As the title says... Anyone have Windows Vista? If so, post your issues, comments, concerns, praises, whatever...
I was thinking about upgrading my XP pro to vista ultimate and was wondering what sort of issues I'm going to be looking at.
Thanks ahead of time for all the comments.

Had problems getting a lot of my existing programs to work with Vista but after that I have had no issues really.
Just seems like a flashier version of XP to me...

Only reason I did, as I already stated, is too get it to the top of the list and get it more attention (which it definatly accomplished as shortly afterwards I received 3 posts), as I planned on putting Vista on later today, with the results of this pull + comments.
And to the comments, thanks for the info.
Mainly I was just wondering what sort of issues it had before I installed it. If it was really a hassle or not. My comp is built for gaming, but since all of my gaming needs have been taken care of with the 360, I figured this upgrade wont really effect me as my comp is now a workstation anyways.

That IS BUMPING
Definition of Bumping: senseless posting in a thread simply to move the thread to the top of the forum thread list. done by small children and people with no brain or patience.
As far as Vista goes, it is a complete ripoff of Mac OSX. i am an avid mac user, even though it sucks for games, i use my computer mainly for music, movies, pictures and internet trolling. OSX had "widgets" and then vista comes out with the exact same concept called "gadgets",, i mean seriously..WTF?

My recommendation would be to set up a dual boot machine ... at least until the kinks are worked out(drivers, program compatibilities, DRM)

So true. I don't really notice anything other then it's attempts to look like a MAC OS. The flashy GUI and that's about it. I don't think it's that great. I don't see why anyone would "love it." It's not different at all. It has it's issues but it's fine. Do I think it's worth it? Not at the moment. I'll stick to XP. My cousins computer (which im using right now) has Vista. I'll probably wait until I build/buy a new computer.

I work in the computer industry.
I've installed Vista on two machines and I've purchased 4 laptops with it pre-installed for training purposes.
I love it. It's a lot of the stuff under the hood that makes me love it. Especially from a management perspective.
UAC is one of the greatest things ever. I've never had a single one of those machines crash on me yet. I love the new event viewer. I love the new network center. I could go on and on.
And to Stinkyf1re....how can you fault them for taking Widgets? Jesus...every OS has ripped something off of others. Are you going to fault Macintosh for stealing the GUI from Xerox?
Besides...Active Desktop was the first to have really well built desktop objects that even let you connect to the internet. Widgets are a standardized (or close to) technology. So you really can't say someone stole something when there's a standardization body out there telling all OS people how to support them.
Let's just blame Mac for basing their OS off of Unix...something that wasn't theirs.

I have a personally built PC and had to upgrade video and sound which were both integrated to motherboard.
I need to re-install my burning software as it stated it was not compatible.
Other than that it is great. Good Luck.

From a non-PC-gaming, workhorse-only user's viewpoint:-
Better than XP, definitely. Better than other OSes that cost less or nothing? Hell no. 5 years' worth of development and half the decent, promised features didn't even make it to the final build. It's still incredibly vulnerable to attacks despite MS yapping about it being the most secure OS ever. Most secure Windows? Yup no doubt - no chance in hell it's the most secure out of the lot, though.
I'm still amazed at the amount of horsepower you need to run it at full pelt. OS X as an example runs with all the bells and whistles even on 5-8 year old hardware/spec, and is still more appealing to the eye. This is much to do with underlying technologies such as Quartz & Core Image, I must admit. Sidenote; black GUI = bad for focus.
Another thing... Flip 3D. What bloody use is this when you have 30 windows open? Exposè vs Flip = no competition. A very promising feature, just needs a rethink imo.
Still no decent dedicated system-level audio technologies ala Audio Unit as far as i know, although DX is fine for gamers and third party VST will suffice, but the point remains.
DX10 however is a beast, and the one sensible reason to choose Windows over alternatives in the future (unless you need AutoCad, or 3DS, that is).
About this theft business; good ideas are always stolen, and should always be welcomed. If this wasn't the case, Windows would still be using different cuts in different apps if it wasn't for Apple standardising +C,+V,+X etc commands across all applications, let alone the trashcan, Xerox's GUI, the reason dialogs use "OK" and not "Do it", etc etc.
BTW Code, OS 9 had "widgets" back in 1984, 14 years before Win98/Active Desktop ;)
To conclude my ramblings; If you play games, Vista for the win. Otherwise, there's little enticing you at the moment.
/holy shit, apologies for the soapbox.
