Joshua Mauldin of Arkansas remains in the Galveston County Jail on a charge of injury to a child causing serious bodily harm.

Mauldin arrived at a hotel in Galveston, Texas last week, along with the baby, his wife and mother.

He called 9-1-1 last Thursday saying that his baby had been burned in the hotel room when he tripped carrying a pot of hot water for coffee.

Investigators concluded the child's injuries were not consistent with a water burn.

They believe Mauldin placed the child in a microwave for ten to 20 seconds.

She suffered third-degree burns to the left side of her face and left hand.

The charge against Mauldin carries a prison term of five-to-99 years, along with a ten-thousand dollar fine.

The child is in critical but stable condition.

I'm completely shocked. Having a child of my own and now fully understanding the love a parent has for a child I could never harm my son. I can't fathom how a father could do that to his own child. This act is above and beyond the abuse you usually see. To put a living person his kid even into the microwave is a new level of sick and a new low in humanity. He will die a very poor death and face a stiff penalty in the life to come. I feel for the kid who will probably have scars both physical and emotional. What will they tell the kid when it asks why do I have these marks on my body?

I think there should be tests you take to be able to have children. Being a parent is the greatest and most serious task one can undertake in this life. You are responsible for another life and on top of that you are also responsible for ensuring that the little person grows up to be a healthy well adjusted member of society. Because of the serious nature of parenthood I think one should have to qualify for it. This only illustrates why some people should not be put in charge of another person.

it goes way beyond that dude, microwaves cook from the inside out....... the internal damage he suffered is gonna make his life very challenging. anyone wanna venture to guess how many of his organs will need to be transplanted before he reaches my age? (i'm 30) it's beyond sick. it would be my pleasure to bound this asshole with barb-wire, tye him to the back end of my cadillac and just drive, dragging his retarded bitch ass until he dies a slow and painful death.
