I'm from Germany and I'm trying to download Case West since a couple of hours via xbox.com from my UK-Profile since I'm not at my Xbox right now.
Getting a "Oops this shouldn't have happened-error message".
Someone on gamefaqs posted that he tried to download it from his Xbox-Dashboard and got a message saying. "not available in your region".
Can anyone confirm this?

Totally sucks. I literally put this up in my DL queue right when I could, and it was denied right at 99%. Totally, absolutely, and completely sucks, because I actually spent 800MSP for it not to work. I f**king hate Microsoft and their bullsh*t right now.

That sounds more like a technical problem than MS not releasing it in Japan. I.e. you shouldn't have been able to get the non-Japanese version of the title. If you did get the J version then try downloading it again or something?
As for Germany, I'm pretty sure it's been announced that it's not getting released over there (as well as another country, might be Australia or Austria). I believe that's more to do with the regulatory boards than MS/Capcom, perhaps they're strict because there is no way of denying underage players from buying and playing it. Is it just me or have no Dead Rising games been released in Germany?

Usualy in the first 10-30 minutes the region locked games are region free and then they get locked.
Case West was LOCKED from the start! :(

It's not being released in Germany that's why I'm using my UK-Profile which works for all games, add-ons, etc besides the ones that are region locked.
So seems this game is blocked now...
I feel sorry for you guys having spent the points and not getting the game. At least I wasn't even able to spend the points.
Still sucks anyway.

No, you cant!
This error pops out
Uh oh... that shouldn't have happened.
It appears you've found a glitch in the system.

Yeah wanted to mention this according to the demo as well.
And even if I would be able to download the demo I would need to be US MS-points since you cannot put EU points on a US-Account.
but thanks anyway.

The most recent dashboard update really did a number on VPN connections. It's even worse than it was before. Now, the ONLY way you can use VPN on Xbox LIVE is through tunneling.
I'm hating Microsoft right now.

Again, I'm no MS apologist (far from it usually) but region locking is more to do with the regulatory boards in your countries.
Think about it - why would MS/Capcom want to lose money by not selling the game in certain regions? There's a good few thousand sales lost due to region locking, that's a lot of money both companies could have made.
There might be edited versions coming out later anyway.
Actually allowing you to spend your MSP on the product is wrong however, regardless of whether you should actually be attempting to get it or not. Glitch/technical issue that should be avoided.

I just downloaded the demo from the german XBL.
I don't know why it ist there anyway...
My question: Is it possible to buy it from a other marketplace althought there is the IP-Ban?

I would agree with you on this one if the Japanese version of this game WASN'T THE SAME EXACT F**KING VERSION AS THE US ONE! I downloaded Case West Trial with my Japanese LIVE account, and the first thing it said when I started it up was "Rated M for Mature", which is the US/Canadian ESRB rating system. In Japan, it's CERO Z. The whole demo was in English. Not even Japanese subtitles, and this was while I was playing with my Japanese account. It's the SAME GAME.
I don't feel ripped off because of ratings on this one, I feel ripped off because Microsoft is treating this game as if it is different, when it reality, it is the same game in both America and Japan. I call bullsh*t on this one.

Region-locks work in their individual regions and nowhere else. You shouldn't have access to a non-Japanese version, just as I should never access to a Japanese version of a title.
Basically, you shouldn't be seeing other region's age ratings, but that's their fault.

It seems to be the same version, but it does show up as Case West JP when you download it. The main reason it is region locked and requires a credit card is because, as you said, it is adults only in Japan and banned in many other countries. This was the same case with Case Zero.

I'm from Germany as well.
Out of curiosity I clicked at the demo about two hours ago via xbox.com.
To my surprise it was put into my queue.
If my console actually downloads the demo once I'm online I cant say, however.

Lucky guy ^^ Now it's completely blocked ( well at least if you try to download it from "the dashboard" ).
I came frrom Germany as well and got a UK-Acc. When Case Zero was out there were many hours I think to get it cause it has been a bit later region blocked. At the same time right now I got Case Zero, first trial then full game ( just another date ;) ). But now unfortunately Case West has been "faster" region blocked....:(

That's just part of my rage. Normally when I download demos on my Japanese LIVE account, I see CERO "X" (Depending on the grade) as it begins. This time with Case West, it was RATED M. And also, my Japanese account's preferred language is Japanese, and the demo had absolutely no Japanese.
This is just stupid. Basically, even if I do get the JP version of Case West, it will be exactly the same as the NA version of Case West, which I've also already purchased.

You're probably playing on an NTSC 360, right? Microsoft is supposed to refund your points if the transaction is not completed. And it seems the game is not exactly the same. You are restricted to only playing with people who have the Japanese version.

I know that last part isn't true. There are a ton of Americans playing right now, and I can see that on my Japanese account (In the game).

I live in Japan, but I wanted to download the U.S. version, and also put points in my account just today for it...but to my surprise, region locked OUT. I would just download the JP version, but for some reason it does not accept MS points and requires a credit card with a charge of 1000 yen. I don't have a JP credit card since they're pretty much useless in Japan, as it is primarily a cash country. Damn.

Surprisingly, you can use a non-Japanese credit card.

Are you sure you can't change the payment type to Microsoft Points? I didn't check, but normally when there are money amounts on the games or DLCs, you can push Y right before purchase to buy with Microsoft Points.

Games created for multiple regions often have all supported languages and boot in the default system language and settings. That has nothing to do with Region Locking. If I boot Resident Evil 5 in my Japanese system I get the Japanese rating and the title changes to Biohazard 5. The region lock is dealing with how to keep content in the correct hands. You would often see Japanese ratings or content (like subtitles) based on your System settings or the contents planned release area at launch (exampe: if I downloaded Onechanbara from Japanese market I would find only Japanese rating and text [aside from some words/menus] because it wasn't developed for release outside Japan and U.S. release was a completely seperate development at a later time).

No, Case Zero and West were locked as a yen purchase so underage players can't buy them. It is why Zero was delayed in Japan. Microsoft Japan couldn't release a title with that much violence that could be - freely with Trial - downloaded by anyone.

Yeah. I checked that out myself before I went to bed last night. Looks like I'll have to steal one of my friends laptops and use a VPN connection again. *sigh*

I used this site last night :
http://www.hideipvpn.com/
Then Created a normal vpn connection in windows to a uk server ( where my xbox live account was created )
I share the connection in windows and then configure my xbox to use my pc's ip address as its gateway and that sorted it out.
I download the first 1% with the vpn , then disconnect and restart xbox without vpn.
Download until 99% , then connect via vpn again and get last 1%.
Been playing it now , So I hope you guys come right....

I had to do something similar like this for Case Zero since I had points on my US Account but I'm in NZ but it's easier to just download the Trial version of the game on an account that lets you then just let it finish on the account that is getting the full game... is how I did it anyways should work fine unless the JP files is acutally different.
