Duh...

I took my Xbox to the future mother-in-laws once...and plugged it into her standard def TV. Never..EVER..again will I treat my Xbox that way.

To those out there still running on a standard def TV...get a second job to get the HDTV. All your pain will be worth it.

I love them so much I bought two. One in the living room for my Xbox. One upstairs for the Wii. Big sum-bitches. :woop:

When I got my first 360 I was still running a standard non hd tv. Graphics were good IMO. Then I picked up a hd screen. WOW difference is incredible. Makes the non hd graphics look like a PS2.

I have since bought 2 further HD screens as the difference is that dramatic.

All I'd say to anyone that is still running a non HD set is that as soon as funds allow buy a hd set.

The first week I had a 360 I took it to mymates house as he had a 360 and a new HD TV, so we played on both machines side by side one on HD and one on standard. The difference was amazing.

Only a couple of months before I can afford to buy my own quality TV - can't wait.

Though I would also say that I've been more than happy with my 360 for a year on standard TV and if you can't afford HD don't break the bank.

i agree with every one that has replied i just got my HD TV a couple of weeks ago and the difference was amazing,

One question i want to ask though is it better to connect via VGA or Component??

I'm running an exquisite Samsung 42" DLP, very cheap now a days. I got mine in January for $1800, not even close to that now.

Motivate yourselves and take advantage.

I have mine plugged into my 50" RCA HD, and plug into my 22" widescreen computer monitor when it's not plugged into that. I ran standard def once, and hated myself for it, so now it's strictly HD. Looks incredible.

I started of playing my 360 on a standard 32" widescreen tv and i thought it was great. But now i have a 42" LCD HD TV damn what a difference i would never plug my 360 into a standard tv again no way. ;)

VGA. You used to have problems with colour wash using VGA but that's sorted with the Spring update.

Other notes (based solely on my personal experience):-

1080p > 720p > 1080i
HDMI > DVI > VGA > Comp
Optical > RCA

Why would you buy a HDTV for a friking Wii? Thats almost too funny

I suppose it's not fully for the Wii. My HD cable is using the HDMI port on that one.

But I do put out 480p to it from the Wii. My Wii is about 20 times clearer it seems on that HDTV than the 42" standard def I had in there. SO what is that almost too funny?

STANDARD cable looks better on an HDTV. ANYTHING looks better on an HDTV. So why would putting anything on a HDTV be funny?

Usaully in my bedroom an a 19" Samsung LCD using VGA. Leave another set off wires downstairs on 42" HD where I'll put a 360 once it gets fixed. Just swap it around up and down now.

Got to admit though... When I first got my 360 I was on a 14" Panasonic brick basically. Ahhh... the good old days!

HDMI is exactly the same as HD ie High definition!

HDMI does give a slightly improved signal over components but other than that it's the same.

I only have a standard 360 so use components on that but I use a HDMI connection on my PS3. I used components on the PS3 at first but after takeing some advice I bought a HDMI lead and did notice a difference but it's still HD.

Aye, he must've meant Comp or VGA.

Trivia bore of the day: Digital connections such as DVI & HDMI can suffer from digital cliff syndrome if the cables are long lengths of crap quality stuff. If you notice sparkly artifacts, cough up the quids for better cables. Sponsored by x360a HD Cabling Co. 07 ®

I sure do and I'll never go back to a SDTV! I plan to buy a bigger, better, and newer HDTV when I move out. I have a 27" flat panel LCD Westinghouse HDTV, but it's good enough to accommodate the size of my room for now. I am looking into a Samsung 1080p with HDMI input. My Westinghouse is a "natural" 720p ratio with no HDMI input, but I need an upgrade sooner or later.

I do have an HDTV, its a 27" Toshiba.

I guess you can debate what looks better all day long, but from my own personal experience here is what I see:

- HDMI looks way better than component.

- 1080p and 720p are almost completely similar looking until around 50".

- As far as the 360 is concerned component looks better than VGA, its pretty much the same though.

Yes, definitely. I have two systems hooked up, 1 on an HDTV w/1080i and another on a standard TV set. Very noticable difference, especially when compared side by side with the same game.

I started with a standard def 32" and used it for my 360 for about 6 months until I upgraded to a 32" Westinghouse LCD.

And I was blown away by the difference. Playing Gears of War on a high def set for the first time was jaw-dropping. Plus I can use my TV as my computer monitor too, so it was like upgrading two different things at once.

For anyone looking to upgrade, but you just can't find the funds, I highly reccomend getting a finance plan from Best Buy. I'm 20 so my credit isn't that great yet (690 :(), and I got $500 in financing. I only dropped another $400 in cash to get my TV, plus a 4-year warranty that will replace my TV if anything ever happens. The payments were only $10 a month, but I paid it off awhile ago.

I'd also reccomend the Westinghouse tvs for anyone with a low budget, or anyone who just doesn't want to drop $2k+ on a TV. For $800, this TV kicks some serious ass.

Originally I purchased a 32" HDTV Westinghouse LCD. Loved it, and it was only for the 360. Then when I moved I decided I needed bigger. So I went with a 50" SXRD Sony w/1080p tho i'm not utilizing that yet.

I work in Home Theater in best buy so I'm around these things all day, and I just needed to induldge myself in one that was better.

when I first got my 360 i was playing on a 26" tv and now im Poppin' off heads in gears on my 56" HDTV and when u add in surround sound.... WOW! I was playing F.E.A.R and being scared when i hit a can on the floor in the game and everything looks so realistic now. I go over my friends house who has a regular tv and i cant imagine how i played without my HDTV, It is just so different and so amazing. So u go out there right now get urself a credit card, go to circut city have them find u a good deal on the internet so they can lower the price for u like i did on a nice Samsung 56" (What i have) and put urself in 1k of credit card debt!!!!!! lol. but really its great..... i'll stop rambling on now.

I don't know maybe he uhmm.. uses it for awesome clarity? Ever thought that? Go play Diablo or something on a tube monitor. Switch over to an LCD widescreen monitor and throw it into 1280x720. Crappy game but I bet you a hundred bucks it'll look 100x better then what it did before.

anyone that isn't using HD is really doing themselves an injustice. You really need to see a 360 running on an HDTV and then you will never want to look as SD again.

It really does open your eyes to how good it can look. I have a 23" Samsung set for my games room, and an LG 42" set for my front room. Both setup via component and both look stunning !

I have an after market component cable now that doesn't have a switch (have a core edition now), but when I had my old premium edition it did it also even when set to digital on the cable. And the 360 is set to 1080i.

i picked up my hdtv in march of 2007...it's a 40" samsung lcd (720p) and i love it...it is unbelievable how much better the games look in hd...i was one of those skeptics that thought that having an hdtv didn't matter...of course, i was wrong...for people who don't have one and consider themselves hardcore into video games, you owe it to yourself to experience hd gaming...and for someone who (like me) is as cheap as they come, there is really no excuse to not get one...now-a-days, they are available in all sizes and price ranges...hell, if you want an easy way of doing it, if you have a decent job just go to best buy and apply for a card then take advatage of thier 12+ months no interest finiancing and make easy payments...but, IMO, go w/either lcd or plasma...lay off the dlp.

Whenever my sis goes to the parents house with her kids, my mom and sis always play GH. They love it.
I also have a white dualshock 3 for the ps3, but it must be on the couch or table.

so from left to right...rock band stuff, a ton of movies categoriezed alphabetically by slim case color, some ps2 and 360 games, a sony 40" xbr3, my 360 and some more games, my dvr cable box, some blu-ray movies, my onkyo 7.1 surround sound reciever (don't have the speakers yet...maybe after the wife and i pay our taxes and see if i have any $$$ left over), my ps3 and games and my 17" widescreen dell laptop....which i hook up to my tv via vga sometimes to watch video i downloaded or surf the web on the big screen to everyone can see. i also get pixel for pixel 1920x1080 resolution from laptop to tv...nice.

needless to say, this is where i spend most of my time.

my parents got a 56 inch LCD HDTV in the living room. thats where i play my xbox on and it looks amazing. but according to this post by highpass

1080p > 720p > 1080i
HDMI > DVI > VGA > Comp
Optical > RCA

it seems that 1080p is better than 1080i. mine is 1080i and i was wondering how to change it into 1080p. do i need a special cable?

no way to get 1080p without buying a new tv

components can do up to 1080p, but you're tv has to be able to accept 1080p signal through the component inputs.

my sony xbr3 can only do 1080i through components, so that is what my 360 is at. i use hdmi for my ps3 to get 1080p

"Component video is capable of carrying signals such as 480i (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/480i), 480p (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/480p), 576i (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/576i), 576p (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/576p), 720p (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/720p), 1080i (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1080i) and 1080p (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1080p), although most TVs do not support 1080p through component video."
