Possible Glitch with 'First Contact'

So this is pretty much to stupidest achievement ever: pet your animal for the first time. How do you get it? I assumed you would get it when you first adopt your pet and you start petting it but it didn't unlock.

Since the bonding circle is pre-adoption, it does not count the first time you pet the cubs because it isn't "yours" yet.
