View Full Version : The Little Things...
... That make this game a little worse:
Pits, Um... hard to make it so that people actually fix your car?
Long Races, Nobody wants to do 7 laps of Laguna Seca as a normal race.
Achievements, some of them are stupid, and a lot are the same things with different names (Too much car emphasis) It draws you away from experiencing the single player fully. (You dont sell any cars)
Replays. Is it really that hard to make them different? It's the EXACT same every lap when you watch it.
Not enough vinyls. Not enough shapes and vinyls. Some essential things are missing.
Customization. Not enough bumpers/spoilers for non-tuner cars. All have same effect.
Cars. Not enough simple production cars. Too many race cars.
Car Build-up: It seems you get very fast cars very quickly in career.
Auction House. Why cant it work more like eBay? So that you don't have to sit there for an hour to buy a car. Just bid, place your max. bid or buyout. Easy as pie. Would've saved hours of my life.
Changing Regions. Why is there no warning that says it goes 5x more expensive to change again?
Licenses. (Opinion) Actually getting them. I would like to do things like driving tests, and challenges to be able to access better races., etc.. Like in Gran Turismo.
Online Connectivity. Not sure about you guys, but me and friends have been having a really shitty time trying to play online overall. We can't connect to other games very often.
Lag after a "pause" in single player.
Random Glitches. Self-explanatory. (Ex. Having 00:00.001 as a lap time, or driving on "glass")There tons more that I thought of before, but cant remind myself now.
What are your guys thoughts? Did I miss any?
For me, these things are signs of a rushed game. When the game is good but has very little minor problems, I think it means that it wasn't tested enough nor polished enough.

I think you did a great job highlighting some points I've agreed with here recently. One I'm really finding frustrating is the after market body kits for most cars are only the Forza brand stuff, unless the car is a big name tuner...
Also the whole race car vs. production car is a great point. Without a doubt, there should be more production class vehicles that we can turn into better cars, it's no fun driving pure racing machines from the start...

semi-sorta agree. all you have said is true, but its also what i seem to like about the game. there have been small things (like, as you stated, HUGELY down-grading the pit from Forza1).
but, truely, i have yet to think, "damn i hate that about this game" about anything, i love it all.

The one thing which bugs me a lot is the way the other cars behave when you lap them. They race you as if it were for position, often crashing into you, or at best ruining you're lap time by a few seconds, and when you are trying to get high on the leaderboards that can be a real pain. They should have made it so lapped opponents let you through.
As for the points you made Maka, i would agree with most of them, except for the long races one because personally i consider a race to be long if it is more than 10 minutes, which, barring the endurance races, most of the races can be completed sub 10 minutes (bar a few).
I too was disappointed when i cruised into the pits my first time expecting a herd of men to run around my car and instead finding nothing! But on the upside the games' positives overshadow the negatives by a large margin, but lets face it, a game which took this long, had so many delays, and had so much hype, should be absolutely perfect. And you're right these little things do take the shine off it, but only a miniscule amount:)

I agree with you 100% Maka there is a lot of things that do make the game look awful, also i agree with you Xterm1n8or (http://209.62.40.195/forum/member.php?u=2720) as when you lap a car the lapped cars react very strange and can be a pain in the butt. :(

Here is one I didnt see on the list, the game freezing up in the middle of a race.
Didn't experience this one at all. However, my complaint at this point is the game is so damn repetitive. More tracks ... more tracks! The game is becoming a chore. I've got to build up more money to change my region to Europe ( final change) so that I can purchase the remaining cars. I'm not even gonna bother with the 30pt online achievement...
I added 4 more points.

I for one HATED the licenses in Gran Turismo, I would be punished and prevented from playing an entire class of cars because I wouldn't be able to complete a license test? That is one thing that totally turned me away from that series.

How about we list whats actually right with the game. The stuff that sets it apart from, in my opinion, the other utterly terrible racing series out there.
Most of the stuff you listed is probably true, but it's to be expected from a product made by humans. People aren't perfect, alas the stuff they make aren't going to be either, no matter how much time is put into it. Every game has issues, it's how bad the issues are and how much they directly affect your gameplay that matter. Pits don't bother me too much, it does take long to fix your car, but that's why I drive extra careful and not extra retarded by running into everybody. The pits might be the only thing I find annoying in the game, so I agree with you there, but this isn't Nascar...so come on.
Long races? What's wrong with long races. Having personally played Nascar like 5 years ago(God forbid that happens again) I'm accustomed to endurance races, and in this game it's actually fun to do them.
Achievements, well I personally can give a rat's ass about achievements since that doesn't give a game kudos or take away from it in my eyes. But for sake of the post, I will say that the achievements are pretty standard. Variations of achievements that are already there not TOO hard but maybe time consuming achievements and stuff like that.
Replays...I can't really say anything here, I can say I have seen better replays in games, but I can also say I've seen far worse. In the end..it's just replays and I can't be bothered to watch 10 minutes of a race that I just finished lol.
Licenses. Oh my god, licenses is a specific feature in a different racing title. It's what made Gran Turismo unique, and it's what made that game suck complete ass. What makes this game unique is the specific events they make you do...at least in terms of single player.
Region Change. Well I don't plan on doing region changes but I did notice it's 100,000 for a change. If that increases for a second and third change and there is absolutely no warning about this change first time around then I understand, that does suck.
Vinyls, this is a bored and tired feature in racing games these days. You pick up a racing game and expect it to be the same old circuit racing with pretty cars. Forza is different, and even so, it still gave you the ability to make your car pretty. Maybe you haven't seen them, but there are plenty of designs out there that are so good, people think they uploaded pictures from a computer. Apparently the stuff they have is enough. Let's not forget 1000 layers too, games before this would only let you do like 4 to 6.
Customization. Hmm, this again goes with the pretty car concept. NFS is there for stuff like this. Forza is real, and frankly...adding pretty bumpers and spoilers also makes your car heavier and makes it perform worse. They let you do that with cars that make sense...I don't see who drives a Buick in real life with pimped out bumpers..lol.
Cars. WTF? Not enough...wow. There are so many cars in this game I don't see myself racing each one. I think there is enough production cars in the game, why would you care so much anyway? The car ends up being this high end racing car anyway. I don't know what you meant by this one, but generally a racing title means racing cars. Then I bring up the Buick again...I don't know how that car ties into anything *sigh*
Car Buildup. This depends on how much of a life you have. I've had the game since it's release and I've done 113 races out of the possible 314 races. That is alot, but I yet to get into the *fast* car races. I've only done I think 2-3 S class races in career. Everything else has been A and lower, mostly D and B though.
Auction. it doesn't work like eBay because it's a game and not a million dollar website made solely for that purpose. There is a max buyout option and it's only logical that you put a time limit on the item...because it is an auction, not a bake sale. Then again...maybe I don't understand what you meant, or you aren't being specific enough.
Connectivity. This is a personal issue and varies person to person, hardly has anything to do with the game. I've never had problems connecting with people. Although I also don't play with people in Switzerland and Poland.
Glitches. Agree with you here, glitches are never good. Although I haven't seen any in this game...and taking shortcuts through the dirt isn't a glitch.
I agree with you on maybe 2 or 3 things, but everything else is just personal problems. None of this stuff makes the game worse, it just makes it worse for you, as a person. The game itself is fabulous, and they did a wonderful job with allowing me to use my real life knowledge in the game. Did you know that you can actually use your real life knowledge of cars into this game and it actually helps? I think that's pretty fucking awesome, good job Turn 10.

A good race for me lasts 3-5 minutes. Not 12-15.
I also don't enjoy watching a 15 minute replay of me doing 9 laps of Laguna Seca. But when I hire a driver and have nothing better to do, while commercials are going, I really don't want to see my driver doing the same thing 40 times in a row. As if it was that hard to make the replays different every lap. The game was rushed, theres no other explanation.
Vinyl, sure there tons of them and people have made many shapes and designs with them, but many essential ones are missing, making our lives that much harder. Also, Vinyl options are kinda crappy, I mean lets say I want to "Circle" with a whole in it. Than I want to make another circle, same size as the first one, but with a thinner boarder, It's impossible.. You cant do it.. Stupid.
By Car Build-Up I meant that I had an R4 car within the first couple days. An S class in the first couple of hours. One thing I admire about Gran Turismo is that you don't get the best cars fast. Remembering that game now, it took over 15 hours to be able to afford your first semi-good racing car.
Have you tried buying a desired car in the auction house? There is a time limit, but the car only sells once nobody bids for it for 2 minutes, and when theres a car that many people want, you end up sitting there for an hour, bidding, because the time keeps resetting to 2 minutes. This is ridiculous. We should be able to put up max. bids.
It's not only with playing with people from Switzerland or Poland, It's all the time no matter what. There are games like Halo, where even with my shitty connection I can play with almost anyone, and always play a game. But theres some games like this one and Lost Planet, where I have yet to play a decent online game with random people.
By glitches I mean big things. Let's not be children. Driving through dirt to shave seconds of your time isn't a glitch. A glitch is when you rank second in the world because the game fucked up. Ask me... I'm now around 5th and only because the game accidentally gave me a 00:00.001 lap time. Also, glitches with people losing cars they bought from the auction house. Sending cars, freezing up, disappearing cars, "Driving on Glass" and countless other bullshit, that shouldn't be there.

I miss the music while driving a race :(
And some night tracks, have only seen daytime tracks.
In my oppinion, i prefer Gran Turismo more! miss thoose games. specialy the first and the second release.
One thing that outright pisses me off about this game is the lag after you pause the game. If you're racing and something comes up, you pause. Sometimes it happens during a turn or a hard brake. Once you un-pause it lags th screen for a good second, totally screwing you up. It horrible. I was getting a very good time, and than I paused, only to come back and crash into a wall because it just didnt show anything on my screen until it was too late. It also lags a little in between looking back and forth and changing views.

Ive just found another thing which downright pisses me off. I just qualified for a tournament only to find my race is scheduled for 2.15am my time! I mean what the hell are turn 10 playing at, its a disgrace. Basically it means unless you're an insomniac who races better at 3 in the morning than 3 in the afternoon (which im not), then europeans cannot win tournaments. How unfair what a utter disgrace i am so pissed. excuse the language, but come on who says that is fair.
It doesn't take a genius to work out that the only places wich matter are the us, europe, and australia, so if a tournament race was held at 9pm gmt, 4pm eastern, and not too early in australia, what would be wrong with that. It strikes me the people organising the tournaments are thick as s***. not happy whatsoever, will be boycotting my race and advise all europeans to get onto ms about this.:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

I would of liked to have seen more ways to make money. You should get money for every Perfect lap and race as an example.
lol Yeah the novelty of the endurance races wore off after the first one. Seriously. I dozed off twice while doing the one at Laguna Seca - drove right off the side of the track. At least they are "single" races and not series like the other trophies.
I too have stopped looking at any car without a buyout tag. I spent just over an hour bidding back and forth on some dinky Mercedes just trying to get a price break on an out of region car. At least a dozen times I had the winning bid with 1 min left then *plink* "You've been outbid!" and 2 minutes back on the clock. Stupid.

Pits, Um... hard to make it so that people actually fix your car?
Agreed. I never played forza 2 but the pit seems very basic. Kinda PS1 level. I'm used to seeing pit crews move in this day and age.
Long Races, Nobody wants to do 7 laps of Laguna Seca as a normal race.
Endurance races are great because you're expecting them to be long. But I grow increasingly annoyed that the normal races keep getting longer as I get further in.
Achievements, some of them are stupid, and a lot are the same things with different names (Too much car emphasis)
I think this game is actually fairly well balanced for achievements. It gives you enough of them early on to draw you in (even if as you say they're dupes such as the start 8th/Lowest PI and the No assists/no assists+hard difficulty). Then the rest you'll get with time going through the game, and then finally there are only two online achievements. I hate online achievements and I think it's great that there are only two for this game.
Replays. Is it really that hard to make them different? It's the EXACT same every lap when you watch it.
I've never watched a replay so far, I tend to not watch replays on any game.
Licenses. Actually getting them. I would like to do things like driving tests, and challenges to be able to access better races., etc.. Like in Gran Turismo.
I couldn't disagree more. I hated the License tests in Gran Turismo. What's the point in buying a game and then being unable to play it cos they put license tests in. Gran Turismo license tests are what drove me to Action Replay. I just could not do them.
Changing Regions. Why is there no warning that says it goes 5x more expensive to change again?
I've not got this far but it does seem overly harsh.
Not enough vinyls. Not enough shapes and vinyls.
I think the vinyl editor is hugely generous. It's by far the biggest I've seen and gives EA something to work on for the next NFS game (if it has vinyls this time)
Customization. Not enough bumpers/spoilers for non-tuner cars.
A minor thing for me. I tend to not even bother with them on my cars.
Cars. Not enough simple production cars. Too many race cars.
Definitely. There seems to be too many variations of the same car. It really needs lots of different models as well as the variations of each models. But it has my personal favourite car in (MR2) so I'm happy, just a shame I tuned it too much to be used in most races.
Car Build-up: It seems you get very fast cars very quickly in career.
I don't mind this. It's yet another thing that is an improvement over Gran Turismo. I prefer a racing game to be about the fast cars that you're unlikely to drive in real life. If I wanted to drive a slow ass Nissan Primera I'd go out for a drive. However I would prefer if there were more sports/exotic cars and less race cars, race spec road cars are fine. But there's like 8 different versions of each race car.
Auction House. Why cant it work more like eBay? So that you don't have to sit there for an hour to buy a car. Just bid, place your max. bid or buyout. Easy as pie. Would've saved hours of my life.
Haven't ventured into the auction house yet. But I can see myself treating it the same as ebay and only going for Buyout (Buy It Now) prices. I never bother bidding on ebay.
Online Connectivity. Not sure about you guys, but me and friends have been having a really shitty time trying to play online overall. We can't connect to other games very often.
I've only done a handful of races online but each one went through fine.
Lag after a "pause" in single player
I don't seem to experience this. Maybe your 360 is trying to tell you something.
Random Glitches. Self-explanatory.
Also I don't think I've seen a single glitch. What are the glitches that you've experienced.
All in all I think it's a very polished game. There are some minor niggles. There could be much more in the way of car models but to get a game that in my eyes is better than Gran Turismo out on time is a fantastic achievement.
It's easily my favourite racing game to date. And that's saying a lot as I'm usually more of an Arcade guy (Burnout, NFS etc).

What are your guys thoughts? Did I miss any?
*Havent seen a racing game yet that people come out and fix your car.
*Thats what the hire driver button is there for.
*Not one game has all good achivements.
*How in the hell would they make your replay differnt when YOUR driving.
*Thats why i threw gran turismo 4 in the garbage. licens thing is stupid.
*Befour you hit OK if you read it says $100,000.
*Ive seen pictures that look real with what we got. Maybe your not good enouf.
*Theres alot of simple cars. the reason theres not more is becuz most cant keep up.
*Thats good that you get fast cars quickly. altho i wouldnt consider R type classes fast.
*the on thing i agree with, with you.
*NEver had a problem. but i have T4.
*Never had lag.
*Glitches are always fun.
Trouble Reading a little?
*I didnt buy the game to use the "hire Driver" button for every race. I actually pay $70 to have fun, and not sim 70% of the game because the races are 15 minutes long.
*It's true, no game has perfect achievement, but these ones are far from good. Because of them, you dont get to experience single player very well, because you keep the cars you dont want instead of selling them and buying a better car.
*No comment on your replay comment. Obviously your car isnt going to do a back flip if you didnt do one. Hire a driver for an endurance race, and watch 3 laps. Tell me if you saw something similar about each lap... They always look the exact same, for each track no matter what. (ie. From the start you see the "hood View" than through the first turn you seen a view from the back left side. And it continues in a pattern every lap.
*The Licenses are an opinion. I liked them because they were challenging and added depth into the game. Just because you couldnt do them isnt a thing to complain about. If you couldnt pass the license test than how could you race?
*You didnt actually read my comment. Why answer if you clearly didnt read it.
*I'm definitely good enough. I can make art with it too. But it's not about that. A talented person could make the most beautiful car with only circles. But it's making his life too hard, harder than it should be. I dont think theres enough stock shapes, and it makes us work more than we should.
*That comment made no sense.
*You dont consider R classes fast? Hmm.. thats odd. They're the fastest class. What do you want? I mean this isnt Ridge Racer.
Never had connection problems? What about that game you played with me where you randomly lagged out? Or when you couldnt connect to me not long after?
*Its not lag, but more of a "missing" second. What to see it. Take a race car on a track with a lot of turns. GO into the turn fast. Start to brake hard and slightly turn. than during this Pause. Now wait 15 seconds. Than unpause and by the time anything shows up on your screen your car will be a lot further than when you paused it.
*Glitches always fun? Yea for sure, like accidentally getting 2nd place in the world, and getting 3 clan invites a day from random people. Or racing and having the road disappear in front of you.

Yea for sure, like accidentally getting 2nd place in the world, and getting 3 clan invites a day from random people. Or racing and having the road disappear in front of you.
The road disapearing is a fault of your 360 not the game. I've finally experienced that glitch. It only happens when my 360 has been on for 4+ hours, when it happens you can hear the disc skip and that is the reason for it. If it was a fault of the game it would be consistently happening, not randomly and the disc wouldn't be heard to skip.
I've also had a few weird noise glitches when my console's been on for hours. I'm not sure whether this is disc/console related or game.
The time glitch thing tho is definitely a fault in the game. I havent experienced it but I know a few people who have.
So apart from the major time trial glitch and the small graphical and noise glitches this game is flawless from my experience.
I for one HATED the licenses in Gran Turismo, I would be punished and prevented from playing an entire class of cars because I wouldn't be able to complete a license test? That is one thing that totally turned me away from that series.
Ditto. They suck. Forza is great, there are some nasty glitches, but so far so good, I've not played much so my opinion may change soon!

One more thing to be added to the list:
People selling their "limited designs" for cars on ebay.
£2.99 for a PAC-MAN lick of paint on a Ford Focus. (And not a very good PAC-MAN print either).

Hehe... that's just so true :P, anyway. I also think they haven't done a great job in visualizing the speed in the game. When you enter a corner, you have to take in mind you'll drive probably twice as fast as you think. Of course you'll get use to it, but still you'll need to adapt every time when you changed to example Dirt or PGR. And don't get me wrong, it is just the fact that for some how it looks like you drive 50 and you'll see the speed indicator pointing 100... it's just not realistic... maybe it's just me, but i find it very confusing.

Pits, Um... hard to make it so that people actually fix your car?
(Ex. Having 00:00.001 as a lap time, or driving on "glass")
Pits: Yes it would be nice to see your pit crew actually work on the car, or maybe work on the body damage a little. (and yes there are games that do this. My nascar game on the PC has the crew in motion over the wall, fixing the car, replacing tires/fuel, even an official watching over it all) Also what is with the AI not knowing how to drive on pit road. Too many times they come to almost a stop before the stall and while leaving.
Length: I don't mind 5-7 laps at first, but after racing the same track in every series, it does tend to get quite boring. Maybe if they added in a difficulty option for 50% races, but for a 10% decrease in money.
Achievements: Pretty good for the most part. Would have liked a few more online, and less on the car collecting. Getting way too many cars in my garage that will never touch the track. Maybe achievements for owning at least half of each region?
Replays: I understand what you mean. Everytime at the line it will be roof cam, every turn 1 will be tv cam from right side, turn two = door mounted cam, etc. Would be nice if it was a little more random, with maybe an option for only tv cams and such.
Vinyls: Pretty happy with most of them. Would have loved the option for a freehand tool.
Customization: Very lacking here. Definitely could use more bumpers and wings.
Cars: Definitely needs more variety. How many Vipers do I need in my garage?
Cars: I think the build up is pretty good. I don't mind getting better cars early... can't race some of them anyways until you get to a higher driver level and open up races they are legal in.
Auction House: Could use an ebay makeover. Each bid has a set amount that you can put.. no more no less.. it should be where you can input the amount you want to bid. Also, nothing like going head to head with another bidder for an hour on a car that had only 2 minutes left... Feels like a basketball game.
Changing regions: The increase to change regions is rediculous. I though the first change was bad at 100,000, but I look into changing again and now it's 500,000
Licenses: Wasn't too bad of an idea in GT, but got boring fast and didn't feel needed.
Online Connectivity: Haven't really had any problems... yet
Pause Lag: None at all
Glitches: Haven't had the .001 glitch, but have seen the road dissapear twice. The wall and grass was there, but no track. After about 100ft, it came back.
