Ok This news was released as of today here goes:

Microsoft has responded to mounting accusations that Xbox 360 is damaging consumers’ discs – maintaining that there is “no systematic issue” with the console.

Calls for a review into problems with damaged discs came to a head this week, when EC for Consumers Meglena Kuneva confirmed that she had written to Microsoft requesting information on its plans to resolve the issues.

In a statement, Microsoft told MVC that it has responded to Kuneva – and that faulty discs are likely to have been caused by ‘improper use’ of the console.
It said: “There has been correspondence between Commissioner Kuneva’s cabinet and Microsoft’s Belgian offices.

“We are working in an open dialogue to help explain our position and all the efforts we are taking across the EU to address any concerns that our consumers may have.

“If used properly, Xbox 360 consoles do not damage discs... there is no single root cause or systemic issue with any of the Xbox 360 consoles.

Yeah, that's happened to me before too. My Gears disc is in an appalling state.

It's weird that M$ seems to say that it isn't their fault though. I read an article the other month written by a guy who's discs were scratched by using the 360, and when he called up M$, they replaced his discs and sent him 4 games as an appology.

Seems like it worked out well for him, guess he was one of the lucky ones. :)

Anyone elses discs been effected by the console? I use the console in exactly the same way as mentioned in the manual, but it seems that there is no escaping the sratches.

I went thru 4 GoW Disc's because they kept getting scratched from my 360. And one of them last 2 hours before my xbox scratched it and i cant play 2 maps. But now my shadowrun got 3 gashes and i couldnt play 2 maps so i had to get a new one before i even took it outta my box

It's not weird. That's the way M$ does things. They still won't fess up to the fact that they have the single worst built console unit ever. Failure rates are absolutely pathetic, but accordding to M$ it's within acceptable limits:eek:

I know, the build quality of these machines are awful. I still can't beleive that M$ simply ignore their customers. They're well aware of the problems, but they just turn a blind eye.

If the console itself wasn't so bloody fantastic, then I'm sure there'd be a lot more angry Xbox customers. Acctually, I suppose if we were a lot more demanding, then M$ perhaps wouldn't ignore the problems.

hahahahahahaha that bullsh1t I have a case modded 360 and i can see the inside of the dvd drive and the problem is there is a metal peice that sticks up a little bit and touches the disk at sometimes. i tried to bend it back down but my dad said it would ruin the laser.

I've never had any discs scratched during usage. Might it be from how the console is set up, vertical or horizontal perhaps? I always play mine sitting horizontal because it makes me feel safer when loading and unloading discs.

Guess it also depends on which drive your unit has. There are three different ones, as I understand it.

I find it extremely weird, because I received a check for 2000 and something dollars regarding all my complaining and console repairs. On top of that they have replaced every game even titles made by company such as EA, but they would only replace them w/M$ titles. It's also weird that a former M$ employee working on the 360 before launch knew that MS had faulty consoles and rushed them so they would end up w/a big holiday revenue. After being fired he filed a lawsuit regarding MS knowing about their faulty consoles and MS settled out of court for a substantial amount of cash.
