Hey everyone, I just finished a short video of me doing some tricks on my bike. Some people from the RR will know that this has been my latest obsession. For those of you who dont know, I have been very into riding lately. I ride a fixed gear bike (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fixed_gear), which generally isnt used very often for tricks. Anyway, check it out and you will have my appreciation.

Not bad, especially considering what your riding lol. My friend just started getting into this sorta stuff a few months ago he can hold a wheelie for about 60 - 70 yards now.

That video was way better than your last one.

I'm still waiting on a traffic ride though.

Haha, the last one is more entertaining when you know how difficult it is to do that. It's kind of one of those things really only appreciated by people who have tried to do it themselves.

Here's the last one for those of you who didn't see it.

Yeeerp anything that's remotely extreme is in my book good. I'm currently making a skateboard sponser vid so I'll be able to post it up in a few months or so when it's ready.

Obviously you like to do tricks on bikes.... now its time to get yourself a real trick bike. Either a BMX or a mountain bike... much easier to wheelie, jump, etc.

Getting ready to post the exact same thing Pin. I thought that was the best part too. I really can't believe you're riding that kind of bike though, that's kinda strange, but very unique.

Side note. I thought it was you Franco that lived in Winterpark attending Full Sail, maybe I've got you confused with someone else, but your location says NYC. Am I wrong, or something...?

Thanks guys, I appreciate it. As far as my choice in bike. I ride a track bike because I love the geometry, the look, the feel, and I just feel uncomfortable on any other type of bike. As far as riding fixed, it's something I didn't know much about a few months ago, but have grown to really love. I still dont feel like some people understand exactly what that means.

On a fixed gear bike you cannot stop pedaling. Like most other bikes you can't coast, you can't pedal backwards. If the bike is moving, that means your feet are moving. It definitely makes certain things a little/lot more difficult. Because of this however, a brake is not necessarily needed. It is possible to stop a bike like by locking your feet in place and essentially stopping the movement of the rear tire. This can be difficult when you consider the momentum of the bike. When you do this it causes the rear tire to skid which slows you down. I ride without a brake, not only because its fun but because you really start to become a much better rider. This is essentially what Im doing a lot of in the video I made. Whenever my feet stop moving, its not just because I stopped pedaling but because I locked my rear tire and caused it to skid. Hopefully that gives you more of an idea of what it takes to do these things.

I dont ride this kind of bike to do tricks. It just so happens that its possible to do some really fun things with this kind of bike. The choice however is made more so because of the overall feel, not so much because of the tricks. Hopefully this explains some of it, and possibly gives some of you who felt it was lame, a little more appreciation of what Im doing.

I am still learning so much, and I know Im nowhere near as good as other people. I only did this to have fun, and really to show my friends and family what Ive been up to.

Here are some much higher quality videos with much more talented people. I have pulled a lot of "inspiration" from these videos and actually learned how to do everything I do from watching them as well.

Dont worry about the negative comments, this is due to the "you tube generation" who arnt satisfied unless someone is getting crippled!

I dont know how I missed your post. I like the bike. I suck at riding bikes like that sooo bad, haha. What do disk brakes feel like compared to normal brakes?

I have disk brakes and they are SHARP! you need to be gentle..

xJoex
05-28-2007, 06:10 PM
Yeah my disks are Mechanic, but are very sharp. Compared to v-brakes, disks look better and give you more control over your speed. Also when its wet and muddy disks don't suffer as much as normal brakes.

That was kinda lame :(

Wow, didn't you ever learn this valuable lesson from your mother? "If you don't have anything nice to say, then keep your fuckin trap shut."

I liked your videos Franco, and I know I couldn't ever do that stuff. At least not without a LOT of practice!

nah, its and old mountain bike i really dont know the model or anything, but i really find it hard to keep the balance while the bike its motionless, thats why i think that the things that you made on the videos look cool.

I used to be a pretty serious athlete. Sky Diving, swimming, hockey, rugby, diving, etc. I can't do one thing you did on those videos. So all the people who are being negative, put up or.......you know the drill. Congrats on being gifted Franco, and how is that working out for ya?

That's pretty damn cool that, never seen anything like it... quite literally.

Though I have seen a guy in the town when I live with a mountainbike/bmx hybrid which was kinda odd.

But yeah tricks on a racer, thats hella cool. Trend setting anyone? :P

Keep it up.
