Well, lets start with the formalities. Thanks to King for negotiating the prize and to Jonny for the inspiration for the idea of this.

Competition Details:
1. What do you have to do? Simple, tell us what you think is a good idea for a site award.
2. The site award must reward community members for doing something that will benefit the community and be not related in any way shape or form to gaming.
3. The award should have... a.) A name, b.) An image idea, c.) Grounds for awarding the award to a site member.
4. Remember, the more detail the better.
5. One entrance per member.

Closing Date:
30th May 2007 - Time 20:00 GMT - 15:00 EST

Prize:
1. A copy of Crackdown with Halo 3 BETA (you might get a few days :p)
2. The possible creation of your idea being turned in to a site award  That is the true prize here ;)

Good luck :D

I boycott this award. This is so not cool, I should at least get a Tootsie Roll Pop sent to my address for the inspiration since we aren't going to use the one I submitted earlier. Hell, maybe we should still use it, but still have this competetion in place.

I may come around and try to come up with something, but untill then I'll be crying due to the screw job so gracefully applied to my internet ego...

So maybe this ones gonna sound kina lame, but i think it would be kinda cool, and give people recoginition as a good person to talk to.

so heres my shot:

name: Site Love

desciption: just a lame heart, or maybe an angel halo

reason for receiving: basically, it would be a way for mods to recognize someone on the site who has puts lots of effort into helping others (newbies, people with gaming questions). mods would give it to someone once they had a really good recognition of how a certain member acts on the site. it would require posting alot in ways that mods either gave a "good job" for the response they gave or that mods have seen that person posting alot to help keep the site running smooth (by people who are not mods). i think it would be kinda cool because if you saw that a person with Site Love had been helping alot of people ina certain game's forum, it would show that they would be a good person to PM with a question about that game (or other site feature).

i know this may sound kinda like it makes them mods, but its not meant to replace any of the mods in any way/shape/form. it would be a way to alleviate some of the work you guys have to do when it comes to more petty, game-related stuff around here. the award description could even have part of the description saying that the people with it are good people to talk to.

so, yeah. my input, my advice. kinda just wanted to enter a competition, and had never, but i like my idea. hope someone else does too.

thanx

one thing you did not touch in the rules is how it'll be decided. will it be a open vote for all members or just for mod and above? or will only admin get a say in this or does webb get full power to decide alone?

Name: internet ego crusher

Description: could easily be a pic of jonnyVT with a big boot above him coming crashing down

Reason for recieving: anybody who can effectively crush jon's internet ego and send him off crying WITHOUT being crass or vulger. you can't get it for insulting him but if you could build up his hopes in something and then drop the "got'cha" bomb on him should earn it.

J/P jon, but i couldn't help myself :):p;)

P.S.
i like advengers idea

It will be an admin thing more than likely because we'll have to implement it in the end. But of course, the mods reception to an idea could sway us, as could the members, unless it's going to be an unfeasable (I think I just made up a new word :p) pain.

no thats a word alright, i like to use it in real life. makes ppl stop and blink a lil. but you did invent a new way to spell it. honestly i couldn't do any better so i went to dictionary.com and found it

unfeasible
adjectivenot capable of being carried out or put into practice; "refloating the sunken ship proved impracticable because of its fragility"; "a suggested reform that was unfeasible in the prevailing circumstances" [syn: impracticable (http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/impracticable)]

another one i like to use is fuseetious (thats how i saw it spelt in my mind) but after searching dictionary.com i found out i wasn't even close

fa·ce·tious http://cache.lexico.com/g/d/premium.gif http://cache.lexico.com/dictionary/graphics/luna/thinsp.pnghttp://cache.lexico.com/g/d/speaker.gif (https://secure.reference.com/premium/login.html?rd=2&u=http%3A%2F%2Fdictionary.reference.com%2Fbrowse%2 Ffacetious) /fəˈsihttp://cache.lexico.com/dictionary/graphics/luna/thinsp.pngʃəs/ Pronunciation Key - Show Spelled Pronunciation[fuh-see-shuhhttp://cache.lexico.com/dictionary/graphics/luna/thinsp.pngs] Pronunciation Key - Show IPA Pronunciation –adjective 1.not meant to be taken seriously or literally: a facetious remark. 2.amusing; humorous. 3.lacking serious intent; concerned with something nonessential, amusing, or frivolous: a facetious person.

Award: Fellowship of the Ring

Req: Participated in 2 or more fellowship events.

Image: Golem, or the ring with x360a inscribed on it. Heck, wonder twins would do.

Description: I´ve constantly tried to keep organizing fellowships, some successful, some not so much. I did have a thing going this January and February. Just ask Gunstar, Perpetual, Import, NoDogg, Buttcheeks, Wreckon, Daking, or more if they every stopped into the nightshift over the winter months.

What this is is a bi-weekly event organized for 1-5 games with lobby systems and/or player matches. It will run opposite SOTF so there is always something going on. If the idea grows, we could do XBLA Wednesdays, Monday Night Dance Party, and Friday night-shift. By spacing out fellowships, we could always have something to look forward on what are generally classified as off nights for a lot of people. Hell, we could even have a 20 minute podcast to summarize the weeks community events and developments on popular achievia.

What i´m getting at is the ultimate way to get a member active in a gaming site, which is ironically not by submitting achievements, but by gaming with peers and having a great time.

Woops, didn´t realize it was for improving the site. I´ll keep that one up there.

Award: Organized a Boosting Party

Idea for image: Party hats and confetti.

Req: Organize an online multiplayer boosting party

Ex: Have you not participated in a massive boosting attempt to get that ever elusive achievement, and helped 9 other people too? When was the last time you organized such a massive feat, ran it successfully, and cracked the champaign?

If you´ve ever organized an event like this, for Saints row, Burnout, Lost Planet, GRAW 2, you know that you´re boostieś are always happy in the end and everyone comes out satisfied, especially the organizer. This is extremely similar to the NBA Live party, except on a much more doable, smaller scale.

Those members that step above and beyond and are validated by staff are truly deserving of an award.

Love,
Manatee

Name: FAQ Submitter

Req: Submit 20 (or have it in levels, 20, 30, 40, 50) helpful/interesting FAQ's in the FAQ threads. Helpful and interesting including stuff like 'how to unlock this' or 'how do you perform this special move'! The colour of the award could change depending on how many FAQ's you have submitted. A list of who has submitted a FAQ could be kept by a FAQ Director/s (much like the 1000/200 club directors).

I thought of this because the FAQ threads are a great idea but need to get kicked off. An award could be some insperation to submit questions in the threads!:)

And i know you said one entry so scrap one of these and use the better one please!

Ok. My entrace is more of a set of Awards than just one by itself.

I came up with multiple ways that these awards could work. One could be for Individual games, such as:

Individual Game Gurus:

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/achievements/195/ico.jpg http://img264.imageshack.us/img264/4245/gh2iconcw7.jpg Guitar Hero 2 Guru (Icons used would just be the game icon)

The individual games Guru Awards would be more work than the others that will be explained later, but would be more clear, and easier to judge who would recieve it. For example: K-Dog would probably recieve this award, for answering many questions, and writing many tips and tutorials concerning Guitar Hero 2. (Shameless plug: I answered some too!) These awards would encourage members to post useful and helpful facts regarding games, and would (hopefully) minimize the same questions being asked over and over. Let's say someone saw me with the Guitar Hero 2 Guru Award icon under my name. They would then know exactly who to PM about a certain issue, or that when I say something about the game, it is (most likely) true, and not somebody who just joined the site with no experience.

OR

The other way of working these awards, which would be less work, but harder to decide who would recieve them:

Categorized Gurus:

http://img483.imageshack.us/img483/3885/mediaigurusa3.jpg http://img129.imageshack.us/img129/3579/mediaiconkr9.jpg Media Guru
This award would be awarded to someone like Flash. Basically someone who frequents the Media Forum, knows their stuff, and helps out a lot. Again, this would make it easier to find someone who knows a lot about what you need, and is a prime target to PM about a quick question regarding Media.

http://img527.imageshack.us/img527/4197/hardwaregurufj1.jpg http://img527.imageshack.us/img527/764/hardwareguruiconit6.jpg Hardware Guru
Again, like the Media Guru award, but would be for people who (most likely) frequent the XBox 360 General forums, and know about hardware issues, or things such as peripherals, HDTV Issues, that sort of thing. Yet again, another target for firing PM's at, and getting quick and precise information.

http://img523.imageshack.us/img523/9320/racingguruot8.jpg http://img253.imageshack.us/img253/1851/racingiconoc5.jpg Racing Guru
This is basically like the easier way to do the Individual games, but less precise. If doing an award for each game is too much work (I think it would be) than you can do these. An award for each category; racing, shooters, RPGs, Sports. Given to people who spend of thier time in these forums, and knows a lot about these sorts of games. Like I said previously, this would be less precise than an individual game, seeing as how you would not necessarily know every racing/sports/etc game.

If you like this idea, I can make the rest of the icons, or you can totally redo them if you do not like mine. Whichever you choose is fine. I just always thought that a sort of badge representing what a member knows the most about, and has the most experience with was a must. I would definitely not be a good candidate to ask about Madden help, but Media or Guitar Hero on the other hand, I could probably help somebody out with. These awards would solve the issue, simply click the award, see who has it that is online, and fire them a PM. Issue solved.

That was a pretty long post and I'm sure there are a few run-on sentences and things like that, but it seems fairly readable to me. Thanks for the chance to make an award.

Name: Game Review Award

The Image: The winner will receive subscriptions to Game Informer and to EGM magazines. They will also win a spot on the Review Team on x360a.com. The last prize the winner will receive is one of the newest games so that he or she can play it and review the game for us as the top game reviewer of the site!

How To Win: You must have at least ten(10) game reviews submitted to one of the sites moderators. The game reviews will be reviewed among the moderators and they will vote for the most thought out and intriguing ones. The moderators will then pick the top five reviewers and then make a thread with one review from the 5 finalists( a poll will be made). The winner must have a minimum post amount of 50(no spam) and they have to be registered on the site for 3 months. All are allowed to compete except those exemplified by the rules stated before.

^^This competition sounds like it has potential. I hope i win because my friend is going to ill me if I don't give him his Crackdown back lol:woop:

I like avengers idea and jonnys original sticky one. I was going to pos tone but read on and ac had posted it i was going tosay for participating in so many tournaments beause 1000 online NBA has its own award.

Alos whoever said reffer 5 people, this can elp towards the word of mouth award so you probably might not win, just saying incase you want to change it and enter again.

Ok, now for my entry(s)

I do have 2 but i dont mind not winning as i already have crackdown so..

Entry 1:

Award Name: Give Away.

Award Pciture: Picture of a Present, or poosibly a prize being given away.

How To Receive: All you have to do is start a contest giving away a xbox360 related prize to our community. For example start a contest in he contest arena where a prize is rewarded from the person that started the contest to the person who wins, like the E -Trons for designing him a background.

Entry 2:

Award Name: Cleared That Up.

Award Picture: A pad lock, possible with a smiley face on it.

How To Recieve: When someone starts a thread with just a question about something, maybe a specific game question, you have to fully answer there question in detail maybe with even a link or guide as an answer. Basically you have to totally clear up everything that the thread started was asking. This could be done in stages like the submission awards. E.g 1 - Bronze Pad Lock 3 - Silver Pad Lock 5+ - Gold Pad Lock.

I hate this kinda competition, I mean it sounds so easy. Then you go off for a think and every idea you come up with either already exists or some other bright spark steals it lol I mean posts it first.

Ok here goes:

Award Loyal member

Icon Gold watch (much like the length of service award from work)
Silver watch
Nickel/stainless watch

Earnt by Being a member of the site for a certain length of time, participating in events on a regular basis whether they win or lose including boosting sessions. Actively post on the forums but not as a post whore and not just sticking to certain fave threads ie shareing themselves around the entire site. Generally assist others and bring in new members to the site.

Idea 2

Award Active member (various levels dependant on membership length etc)

Icon athlete or other active type logo crossed with a 1,2,3,4 or 5 dependant on the level they achieved.

Earnt by participating in regular events, frequenting the forums on a daily basis and helping out where ever possible. Jumping to the aid of newbs or recent members, generally being helpfull on the boards rather than just 'use the search button' (hey we all need guidance at first rather than a blunt phrase) offering to deputise for a mod in their absence or at least monitoring the forums and flagging up any abuse etc rather than leaving it to others to deal with. helping with boosting sessions even if you already have the achievements, just generally being on hand and helpfull.

That's almost the point... This stuff is learnt at school, years ago for most, and statistically it's likely to be your first language. Shouldn't it be ought to come naturally:), and i was going to write something about grammer and spelling however i am a sinner myself but not because of my spelling or grammer but a stupid keyboard with the worlds worst space bar. However it came with some funky lights, so i thought it would not be fair to have this award.

In my eyes i would have to put my word in so here goes:

1: What about giving a member a special award for helping/setting up boosting sessions say for argument sake 20x and has done a remarkable job?

2: What about giving a member a special awrd for contributing to the site every month not just by subscribing but by donating also, as that way you would be showing the members that every little help is appreciated?

3: What if you was to give a member a special award for posting like say 30 guides/achs for games?

4: What if you gave \a special award for loyal member who post day after day and help people out to there hearts content?

That's all i can think of at present but will edit post when i think of more.

...and i was going to write something about grammer...

;)

Needless to say you're perfectly right in thinking such an award isn't fair, I hadn't taken into account things like LED-ridden keyboards, illnesses and simpler still; people whose primary language isn't English. Fair shout, I take it back. On with the competition!

Thanks for all the suggestions so far.

SOme thing sto bear in mind:

All awards have to be given out manually. Therefore if hundreds of people will get it, it probably wont happen. Not only that, but if lots qualify for it is it really award worthy.

Length of time/Location ones wont work, due to the number of members we have.

Suggestions for guides - we already have an award for these ;)

Just some friendly pointers, some people may want to revise some parts :p

Req: Start X amount of threads. I do not know if there would be increments of just one base number. It could be done like the post count but with, say, 100 threads, 500, and 1,000. But it could also just be one award, start 573 threads or whatever is chosen. IMO 300-400 is a good number. This award is pretty similar to the post count awards. It seemed like a better idea before I started typing, but hey, at least I tried.

Adam Miller

Not bad but we wuldn't want people starting threads all the time just for an award, also this could be easily gotten by starting threads for achievement disccusion and so on in all new game sections.

Also it is my birthday tomorow and i dont want to sway anyone's decision here but..you know.... it would really make my day.:p

P.S Could we remove the gamerchick award an possibly add Gender: Male/ Female/ Both to the left hand panel?

I can see what your saying about starting threads Adam. But people already say random un-helpful things to get to 100 posts. If it is a very large number of threads started to get the award I don't think there will be much spam. I mean who is going to be able to slip 300 spamming threads past everyone on the site? Also I never really though about all those people who do all the work of putting up stickied threads and what not for every game. Maybe they would have to be excluded from this one? Every time I type a word a feel like I'm stretching my poor idea farther and farther until I currently I feel as if my odds of winning are some where around 0.0034%. But um... I guess I still have a chance, or something.

Adam bearing in mind you actually live in London, I would of assumed that you would point out, that 'fiddle sticks' is actually more Mary Poppins than 'actual everyday' slang ;) And yes before you start I do know the words/phrase and how they are used however they are not quite, in the same catergory as 'wankers'

I'd hate to imagine poor Chuck, out of his depth in Bermondsey, confronted by a gang with only 'fiddle sticks' in his slang vocabulary.

Oh before I forget. Not many people comment quite so much on others grammar, spelling and punctuation whilst useing i in lieu of I, gotto instead of got to and various other typo's.

Noone displays a perfect use of the English language, on all occasions but then again, not everyone faults others at every given opportunity!

Right, well after many days locked away thinking about this long and hard, and not leaving it cos all the Admins were out drinking, we have finally come up with a decision on the winner....

First of all would like to thank every for all their ideas, we will keep them around incase we decide to implement any more ;)

Predator x360a and ac2565 were the two entries that we picked from the bunch, and after lots of discussion on which would work best, we decided that the winner is.....

ac2565.

Congratulations fella. We will get onto creating the Awards Pic at some point, so keep your eyes peeled on the Awards list over the next few weeks ;).

PS- Can you PM Webby your details for the prize :)

That should be an award. Prove your girlfriend pays VAT for her clothes.

Well it's a work night out which is starting in about an hour ;o) well as soon as my cover arrives.

Anyway I thought for one night I just would'nt 'overlook' shorter women, obviously it's off putting when you can see dandruff etc on top of their head but hey lets give them a try for the night.

Suit has'nt arrived so I'll either rely on luck or just walk around on my knees so as not to intimidate them.

And yes you did tell me about the official NBA Live07 event, unfortunatley I had just got like 30 games and I thought one more may be a tad to greedy. But yeah I accept my fault for not doing it then :(

PMSL well buddy hopefully soon enough more new members to the site will require the achievement, or you could really beg and plead with minty to make the next attempt a x360a effort and roll it through the site,

if i can get the game for the specified date i will do my best so as to help you guys out :)

The attempt wont be x360a, and thats 100% definate. The last attempt had hours of work put in by all forum staff and a lot of members, and we had a lot of help. And with 2 successful 1000 people attempts already, I personally dont see it ever being done again.
