(note before I post I don't want or expect a sticky on this)
The towel trick is a method people who have the three red lights use to temporarily fix their Xbox 360.
Matierals Needed-
Towel(s) big enough to wrap around the 360
A 360 with the three red lights
A outlet to connect the 360 to
Before starting this: Take off all accesories as not to damage them in the proccess.
Step 1) Connect your Xbox 360 to a wall outlet and turn it on. It must have the three red lights.
Step 2) Get a towel or towels and wrap it around the 360 so the fans cannot blow out any dust.
Step 3) Leave it on for 10-20 minutes with the towel wrapped around it. Personally I turn it on for 15 minutes.
Step 4) Take the towels off it and turn it off. It is not mandatory but you can leave it to cool down for 10 -20 minutes. After you turn it off turn it back on and it should work.
Miscullaneous: I give you my word that this trick works. I try this all the time on my 360 and it saves me $149.90 for repairs. If you do not trust my word just go to youtube or basically any videowebsite and type in Xbox 360 Towel Trick. You will see many people doing it and their end result.

Interesting... Of course you won't see me ever attempting this. But I guess it is helpful to know.

Yeh works fine friends have done it and one who really knows his stuff says its to do with re-attaching the solder that has lost its connection and i swear to god he used 10 towels and set it alight, yes, on fire for 5 seconds.
Do not try that just use the towel.:)
Good to see someone do a proper write up though.

Lol don't say that dude. I thought my 360 would never get the three red lights but I did.

This is not a permanent fix. So what I am saying is that it will get the 3 red lights again and he can use the trick again to fix it.

Why would he do that? Does he realize how hot it is with one towel wrapped around it?Imagine 10X hotter.

i have a semi-dumb question then...
i got the one red light error, and the failure is something related to the system because removing the hard drive did not fix the problem either.
so, will the towel trick work for this? (i am guessing no, because it is caused by a different error)

Lol, i have no idea, hes one of those people that if you say make it hot, he sets it on fire.
And i cant be sure Shaaady but im thinking it wouldn't work neither.

I would just rather send my xbox in to get a new one in about 5 business days :) Already done it once and it doesnt cost a CENT! so why take the chance of fucking up everyones favorite machine?
mine just broke and i sent it in for repairs. it was FREE cuz of the one-year warranty. but i guess if it breaks again and its out of warranty i'll try it

Because unlike you I have to pay tons of money. And it is not fucking it up unless you never had the 3 lights in the first place.

Yes it will work. I did this since May and as you can see it is still working. Anytime I see the 360 has 3 red lights just do the trick.

My 360 must have red-lighted 30 times before the disc drive finally stopped working in February. I never used any trick other than to turn it off and then back on. It's first red-light was caused by the nyko intercooler melting inside of it. The system itself still works fine, although ever since those first red-lights it runs slower.
