion simulators (which nowadays don't do shit for me). Unfortunately with things like this, I have to convince myself in-order to get that feeling.

Gaming-wise though, not at all.

It's called motion sickness. It's a common, natural disease that is not the easiest to cure.

Perfectly normal. If you're feeding your mind the right stimuli it will cause reactions in the body the same as if it were actually doing it. Most people when gaming are in a mild hypnotic state which makes it easier for the brain to be "fooled".
I'm sure most gamers have had an adrenaline rush from playing a game - another example of the body reacting to what you are doing on screen.

Everyone is different as everyone experiences the world differently.

Finally, a good post! Nothing's wrong, you're just getting focused into your game which is what every game developer hopes to accomplish. Well done.

Like Capn Doug, Assassin's Creed did that to me the first time too.

I was : wow they did a GREAT FUCKING JOB on this game!!!!!! :woop:

Still get it on occasion. It's kinda fun, then you know the game is nice and immersive.

Therapy unnecessary. Go rock climbing, being 60 feet in the air with someone you don't know holding the rope will make the video game heights go bye-bye ;)

I actually enjoy getting absorbed in my game enough to have these sort of effects, and yes, they sometimes happen. I know I spook horribly in "scary" games since I get so into it.

IMO, it isn't a flaw or sickness or even all that abnormal. It's just a gaming preference.
