About the game:
"The story is set in the near future. Russia and the United States are vying for ownership of the world's fast-depleting energy resources and the US has constructed a space station in order to harness energy from the sun. Russian forces capture this space station and divert its harvested solar energy into a blast wave that destroys San Francisco, aiming to force the US into a total and unconditional surrender. In response, the US tasks its armed forces with recapturing the space station before the Russians can annihilate their next target - New York."
You play as Sam Gideon, a government agent kitted out with a futuristic battlesuit. A versatile war fighter with a huge arsenal of weaponry at his disposal, Sam also has an array of martial arts skills that he can use to take down his robot enemies. Fast, fluid and frenetic... this is gaming at its most explosive and exciting, as you storm into battle. Experience a game character like no other... Sam is the ultimate weapon, donning a futuristic battle suit of destructive firepower and superhuman speed and agility. Fight your way through the enormous, open environments of the space station. The most advanced, futuristic city in the skies becomes home to the action. (source: official site (http://www.sega.com/vanquish))
From the creator of the Resident Evil series (Shinji Makima), developped by the same guys from Bayonetta and MadWorld (Platinum Games), to bring us this awesome Sci-Fi third person action shooter, welcome to... VANQUISH! (trailers (http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/showthread.php?t=269797))
About the achievements:
This game has a total of 50 achievements and requires only one playthrough + some tactical challenges to get 1000http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.jpg, although 2 playthroughs are recommended. There are no achievements that require you to play online, all of them can be gotten offline. Of the achievements, 7 are unlocked simply by playing through the story and will net you 265http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.jpg if you play on casual or normal difficulty, or 13 achievements netting you 440http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.jpg if you play on hard difficulty. The campaign on hard difficulty will take roughly 10-15 hours depending on skill. On casual it would be 3-4 hours. About the missable achievements, there is the Living Legend achievement which requires you to do a full playthrough without dying once! I decided to put the story related achievements as missable too, because if you choose to use "mission select" while still in your playthrough, you will fail those achievements. See the warning below. The remaining achievements will require you to collect Pangloss status, perform certain acts on particular missions, kill x enemies in a specific way, upgrade weapons, complete a full campaign without dying, and lastly... complete all tactical challenges.
In the achievement guide, we'll be talking about several kinds of enemies. To know which one is which, you can find all this and other cool stuff on Sega's official Vanquish website (http://www.sega.com/vanquish). The achievement guide WILL contain spoilers!! Don't say you haven't been warned!
Based upon several reports, 49/50 achievements can be rated as medium difficult. There is only one achievement related to the tactical challenges, that will make many of you break their controller, as it seems pretty hard and frustrating to get! Good luck!
Warning:
(!) "Complete all Acts" (see Survivor) requires playing through all Acts consecutively. If you use mission select at any time in your playthrough, you will not get the achievement for completing the game even though you have literally completed all Acts and have the achievements for each Act! You won't unlock the Living Legend achievement either!
(!) The same applies to "Complete Act #". If you use mission select before having finished an entire Act, you will not get the achievement related to completing that particular Act. (thanks vithzeral for pointing this out).
(!) When you use mission select, even after having beaten the game, all your weapons will be set to standard settings without any upgrades!
Step 1.1: Beat the game on Hard difficulty
Yes, that's right! Start on hard difficulty. If you're playing the game for the story and not for the achievements, go to step 1.2! The campaign is not too hard, but can be challenging at times. As mentioned in the introduction, you can get all but one of the achievements on your first playthrough. The achievements you've missed on your playthrough can easily be gotten using the "mission select", best after beating the game.
There are several reasons why I'd suggest to do 2 playthroughs. First, it's a fast paced game, and you'll really want to keep the adrenaline flowing through your veins and enjoy the story, unlocking all the "Complete Act"-related achievements (including the tutorial). On hard difficulty, you might die a lot (I did)! Sometimes it gets easier to get through a particular boss battle because of reloading checkpoint in the mission failed menu, as you'll get to keep your weapon upgrades and ammo restock, but doing so will make you miss the living legend achievement.
Step 1.2: Second playthrough on Casual difficulty (optional) + Pangloss statues + stay alive
Start a new campaign on casual or casual auto. You will blast through the missions. You can take your time to get the remaining Pangloss statues, the ones you didn't find in the previous step. I did casual auto and clocked off at 3h30 playtime, and that is with looking for 70+ of these statues. It'll be easier to get the Act-related achievements, such as "Flyswatter" just to name one. On casual difficulty it'll take many many bullets before you go into critical damage, making it easier to get the "Living Legend" achievement. Keep in mind the "Living Legend" achievement's description, in case you still would die on this playthrough.

Step 2: Mop up
Use this step to get all the achievements you didn't unlock in the previous steps, using the "mission select" feature. Refer to the achievement's description on how and where to unlock them. You should end this step having 49/50 of the achievements bringing your gamerscore to 950/1000http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.jpg. The last achievement brings you to step 3.
Step 3: Tactical Challenges
This step is... very challenging! To get this last achievement, you need to do all 5 waves on all 6 challenges. Many challenges will be quite frustrating, especially challenge 6. I hope you'll all succeed. Good luck!
Conclusion:
Overall, this game is a medium difficult 950http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.jpg and I think many gamers will be satisfied with this gamerscore. For the lucky ones who got the 1000http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.jpg, well done!!! It will be another completed game to be very proud of! I hope the guide and road map have been useful. Thanks for using it.

Scan and acquire all weapons.
You will get this one very early in the game, even before Act 2. There are 10 weapons to be found in the game. To pick up and add a new weapon to your BLADE memory, press :rbbut: when you come across a new one. Assuming you did the tutorial, you will start with 7/10 weapons that you acquired and put in your BLADE memory. This means that you're still missing the Sniper Rifle, Lock-On Laser and the LFE Gun.
You can always access your "Armory" by pressing :start: while in the game to check which ones you have and how much upgraded they are.
1. Assault Rifle
2. Heavy Machine Gun
3. Shotgun
4. Sniper Rifle (earliest found on Act 1-3: Giant)
5. Disk Launcher
6. Rocket Launcher
7. Lock-On Laser (earliest found on Act 1-5: Trust)
8. LFE Gun (earliest found on Act 1-6: Darkness)
9. Hand Grenade
10. EMP Emitter

Level a weapon up to maximum operational capability.
Throughout the game, you'll come across green crates with "Marines" written on it. Approach one of these crates and press :xbut: to reveal the (random) weapon it contains, then press :rbbut: to pick it up. There are also grey metal drop pods where you can get weapons from. Unlike the crates, these drop pods have no random weapons. Once you find a drop pod with an Assault Rifle, that same drop pod will always have an Assault Rifle. Also, when you revive a teammate, he'll drop a random weapon as well. So do enemies on occasion.
As you'll probably remember from the tutorial, picking up a same weapon you're already carrying, will upgrade that same weapon gradually if your ammo on that weapon you're carrying is at full capacity.
Sometimes, enemies can drop an "Upgrade" item instead of a weapon. This will upgrade by a full rank (1 star) the weapon you're actually using in combat. So, before picking up this upgrade, be sure to select the weapon you wish to upgrade by selecting it using the D-pad.
Some weapons will be fully upgraded with 6 stars (grenades, rocket launcher), other weapons will be fully upgraded with 11 stars (assault rifle, heavy machine gun).
You'll know that a weapon is fully upgraded as it'll show you a symbol (eagle with three stars) below that weapon in the bottom right of your screen.
You should get this achievement way before the end of the game. Just open every crate you come across and pick up every weapon especially if you're already carrying it.
But if you're in a hurry, a quick and easy way to get this achievement, is on Act 1-3 (Giant). On the part of the level where you have to defeat KNRB-0 Argus, there are approx. 8 weapons to pick up. Pick them up, let yourself get killed, choose "checkpoint", rinse and repeat. Note that doing it this way, you will miss the Living Legend achievement. Refer to the achievement's description for more information.

Manually trigger AR Mode and destroy three enemy robots in a row.
When boosting, evading, or when exiting cover, AR Mode can be triggered manually by pushing :ltbut:. This will put you into slow motion and a timer will be activated. You have to kill three robots before the timer runs out! The AR Mode will cancel automatically when the action is complete, your AR Suit overheats, or when the :ltbut: is released.
To manually activate AR Mode:
- boosting: hold :lbbut: + :ltbut:
- evading: push :ls: + press :abut: + hold :ltbut:
- exiting cover: push :ls: + press :xbut: + hold :ltbut:
The red robots seem to be easy kills, especially on casual difficulty and/or with a fully upgraded Assault Rifle/Heavy Machine Gun. Make sure the robots stand close to eachother, this will make it so much easier. Try to go for headshots as well, it helps a lot! Once the AR Mode timer runs out of time, your ARS temperature gauge will indicate it's overheated, so go into cover for a moment of cooldown.
Alternatively solution as suggested by Solty on casual difficulty, is to use the Lock-On Laser on a group of red robots hiding behind cover when you're in AR Mode.
Another method would be throwing one or two grenades (:ybut:) at red robots grouped together, and when it hits the ground, go in AR Mode. If the grenades explode and destroys at least 3 robots, the achievement is yours. If all this fails, try again on casual auto.

Destroy 100 enemy robots with melee attacks.
You can melee attack robots by while standing or boosting, and press :bbut: when you're next them. Sam will then perform a melee attack depending on the weapon that has been selected for combat. Different weapon combo will result in different melee attack moves!
Some examples provided by Solty:
- disc launcher : no AR used, and disc is fired at the end of the melee
- shotgun : hold :bbut: for supercharged punch
- assault rifle : tap :bbut: repeatedly for flurry of punches
- HMG : press :bbut: + hold LT to activate AR mode after the kick
- all weapons : boost with :lbbut: + press :bbut: + hold :ltbut: to activate AR mode after the kick
Try melee attacks at least once with each and every weapon to see Sam's melee attack move to find the one you find most efficiently. Be careful though, as every melee attack will make your ARS temperature gauge overheat, so get some cover after a melee attack. There is only one combo which won't make your AR Suit overheat, and that is when you've set the disc launcher as your main weapon.
As soon as you've destroyed 10 robots with melee attacks, you will unlock the Going in for the Kill achievement. Do this 90 more times and you will get the A Heartbreaker and a Lifetaker one as well. The melee attacks are cummulative across all playthroughs.
If you didn't get this achievement throughout the game, then level select after you've beaten the game, and select Act 2-1 (River) on casual difficulty. You will start with a weapon crate at the very beginning. Kick it open. If it's the disc launcher, pick it up and let yourself get killed, then choose "checkpoint". That way, you can reload the last checkpoint over and over again, and have the disc launcher right from the start. Or, pick up the sniper rifle which is always there in a drop pod. I found that doing melee attacks with the sniper rifle equipped, I could kick multiple robots with a single melee attack. Anwyays, boost under the truck and perfom as many melee attacks as you can. Then, press :start: and choose "checkpoint". Rinse and repeat until you get the achievement.

Revive 20 friendly troops.
When one of your NPC teammates is severely wounded, you'll see a cross in a circle above him. Destroy three enemy robots while in damage-triggered AR Mode.
When you took a critical amount of damage, the AR Mode will be engaged automatically,
Similar to the Adrenaline Rush achievement, you have to kill 3 enemy robots before the timer runs out of time.
If all this fails, try again on casual auto.

Maintain a Boost dash to the limit of the ARS reactor without overheating.
Quite easy achievement. As soon as you gain control of Sam in Act 1-1 (Landing), you'll come into a long hallway. Hold :lbbut: to boost while you keep an eye on the ARS (Augmented Reaction Suite) temperature gauge on the bottom right of your screen. This temperature gauge will start to heat up while you're boosting. Once this gauge is almost fully red (leave a tiny bit of blue), let go the :lbbut: and the achievement should be yours. If you hold :lbbut: for too long, the AR Suit will get overheated and you will need a moment of cooldown before you can try again.
If you're still not sure how to get this, look at the video below. Look at the 00:58 mark, there will be a bit of blue left. That's where the author lets go the :lbbut: unlocking the achievement as you can see.

Some enemy robots will be firing missilies or throwing timed grenades at you, especially the KNRB-0 Argus (first encounter in Act 1-3: Giant) loves to treat you with a massive amount of these. As soon as you see missiles fired at you, go into manually AR Mode to slow down your surroundings, then aim for the missiles and shoot them out of the sky. The Romanov is one of the bigger robots you'll come across in the game, is grey-coloured, has some nasty weapons, and a red weak spot on the back. The Romanov appears for the first time in Act 1-3 (Giant). You'll find Romanovs in three forms: rocket, drill and flame types.
Before taking care of the Romanov, focus on the regular red robots and take them out first. Once taken care of the regular ones, destroy a Romanov's leg and arm to start with. Going into AR Mode will make it easier to focus on particular body parts. Once he's just a pile of scrap metal crawling on the floor, shoot him a couple of times to deplete his health bar. Once he's about to be destroyed, walk up to him and press :bbut: to finish the job, giving you the achievement for it. If it didn't work by just disabling one leg/arm, try to get them both out of service, especially on harder difficulties as destroying all legs and arms will destroy the Romanov on casual difficulty.

Destroy two Romanovs in a row using only melee attacks.
The most important word in the achievement's description, is "only". An easy Act to get this achievement on, is Act 2-1 (River) on casual difficulty, but there will be other opportunities later in the game as well. On Act 2-1, you'll come out in the open where you will find 2 Romanovs.
Get close to one, melee attack it :bbut:, and seek cover :xbut: as your ARS temperature gauge will indicate it's overheated. Solty has suggested not to use the disc launcher, as it will launch a disc at the end of the melee attack, and thus it won't count as a melee. Boost-melee seems to be quite destructive! Rinse and repeat these steps. Focus on one Romanov at a time. But never shoot at the Romanov, only melee attacks. It's alright if your NPC teammates shoot at it, as long as you don't!! If you accidentally shot one, press :start: and reload last checkpoint, then try again. On casual difficulty this shouldn't be challenge at all, as you almost seem invulnerable.
Since you can only use melee attacks to get this achievement, it will also unlock the Romanov This! one.

On Act 1-3 (Giant), at some point Elena will say that the gates are open. On the north-west side, as soon as the gates open, there will be a number of red regular robots coming down the stairs. Just throw a grenade at them and the achievement is yours. If it didn't work, press :start: and reload last checkpoint. This time, throw an EMP Emitter first immediately followed a hand grenade. You'll get plenty of other opportunities throughout the game.

You will find plenty of rocket launchers in the game. Pick one up, and equip it. You have to destroy three enemy robots with a single missile. Having the rocket launcher upgraded a couple of times might help as well (more damage).

Destroy four enemies simultaneously with the Lock-on Laser.
Alright, this one took me several attempts to get. You'll find this weapon for the first time in Act 1-5 (Trust). This weapon shoots 4 homing missiles to the targets you've picked with the laser (:rtbut:). Another important part for this achievement to succeed, is that you must kill all 4 enemies with one shot. So, hold :rtbut: and move your :rs: to pick the enemies. As the homing missiles fly up in the sky, then rain down on the regular red robots, it'll be considered as headshots and thus insta-kills. But my problem was that some robots got locked-on twice. You may want to go into manual AR Mode to make it easier as well. Having the lock-on laser upgraded a couple of times, will fire more homing missiles.
If you didn't get this achievement throughout the game, then level select after you've beaten the game, and select Act 2-1 (River) on casual difficulty. You will start with a weapon crate at the very beginning. Kick it open. If it's a lock-on laser, pick it up and let yourself get killed, then choose "checkpoint". That way, if you fail, you can reload the last checkpoint and you'll have the lock-on laser right from the start.
Then, boost under the truck to get behind the red robots and the Chicanes. Don't worry too much about the robot using the turret. Now, destroy the red robots but leave 1 or 2 for your NPC teammates to focus on. Go into manual AR Mode and start depleting the health bar (but leave a small amount of health though) on all the Chicanes using the assault rifle or heavy machine gun.
Then, switch to your lock-on laser, press :rtbut: and start targeting the remaining red robots and chicanes using your :rs:, and you should get it. If not, reload last checkpoint, and try again.

Destroy the arms, head, and back of an KNRB-0 Argus robot.
You will be introduced to the KNRB-0 Argus robot for the first time on Act 1-3 (Giant). This huge robot comes into 2 phases. The first phase, it will be four-legged. Shoot at the yellow glow on the arms and legs, destroying bits of the core in between when it's exposing it. After destroying the core, you will get a QTE.
In its second phase, the KNRB-0 Argus robot will be standing on 2 legs. Again, shoot the yellow glow on his arms. Now, looking back at the achievement's description, are 2 words of great importance: "head" and "back". You won't see that same yellow glow on the head nor the back, but if you aim at it, you will see it also has a health bar. Now destroy both head and back. The order is of no importance. You might shoot the back first, then the head, or vice versa. It really doesn't matter. Once all these are destroyed, destroy the legs to expose the core a couple more times. As soon as you destroy the robot, the achievement will unlock.
If you didn't get this throughout the game, then you could try this. Select Act 2-3 (Nightmare) on casual difficulty after having beaten the game. Enter the building, destroy the few enemies, and once you get out of the building, you'll be in the open again with 2 of these KNRB-0 Argus robots. One will be four-legged, the other one in the back will be two-legged. Go for the one in the back as it's already transformed into its second phase. Try to get weapon upgrades along the way. If you happen to die, reload last checkpoint. The reason why I didn't pick the one from Act 1-3, is that if you die when the Argus is in its second phase, you'll have to go all the way again to get it transformed from 4 to 2 legs.

This ship has 4 turrets, one on each corner of the ship, but you cannot use these. In fact, Elena will take control of them. All you'll have to do, is aim using your :rs: and shoot using :ltbut: (not :rtbut: as with the regular weapons!)

Destroy two Argus robots in Act 2-3 while they are in bipedal mode.
Only on Act 2-3: Nightmare
Remember the KNRB-0 Argus from Act 1-3 (Giant)? Well, you'll be facing two of these now! I suggest doing this one on casual difficulty, preferably using level select after having beaten the game.
From the start of this Act, enter the building in front of you, destroy the few enemies inside, and once you're back outside, you'll find 2 of these KNRB-0 Argus robots. One will be four-legged, the other one in the back will be two-legged. It took me a moment to figure out what I had to do, until someone put me on track (thanks kr4t0s). In order to get this achievement, both KNRB-0 Argus robots have to be two-legged before you destroy them!
Take care of the four-legged one to start with, because the two-legged one in the back won't be attacking you (unless you start attacking it) as it'll be too busy attacking the ally ship flying around (thanks Solty). Back to the four-legged one, shoot its weak spots on the arms and legs, and the core when exposed. From the moment the core gets destroyed, a QTE will be triggered.
Remember, in Act 1-3, you had to use the buttons as prompted to make the Argus transform into its second phase? In this Act, it is the opposite!! Pressing the correct buttons when prompted, is NOT what we want to do this time, because this will destroy the Argus. Instead, do nothing at all in this QTE!! It will transform into its second phase and become two-legged (bi-pedal). Destroy both of them when 2-legged.
Here's a video that might help. The author starts attacking the 2-legged one first, then the 4-legged one. In fact, it doesn't matter which one gets destroyed first. But the video should give you an idea.

In order to get this achievement, you have to destroy every enemy and complete the mission with the big Pangloss statue intact. It is not as hard as it sounds.
When you cross the bridge and arrive at the plaza, you will be ambushed from all sides mainly by red regular robots. They aren't any threat to that statue. The real threat will be an enemy vehicle with circular saw blades in front of it, the same one from Act 1-5 (Trust). Once you've destroyed some robots, you'll get an animation of this vehicle breaking through the rubble.
This vehicle is pretty fast and can destroy the statue in a matter of seconds. On this mission, you will be in a wooded area where you will have to eliminate the enemy resistance. At some point, you'll be given the instruction to go to the elevator, where you will have to fend off the enemy whilst waiting for the elevator to arrive.
Once the elevator has arrived, you'll be told to board the elevator. Go camp inside the building and red robots from outside will start assaulting you. You'll get the instruction to push the elevator activation switch. DON'T!! Even if Burns or Elena say you must activate the elevator, just keep fighting the many waves of red robots until you got the last one. As soon as you destroy the very last one of them, the achievement unlocks instantly.

Destroy the Buzzard without allowing it to reach ground level in Act 5-1.
Only on Act 5-1: Denouement
For this specific achievement, miGu sama found a good strategy to get the job done:
Once the door opens to this area, rocket boost towards the left. There will be a bunker there with gatling guns. Equip frag grenades and throw one or two into the bunker to damage or even destroy the droids inside. There will be regular red droids and armored ones.
Once you open the door to the bunker, immediately trigger AR Mode as there will be an armored droid heading towards you. Depending on the success of your grenade toss, there might be two or three droids remaining. Destroy them quickly and equip your EMP grenades.
Toss an EMP grenade towards the Buzzard to stun it and then quickly man the gatling gun (NOTE: grab the one that is closer to the Buzzard). Shoot the Buzzard for roughly 4 to 5 seconds, let go of the gun and immediately aim and throw another EMP grenade at the Buzzard. After throwing, take control of the gatling gun once again and fire.
It will probably take a few EMPs to get the job done. If you do not use EMPs, the Buzzard will jump off the platform when its health is about 50%. If you do see the Buzzard jump, just Pause -> Checkpoint to restart at the beginning of that firefight, because the game will autosave as soon as the Buzzard hits the floor!
If you didn't manage to get in on your playthrough, you can always level select after having beaten the game and try on casual difficulty setting.

Destroy 10 enemies distracted by cigarettes during one mission.
First, you must get into cover. To get into cover, get close to a fixed object such as a wall or something and press :xbut:. While you're in cover, press :lbbut: to light up a cigarette. Sam will light up a smoke, then throw it away which will distract the robots and they will start shooting at the cigarette. Shoot the robots while they're distracted. If you happen to destroy 2 or more robots distracted from a single cigarette, you will get the Auld Lang Syne achievement. If you manage to kill 10 robots during a single mission, you'll be rewarded with the Smoke 'em if ya got 'em! achievement. Note that you only have 3 cigarettes per mission. To see how many cigarettes you have left, look at the bottom right of your screen. It's that little 'stick' above your weapons that looks like this "\"
As shown in the video below, a great spot to get this achievement on, is near the end of Act 3-5 (Despair) right before you have to board the Kreon. On this particular area, the Kreon will be on your left side. You will find plenty of green "Marines" ammo crates in this area. Similar to the rocket launcher and lock-on laser achievement descriptions, if you don't have a rocket launcher on this section, kick the ammo crates open, and keep reloading last checkpoint and repeating previous steps until you get a rocket launcher. Then, let yourself get killed, so that you'll have the rocket launcher right from the start.
Once you do have it, and as you move towards the Kreon, you'll be welcomed by a bunch of enemy robots and Romanovs on your left side when the hatch opens up. Get into cover, light up a cigarette, throw it away, and as soon as they all start shooting your cigarette, fire a few missiles at them. If you didn't get it and ran out of smokes, reload last checkpoint. It is really easy.

Find and fire upon all of the Pangloss statues hidden on the colony.
This is a collectables related achievement. Throughout the game, you might bump into one of these Pangloss statues, but most of the time they are hard to spot! They are very small golden statues and when you shoot at them, they make a funny sound or insult you, and then turn red.
There are 112 of these little ones to be found throughout the game, and there are 4 Pangloss statues per mission (except Act 1 Mission 1 which has none). The good news is, once you've found (and shot) one, you don't have to look for it over again but only if you get to a checkpoint. They also carry over on multiple playthroughs.
If you have finished the campaign but didn't get the achievement, you can go to the main menu and "level select". Make sure you do this after you've beaten the game, as it will mess up your saved game! From the main menu, select "Game" then "Mission". You have access to all missions on all acts, where you get to see all kinds of statistics but also the number of Pangloss statues found. Just select the missions where you may have missed some, then press :abut: to start that mission. Use the video guide below to help you with this achievement.

Complete the game without dying, regardless of difficulty level.
Missable achievement
Alright, for this one, you will have to run through the full campaign without dying once! You can get this achievement on any difficulty. So, whether it be casual, normal or (god) hard, it doesn't matter. On casual difficulty, you almost seem invulnerable and it'll take quite a lot of bullets to bring you down. On hard difficulty, you will die a lot (at least, I did)!! Never, ever use "mission select" on your playthrough because it will fail this achievement to unlock!
Now, several people have found this little trick (also shown in the video below): when Sam dies, you'll be brought back to the "mission failed menu" where you can choose to get back to the last "checkpoint", "restart" the whole mission, or go back to the "title screen". Choose "Title screen", and from there choose "Game" then "Continue". It is similar to the "Checkpoint" on the previous screen, except for these two major differences:
1) Title screen & Continue = registers zero deaths / Checkpoint = registers one death
2) Title screen & Continue = weapons are set to previous settings / Checkpoint = weapons remain upgraded
Tip: You might want to backup your saved game onto a memory unit or USB stick once in a while, so that you can return to an older saved game. If somehow you mess up by accidentally chosing "checkpoint" and you do not have a backed up saved game, you can press :start: again, then select "restart". This will reset your deaths to zero but only on that mission (and not the entire Act!), and your weapons will have the same upgrades and ammo as when you started the mission the 1st time (thanks Solty).

Complete all of the Tactical Challenges in VANQUISH
Once you've successfully completed an Act on normal difficulty or above, a "Tactical Challenge" mode will be unlocked which can be accessed from the game menu. There's one tactical challenge per completed Act. Once you've completed these challenges... surprise! A sixth one unlocks. These tactical challenges can be compared to the "firefights" in Halo:ODST or "hordes" in Gears of War 2. You'll have to eliminate the enemies coming in different waves. There are 5 waves per tactical challenge. As the number of waves goes up, so does the difficulty... Tactical challenge 6 has proven to be one of the very, very difficult ones.
This will probably one of the last achievements you will get, as this is the most difficult achievement of them all. It is one of these achievements to be very proud of to have...
I suggest you search in the forums for strategies posted by members who used different methods and/or weapons.

I wrote a bit about the achievements myself, dont have time to make a complete guide so will paste it here to use, can use whatever you want.
You can replay individual Acts and missions. The game is really short finished it in less then 3 hours.
After finishing the game on any difficulty you unlock god hard mode. But doesn't seem like there are any achievements for it.
Upgrading weapons is pretty weird in this game. You can carry 3 weapons at once (and 2 types of grenades, normal and EMP). You upgrade a weapon when you pick up a weapon while your carrying the weapon already with full ammo. Once you do this 5 times you unlock a new upgrade for a weapon (carry 20% more ammo, bigger magazine, more damage etc). So fastest way to upgrade is, carry three weapons but only use 1, keep the other 2 with full ammo so every time you pick up a weapon of the 2 your carrying with full ammo you get an upgrade.
Upgrades dont carry over playthroughs, if you finish the game and start a new one, you will start with unupgraded weapons again.
One Day at Darpa 10g
Complete All Darpa Training Excercises
Beginning of the game you get a tutorial, obviously don't pick skip but go trough all the training steps and viola.
40 Yard Dash
Maintain a Boost dash to the limit of ARS reactor without overheating.
Find a good spot, with enough room for the long dash, hold LB to dash, keep wachting the overheat bar and let go of LB when only tiny bit on the bar is left. Shouldnt give any problems.
Romanov This! 20g
Destroy a Romanov with a melee attack
Act 1-2 (like 15 mins into the game) you will encounter a Romanov for the first time, its basically the 2nd type of enemy you see, bigger and stronger then the normal red human size robots. Shoot it till its on like 25% or less then run/slide up to it and melee it.
Fight or Flight 10g
Manually trigger AR Mode and destroy an enemy robot.
Trigger AR mode while dodging (LS + A) hold LT, and shoot a robot. Any robot will work.
Home Run 10g
Destroy an incoming missle or grenade
While fighting the first huge robot a KNRB-0 Argus (Act 1-2), you will probably get it without even trying. The argus spams like 100 little missiles/grenades at once a few times, its hard not to hit one.
Home Run God 10g
Destroy ten incoming missiles or grenades
Also got this during first Argus battle. If you don't get it there are more Argus fights so can get it later or from other enemy.
Piece by Piece 20g
Destroy the arms, head, and back of an KNRB-0 Argus robot.
There are 2 stages to this fight. 2nd stage is where you get the achievement. 1st stage just shoot the legs where they glow (the joints) and while a leg is crippled shoot the core. Once the core is damaged enough 2nd stage will start, the robot will stand up. Dont shoot the core, but shoot the arms at the glowing elbows, keep shooting the elbows till the arms fall off. Shoot the head, its not glowing but also has a health bar, keep shooting it till it explodes. Shoot the glowing thing on the back, till health bar is depleted. The Argus will buckle and expose the core, shoot the core till the health bar is gone and all done.
Helloooo, Nurse 5g
Revive a friendly troop.
When you see friendly troups on there hands and knees with a cross above them, walk up to them press X to heal. Be quick because enemy will keep shooting them and killing them.
Robots Tend to Blow Up 10g
Destroy three enemy robots at once with one hand grenade.
There are more then enough spots todo this, when robots are close together.
Destroy 2 romanovs in a row
In act 2-1 you will encounter 2 romanovos, dont shoot at them AT ALL, only use melee attacks on them. It will require like 3-4 melee attacks each.
There are 10 weapons.
1 Assault Rifle
2 Heavy Machine Gun
3 Shotgun
4 Sniper Rifle
5 Disk Launcher
6 Rocket Launcher
7 Lock-On Laser
8 LFE Gun
9 Hand Grenade
10 EMP Grenade

Smoke 'em if ya got 'em!30
Destroy 10 enemies distracted by cigarettes during one mission.
Auld Lang Syne15
Destroy two enemy robots who have been distracted by a cigarette.
When you are in cover you can use LB to smoke and he will throw the cigarette after a few seconds.
I got both in act 3-5. When your below the Kreon, it will open up and a "balcony" with like 10+ enemies will come out twice. Do the cigarette thing then.
Living Legend50
Complete the game without dying, regardless of difficulty level.
Easier then it sounds. If you die immediatly press start and pick "title screen" and then just continue the game.
Failure Breeds Success15
Destroy two Argus robots in Act 2-3 while they are in bipedal mode.
You will encouter 2 robots at once, 1 is already standing (bipedal mode), other one is on 4 legs. You can just kill the one standing the normal way. With the one on 4 legs you should, just shoot the legs, there will be a finisher quick time even, just fail the even and dont kill the argus yet. Then it will stand up, then kill it.

Fisher is the Other Sam15
Proceed on the monorail in Act 3-4 without being spotted by the enemy troops or searchlights.
This one gave me some problems. Take a sniper rifle there are more enough of the monorail. Shoot the lights thats pretty easy. But about half way through a flying patrol comes from the front, flies overhead returns and starts shooting at you, once it does you lose the achievement. The NPC via coms suggests "shoot it from the rear" but that doesnt work, because you will already will have lost the achievement. As soon as you see the patrol coming from the front, go into AR mode (bullet time) use sniper rifle to kill it.
Guardian10
Do not allow any friendly armor to be destroyed during Act 3-5.
1 tank will come through the middle at the start of the level, slide behind it and shoot the weak point at the back. Run up the walkway, get behind the turret and shoot the tanks and npc's that are attacking your allied tanks. Dont waste too much ammo, there are 2 turrets up there but have limit ammo.
Hurry the #@$% Up!10
Destroy five or more enemy transports from atop the Kreon in Act 3-7.
Only the transporters at the end of the level count, when you have to pull out the tube thing. Dont pull out the tube just yet, just kill 5 transporters before you do, achievement will unlock immediately after you killed the 5th one.
Civil Disobedience30
Ignore the elevator start order in Act 4-1. Instead, hold position and destroy all reinforcements.
Its the 2nd elevator in the level, I stood waiting like an idiot at the 1st one for 10 minutes. The NPC will enter the elevator, and yell at you to join, dont just stand there and wait for 1-2 mins. More enemies will come for a few minutes just wait it out until you get the achievement.

Also, for the Fisher is the other Sam achievement. Even thought the patrol on the flying thing got by me at first, I turned around and waited for him to come back and I got him before he spotted me and I got the achievement. Just make sure you aim at the driver.

You're just doing this on any new game? You really need to wait, you did this same thing with Monopoly Streets and what it does is cause people who could put a good guide together figure "someone else will handle it" when really you're usnig a place holder. How do you know you have the best methods for the achievements if you haven't even played the game (besides the demo)? It's always best to write a guide when you have a good handle on it, not just because you want to! Just some feedback, not trying to be negative but this isn't the first time you've put placeholders without actually having content.

That's Lame. I tried the first one once and lost on the 5th round and decided that I would try later. This might be the toughest one in the game. Every level has an individual death count so beating the game without dieing won't be bad.

Just pretty much copy all the stuff the OP has and then erase his stuff and put your own words.
and for the steps it generally goes like
Step 1: Singleplayer
Step 2: Multiplayer (if there is any)
Step 3: Clean up
and explain what to do in each step and then fill in descriptions under every achievement

It seems like that's what everyone is doing now. IMO you shouldn't even be allowed to post a guide until it's 30-50% complete. What ends up happening is what Tyger said above, but also guides become "community guides". People post their own methods and the thread creator just fills them in with that info, often without giving any credit.
It's really sad that people get Awards on this site and PS3T for effectively posting a thread without actually doing the hard work.

Easy answer for you. =) When you fight the Argus in the spiderish form after you destroy the core and it goes to the action scene when you spin around and drill thru it's body simply DO NOT spin the control stick and drill Sam thru the Argus it will then get up and transform into Robot mode.

Since the everyone is posting guide material here I will re-post this.
On Act 1 mission 5 you will get a cut scene and right after there is the Laser gun that locks on, well if you grab it and die you can grab it again and again after the cut scene. You should be able to get the kill 4 enemies simultaneously achievement too.
If there is a easier way i apologize but I did it this way and got it out the way early. I think you can do it a lil earlier with the saw gun at a different part.
Also Act 1 mission 7 which is called Seize (I think) there is a rocket launcher right there and you can do the same thing.

Destroy three enemy robots at once with rocket launcher splash damage. Yea its Act 1 mission 7 and this is a easy place to get Flash! King of Impossible too (destroy 4 enemies simultaneously with the Lock-on Laser). Just as he said there is a whole group of enemies and if you wait for them all to activate and as soon as they hit the ground target the large group of them with the laser.

Defend the Pangloss statue in Act 3-2.
Once the battle by the statue begins, grab the Lock-on Laser to the left (direction is based off of your point of origin) of the statue. Destroy the droids as per normal. Once the saw tank comes out, rocket boost behind it and throw an EMP grenade to stun the vehicle.
Go into AR mode and let loose at its weak spot. Once the EMP effects wear off, throw another grenade immediately and then pelt its weak spot with lead. If timed correctly, you will destroy the tank before it gets a chance to ram the Pangloss statue.

Buzzard Beater
Destroy the Buzzard without allowing it to reach ground level in Act 5-1.
It will probably take three EMPs to get the job done. If you do not use EMPs, the Buzzard will jump off the platform before you can destroy it. If you do see the Buzzard jump, just Pause -> Checkpoint to restart at the beginning of that firefight.

So I seem to be having trouble with Civil Disobedience cheeve. I reach the elevator and do exactly what the cheeve says and ignore the order to start it however when I go to kill the reinforcements they spawn infinitely and I can't figure out what the hell is going on. Either I must be really blind to not see it or I'm missing something else. I know for a fact I will feel dumb when I hear a very simple answer to this problem lol.

On Act 1 mission 5 you will get a cut scene and right after there is the Laser gun that locks on, well if you grab it and die you can grab it again and again after the cut scene. You should be able to get the kill 4 enemies simultaneously achievement too.
I don't know how any of you who've gotten the Flash! King of the Impossible achievement did it lol. I've been trying for the last half hour and the damn gun always targets 3 droids and sometimes it will target the same one twice. It's so annoying.
EDIT:
Finally got it!
Instead of Act 2-1, I started Tactical Challenge 1. At the beginning, I just substituted the Lock-On Laser for my shotgun and picked a spot to take cover. It seems that the instant kills from the Lock-On Laser are more consistent on droids that are stationary (i.e., hiding behind cover). Whenever I hit droids that are in motion, they almost always never get killed in one shot.
Anyway, I just picked off the advancing droids with the assault rifle and waited for the campers to settle in. Once they were comfortable in their respective spots, I let loose with the Lock-On Laser and voila, the Flash! King of the Impossible achievement!

I just completed the game on Hard with no deaths (using Continue method). I unlocked all of the achievements associated with completing the acts on hard, including Living Legend. It took me 4:22 mins of played time, but with deaths it was probably closer to 7. I spent a bunch of time restarting areas to make sure I didn't miss certain achievements as well.
About to clean up a few achievements before I get started on Tactical.

For the others players that have problems with that one - just upgrade Lock-on Laser few times and you can lock up to 8 targets at once. In some levels there are enemies transports with 5-6 robots. Just lock-on in one of them. Easy one.:)

If there is a easier way i apologize but I did it this way and got it out the way early. I think you can do it a lil earlier with the saw gun at a different part.
That is exactly where I did it too. I got it up to the highest rank, which doesn't take too long with that gun, and with 8 targets it's a lot easier. Still took a few tries then, though. You just have to be careful not to target the Romanov.

Nah, it's really not that easy unless you set it up right or get absurdly lucky. I spent a decent amount of time trying to get this achievement, just like miGu Sama. I had it fully upgraded and beat the game on hard and still didn't get it.
I had to farm it at 2-1 to unlock it. I had already beaten the entire game, fully upgraded it, and used it every chance I got up until that point. I probably spent more time on this one achievement than every other individual non-story related achievement so far. All I'm missing is statues and tactical.
so since this guide is more or less an epic fail by the creator as tyger pointed out, i will write one once i'm halfway done with the N3 2 guide...or someone else beats me to it :)

Easiest way to get it is actually with the jellyfish (act 1-5?). When you kill a jellyfish like 20 walking mines pop out, kill 4 of them. Trick is to move far forward, just skip one jellyfish and kill the 2nd one so your teammate NPCs are focused on the 1st jellyfish and dont kill the walking mines your locking on it.
You do get more lock ons though once the lock on laser is upgraded 8 I think.

It's always best to write a guide when you have a good handle on it, not just because you want to! Just some feedback, not trying to be negative but this isn't the first time you've put placeholders without actually having content.
Yeah exactly. IMO I think a "Achievement Guides" should be written by a person who has about 90 % of the attainable cheevos in the game at least.

Leibniz Defense Agency

Amen to this. Not trying to be negative but I'm seeing this happen WAY too much lately. Granted, some guides have turned into damn good material, but for the most part, the writer leaves it skeletal for everyone else to fill in and that is not on in my opinion.
However, I'm still really against people putting up a guide without a good amount of the achievements already gained or at least some good starting info. To think, my first guide, I felt bad writing it when I only had 3 achievements left to get :/

At the end of act 3-4, after you destroy the last section of lights, the AI mentions something about enemies and two floating turrets fly across straight ahead of the monoraill. Kill those two and you get the achivement.
And those cannons are at the end of the highway before you reach the end of the stage. It's those 6 cannons, just destroy two and achievement :]

I don't know if this is a glitch or not, but I was able to farm weapon ranks at the beginning of I believe 1-6, right after you emerge from the tunnel with the light APC. Whenever I died, I wouldn't lose a rank and would reload, picking up the Laser Cannon, Boost Machine Gun, Anti-Armor Pistol, Rocket Launcher, Assault Rifle, Disc Launcher, and Lock-On Laser until they were all maxed. I died later on 2-2 I think and lost a rank on my equipped weapons but nothing else.
This could warrant more investigation and would make a fairly easy hard mode substantially easier.

I think it's the same principle as with restarting the game (Pause -> Title Screen or just opt to go to the Title Screen) instead of just reloading the checkpoint for the Living Legend achievement.
When you restart the game doesn't detect any deaths and as such does not penalize the player by "demoting" the weapon.

Does anyone know how to get the Flyswatter achievement? The turrets in 3-4 are bullet sponges.
I was under the impression that you could take out the searchlight and then immediately shoot the turret but the shot from the sniper rifle barely even did any damage. I tried using other weapons and of course, the alarm sounds and the turrets start firing at you. I'm stumped.

Well I read how people were doing the title screen exit to not lose an upgrade on hard, but I went through the whole death animation and let it reload without going to the title screen. It may just be a faster method than exiting to title screen then. It probably is only on starts of missions, because I think when I did lose ranks it was after a checkpoint.

Just a note, for the Destroy 5 Transports Atop the Kreon achievement: it has to be literally on the very very top of the machine. It's obvious from the achievement title, but just in case there's any other people out there who killed like 912898012 transports on the trip up to the tube and wondered why it didn't unlock, haha.
Also the sniping on the monorail, make good use of the time slow mechanic when the things are flying around. Slow it down, aim, boom headshot.
A gun fully upgrades when it gets to 10 stars.
In ch. 4-1, for the Ignore the Elevator achievement, a lot of enemies will come but they are all basic enemies and they come in the same patterns every time. Even on Hard, it was a very easy 30GS. Just keep on killin and killin until they stop coming.
For fighting the two robots bipedal, there's a "safe area" that protects you from a lot of the craziness going on. It's in a corner of the map. It's like a little crane truck thing? I don't know. There's a golden statue on its safe side though. Despite having large holes on it, the spider mech's giant bullets can't go through it, nor can anything else. Remember that things can still go OVER it, though, so watch out for bombs and missiles. Otherwise, very good place to damage the first bipedal robot.
And uh that's all I got to say for now. My little input into some. Sorry if it's out of order, haha.
But yeah, I love this game! Made my first playthrough on Hard. Intense stuff, yo. I didn't get the game for the achievements, but I'm sure as hell gonna try to get them all.

As for the people thinking he'll want people to fill in the guide and then take the credit, that isn't what Trikke is about. He got the game today and is installing it to the HDD. He just wanted the basics of the guide doing so he'll save sometime when he adds all the achievement information.

you get it in the sniper level at the very end. When they say "enemy ahead" look for the two turrrets coming from the right side and zoom your sniper as much as you can. After, shoot not at the turret but at the very right part of it where the gun tip is because the sniper bullet travels very slow so you have to time it. If you time it well each turret should die in 2 shots. Its pretty tricky but i got it on the third try. good luck!

To all of you
(and I hope you’ll read every word of it)
Oh boy! If this would be a popularity contest, I’d sure be losing this one!
With the achievement guide for Dead Space: Ignition fully edited, it was time to move to the one on Vanquish. I was reading the posts in this thread and I was shocked!
I got flamed by some people because I “dared” to create an achievement guide without even having started the game. Yes, I’m guilty to that.
Because of some people who don’t know me at all, other people will start thinking I’m the biggest asshole on the globe!
So, let me introduce myself: I am decent guy, with a daytime job as a Senior Account Manager in the insurance industry. I’m over 30, have a wife, and a wonderful son. I’ve been gaming since the beginning of the 80’s! Atari, Commodore 64, Sega Master System, … I’ve played them all!
Now, there are two kinds of people who left posts in here: the ones who actually contribute to the achievement guide, and those who spend their valuable time doing everything else but contributing.
I’ll tell you what I need: I need people who give approaches/their view on achievements, I need people who create threads if there are collectables, or threads with youtube videos, or then again, thread about the tactic challenges/tips, you know stuff like that to link to in the guide...
What I don’t need, are posts from people bitching me around! Such posts have no value at all!
The way I see it is this:
- I could make an achievement guide using Word, then put the whole achievement guide in a thread and immediately submit it to the guide team for approval. Appearantly, that’s what some people are hinting me to do (or what I should have done)
- Or, I could start an achievement guide thread, and invite people to be part of it. To make an achievement guide made by the community for the community. I thought that’s what we were, and that we were proud to be part of this community. It is not a one man show! Some people give such damn good achievement descriptions, that there is not other or better way to explain it. These achievement descriptions will be copied into the achievement guide (if I get your permission that is) and the people will be credited for it. Or, sometimes it’s better to have a solution in the achievement description, but also have an alternative solution to get that same achievement.
But, let me ask you, did you ever check out on my other guides? Obviously not, or else you would have known this:
- I write an achievement guide for a 200G game with the same devotion as if it was a 1000G one, so expect no less on Vanquish’s guide
- If someone’s achievement description is used, I always give them credits for it. Don’t believe me? Go look it up!
- I’m a completionist. I really want the full 100% completion on all of my games if possible. So, letting the others do the hard work and I taking credits for it…? That’s not how I work
- I never rush an achievement guide. I try to make it as detailed and accurate as possible. This takes many hours of writing, testing, reading, editing, correcting, and more… I could also be using those many hours to spend some quality time with my wife and son, or play another awesome game. So, by reading some of the posts, it somehow hurts to see how ungrateful some people can be.
A few posts got my attention, and I’d like to answer these:
wtf are you kidding me? you wrote another achievement guide for a game and you don't have any info again? ffs
Yes, exactly! That’s how I always proceeded, and look at the results.
Well, in fact, to date I have written 5 guides and I haven’t gotten any awards for that. So… I’m not doing it for the awards, although they’re nice to have.
So . . . am i right in thinking that the OP has just put the achievement list up with the hope that people will fill in the gaps and he can claim that he wrote the guide?
If that's the case then do it. This is pretty lame.
*facepalm*
Like I said earlier, I invite people to be part of the guide. I also always give credits to people when I use their solution.
I’m not just sitting here and waiting until everyone has given a solution on every possible achievement, then copy-pasting it to fill out the blanks. I actually DO play the game, and I actually DO 1k it (if possible)
Well if i snag the game from the rental store tomorrow i might write a guide for it since this one obviously fails...i mean come on dude, 2 days and no info yet???? i heard it's a pretty short game you should have your shit down by now
If you would have done some research, Sir, you would have known I’m from Belgium. Belgium is in Europe (yeah, google it). With some extra research, you would also have known that the game got released on the 22nd of October in Europe and not earlier.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. And no, I’m not doing this for every new game. I didn’t start a thread on Fallout: New Vegas or Fable III.
I always put in the 1st post that other people can write a guide as well.
Dead Space Ignition was a small 200G game, that only took 3hrs to complete.
As for Monopoly Streets, it’ll be a family game that can be completed within 10-15 hours estimate. The biggest one, is Vanquish.
But since you’re a mod, you have the power to remove a thread if you think it is not done. Just Snap! And it’ll be all history.
With all this being said… if you’ll please excuse me, I have a guide to write (and game to play)
Thanks for reading all this.

@trikke
There guidelines that make sense. Creating a guide with the community is great but you should have played the game to a certain extend to judge if the offered solutions are ok or maybe there are easier ways.
@all
You could write a guide in 1day and submit it however it won't be processed until one month since the actual game's release has passed.

@Trikke
Just what cra said. At least wait till u actually have the game. Saying "community" is fine, but that means u're part of it too. Even if u leave ur guide empty, u should still post, reply, comment, to what others say in ur thread... Which u cannot if u havent played the game at all. That little few would have been enough to avoid alot of haters posts, u could have explained urself far sooner. I read all the thread, and to be honest, I didnt like u either at first. No post from u up to page 3 !
That said, seeing the amount of time spent on explaining urself, I'd say u're excused. Cause if u dedicate urself in the guide as much as u did explaining urself, then yes, I beleive u'll do it thouroughly.
Understand that most people looking into ur thread arent there to be part of the community u talk about, they only want tips on how to get acheivements they're too lazy to try to get by themselves. Hell, those lazy bums dont even wanna bother reading through all the posts in ur thread to find a tip ! Reading sucks ! Forget about asking them to post something... other than complains.
@all the lazy bums
For a quick crude acheivement guide, go check Lelouch345's thread. That dude created his x360a profile 2 weeks ago just so he could feed ur needs, isnt that awsome ?

Leibniz Defense Agency (Defend the Pangloss statue in Act 3-2.)
On casual difficulty, 3 rockets dead front on the tank will do just fine. Dont wait till ur rockets are locked on and u wont even need an emp. Just in case, use an emp.
Buzzard Beater (Destroy the Buzzard without allowing it to reach ground level in Act 5-1.)
The buzzard jumps on ground level when u drop him below 50% health OR when u kill all ennemies on the ground.
On casual difficulty, kill the ennemies in the bunker if u want a safe spot (u can shoot the barrels out of ur line of sight beforehand), drop the buzzard's health to almost 50%, then 3 rockets will do the rest. He wont have time to get back on his feet to jump between 2 rockets (dont wait for rockets lock on).
Note : if u dont have rockets, reload last checkpoint, try ur luck at the random weapon boxes, or random ennemy drops, or random friendly saving drops. Rince and repeat until u get one.

Is ths guide going anywhere? I am at the end of the game and could do with a guide on the clean up.
I would rather find no guide than a topic with no guide at all. Just "work in progress" This is a total joke!
Why the hell is the OP creating a guide when he hasnt even cleared act 1 yet! Is he even playing it on Hard mode!
I hope to god this gets deleted. Im more of a regular on xbox.com forums. I find this site very useful. This is enough to put someone off though.
Are there any of the offical guide makers for this site playing this game? Or do we need to wait on the N00b getting past all the chapters?

Just pretty much copy all the stuff the OP has and then erase his stuff and put your own words.
and for the steps it generally goes like
Step 1: Singleplayer
Step 2: Multiplayer (if there is any)
Step 3: Clean up
and explain what to do in each step and then fill in descriptions under every achievement

Hi wrote an introduction and thought you could use some of the info in yours. For note, introductions normally tell the player about the achievements, ie. missable ones, etc. as well as introduce them to a game.(Some info from wikipedia).
Vanquish is a video game developed by Platinum Games, the creators of Bayonetta, which takes place in the near future where the planet's human population has exploded so rapidly that nations of people around the globe are fighting for the scarce available resources.
The game is a third person action shooter and follows the protagonist Sam, a DARPA researcher trying to stop an attack on New York from Russian ultra-nationalist forces known as the Order of the Russian Star.
It is Shinji Mikami's first game under the Platinum Games brand, who is best known for being the creator of Resident Evil.
Edit: I'll remove the info if used/ or not used as the case may be :D
Btw for introduction I'm pretty sure that the space station used to attack San Francisco belonged to the US, but was captured by the Russians.

I recommend a warning right at the beginning not to use chapter select until you have played through completely.
Complete all Acts requires playing through all acts consecutively. If you use chapter select at any time in your playthrough you will not get the achievement for completing the game even though you have literally completed all acts (and have the achievements for each act). Likewise it is possible to complete every chapter in an act but not get the achievement for that act if you used chapter select.
Stupid design but I guess they thought they knew better than 100s of shooters that went before, so beware.

Some corrections/precisions I'd like to point out.
Overview:
Does difficulty affect achievements: NO, unless specified.
Only the acheivements related to beatin the game on hard mode (or higher) are affected. Other than that, I did all mine on casual difficulty. Although I dont know whether they can be unlocked or not on "casual auto".
This makes alot of acheivements easier to unlock. Ur guide explains how to get them on hard mode (especially since u only played the game on hard mode so far). U may want to prove that all acheivements can be done in a single playthrough, but wont many prefer the easier and less time consuming ways with chapter select on casual ? Why do it the hard way when there's so much easier ?

Only after u go through the credits mission (after u beat the game) do u unlock this (those) acheivements. Sounds like it counts as Act 6 or something. That would be the reason why u cannot unlock those acheivements using mission select only.

"The Romanov appears for the first time in Act 1-4 (Rescue)"
First Romanov appears on the first KNRB-0 Argus mission.
Casual difficulty : A Romanov will die before u have a chance to destroy all his arms and legs, BUT u only need to destroy ONE leg (as long as it's crawling on the ground) before u melee it (it should only have a very small amount of life left at this point) to get the acheivement.

On casual difficulty, kill the ennemies in the bunker if u want a safe spot , drop the buzzard's health to almost 50%, then 3 rockets will do the rest (u can shoot the barrels out of ur line of sight beforehand). Isnt a guide supposed to tell the easiest way ? Aim, use emp, mount gatling, aim, shoot, dismount, aim, use emp, rinse repeat ? 100% of its health instead of 50% ? How many times did u screw it up before u succeeded ? What a pain...

What I'm also interested, are these:
1) The average amount of time spent for everyone to get to 950G. I didn't create a poll for that, but considered it. Let's say the campaign itself would take 7 hours, double it if your doing a 2nd playthrough, some additional "mop up" would be a fair 15-20 hours IMO. So, I could put 20+ hours because of the challenges.
Now, if someone tells me the campaign takes 35 hours, I'll have to review a few things.
So... how long did it take you to get to 950G?
2) I've seen multiple posts from people saying NOT to redo a mission (level select) before beating the game. True? Why?
EDIT: #2 has been answered in previous post by vithzeral ; thanks

I would suggest putting the time from 20+ or 25+ due to the fact of Tactical Challenges.
And reason being for not choosing level in the playthrough as many have pointed out is is cause the "Complete All Acts" achievement missable.
Good guide so far will try out some tips posted as im still missing the lock on laser and the 100 melee so will attempt these on my hard playthrough.

Likewise it is possible to complete every chapter in an act but not get the achievement for that act if you used chapter select.
I'm not so sure about this. I mean when I just started the game, somewhere in Act 1-4, I had to shut down the console for a moment.
Next time I started it up, I saw the game's main menu change and I now had the possibility to "level select". But, the chapters I hadn't done yet, weren't accessible/not even on screen...

Am I being ignored ? Or is my English that bad ? Je sais je suis français mais quand même...
Ok, one last time :
After u beat the game (not with the chapter select), by that I mean beating chapter 5.3, u get the "complete Act 5" acheivement (if u dont have it already) at the scores screen, but u dont get the "complete all Acts" acheivement at the same time. Instead, u play the credits mission/chapter (credits = where u see the staff of the game), and only then, at the final scores screen of that mission, do u get the "complete all Acts" acheivement. The credits mission stands as an Act 6 that u cannot play using chapter select, thus u cannot get that acheivement through chapter select.

So, I think I'll be leaving 'Yes' but specify in a bit further in the road map, whether it be introduction or 1st playthrough, about the other achievements you only can get on 'hard'.
I have seen some reports that the 'challenges' do not unlock on casual difficulty? If so, what's the minimum difficulty to unlock these?
I agree the achievement descriptions should be the easy way, the road map the fastest way to 1k.

Only after u go through the credits mission (after u beat the game) do u unlock this (those) acheivements. Sounds like it counts as Act 6 or something. That would be the reason why u cannot unlock those acheivements using mission select only.
Correct. I'll modify achievement description accordingly.
Gun Runner (http://www.xbox360achievements.org/game/vanquish/achievement/46060-Gun-Runner.html)10 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.png
"4. Sniper Rifle (found on Act 1-4: Rescue)"
First one is found in the same spot than in the demo (the first KNRB-0 Argus mission), they didnt remove it.
fyi: the plaza has 2 set of stairs going up, one North-West leading to the turrets, one East leading to a dead end with the sniper.
That's where I found the Sniper Rifle for the first time, before going up the stairs, I found a few "Marines" crates. One of them had the sniper rifle, so I thought this was the earliest.
I must have missed the stairs to the east side on Act 1_3. Thanks for pointing that out, corrections will be done (I don't understand why I missed these stairs ; are they kind of 'hidden' or so?)
Adrenaline Rush (http://www.xbox360achievements.org/game/vanquish/achievement/46063-Adrenaline-Rush.html)20 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.png (and Death Wish (http://www.xbox360achievements.org/game/vanquish/achievement/46068-Death-Wish.html)20 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.png)
Casual difficulty : Easy, just trigger (or get triggered) AR mode and use the lock-on laser on a group of red robots hiding behind cover. (It does not miss stationary ennemies. It fires upwards and kills ennemies from above. Thus headshots. Thus group one-shots on red robots on casual difficulty even if u didnt upgrade it)
It is indeed an easy way to get these ones, but then you sure must have the Lock-On laser which comes a bit later into play and isn't always the most sexy weapon to have in the inventory.
When I got these achievements, I was playing on Hard and with fully upgraded HMG/AR. Tried also with grenade, but then I got out of slow mo and got another achievement instead :)
But, I'll try to add your info somewhere in it.
Brutality Bonus (http://www.xbox360achievements.org/game/vanquish/achievement/46072-Brutality-Bonus.html)10 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.png
Note : I got the acheivement with a single leg, but I dont know if one arm is enough, or if u need to disable both of its firing ability.
The KNRB-0 Argus mission is Act 1-3. I guess I must have forgotten that there was a Romanov. I can only remember the 1st one being at the bottom of the stairs on Act 1-4, before you go up to 'unchain' your 3 teammates.
Buzzard Beater (http://www.xbox360achievements.org/game/vanquish/achievement/46091-Buzzard-Beater.html)30 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.png
Copy-pasting my previous post :
The buzzard jumps on ground level when u drop him below 50% health OR when u kill all ennemies on the ground.
On casual difficulty, kill the ennemies in the bunker if u want a safe spot , drop the buzzard's health to almost 50%, then 3 rockets will do the rest (u can shoot the barrels out of ur line of sight beforehand). He wont have time to get back on his feet to jump between 2 rockets (dont wait for rockets to lock on).
Note : if u dont have rockets (i.e. if u used mission select), reload last checkpoint, try ur luck at the random weapon boxes, or random ennemy drops, or random friendly saving drops (just dont kill all the ennemies on the ground or buzzard will jump down). Rince and repeat until u get one.
Guess I'll totally have to review that achievement's description then.
Aim, use emp, mount gatling, aim, shoot, dismount, aim, use emp, rinse repeat ? 100% of its health instead of 50% ? How many times did u screw it up before u succeeded ? What a pain...
???

"This is what the KNRB-0 Argus robot looks like in bipedal mode."
Em... there's a problem... it seems u got the wrong pic...
It's the boss from stage 1-3. During that chapter u can get the acheivement, but for that u'd need to go back down the stairs if u want to have a chance at seeing the weak red spot on its back.
only asked him if there are no French sites similar to this one and told him some of my FR friends don't understand a single word of English
Well, as far as I know French people are too lazy in general, including learning English :p
That's where I found the Sniper Rifle for the first time, before going up the stairs, I found a few "Marines" crates. One of them had the sniper rifle, so I thought this was the earliest.
Marines crates (green crates u need to open), are random drops. Try to reload last checkpoint, and u'll see. Only the already open drop pods are static. U may do have a chance to get a sniper rifle in marines crates, but I dont know if u need to pick up the weapon at least once before, or if it depends on which mission u're currently playing, because I sure cant seem to drop any sniper, spinner, laser, LFE or rockets in the early 2 first chapters at least.
but then you sure must have the Lock-On laser which comes a bit later into play and isn't always the most sexy weapon to have in the inventory.
If u play casual, u'll LOVE the laser. Trust me, try it :woop:
I tried it on hard mode... I stopped using it. Same for the sniper. Those 2 weapons become pretty useless on hard mode. Their purpose was one-shoting, and doing multiple/massive damage on bigger ennemies. If they dont it make them slow weapons without enough ammo.
???

I know it's self-explanatory, but just as an additional tip, using the Disc Launcher to melee the droids will NOT cause the ARS to overheat.
Interesting. Will add (+cR you for this;) ) this when I start writing its description. Thanks.
Ok pals, I tried to determine whether or not using the Disc Launcher is considered as a melee attack while working towards acheivements.
Results : Yes it does count as a melee attack. I just got the A Heartbreaker and Lifetaker (http://www.xbox360achievements.org/game/vanquish/achievement/46065-A-Heartbreaker-and-Lifetaker.html)30 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.png acheivement with it (Destroy 100 enemy robots with melee attacks.)
So far I havent succeeded on getting The Hand of God (http://www.xbox360achievements.org/game/vanquish/achievement/46074-The-Hand-of-God.html)30 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/images/site/gp-g.png (Destroy two Romanovs in a row using only melee attacks.) that way, but I'm still working on it. Problem being, that after u melee an ennemy with the disk laucher, u can see that the disk actually launches away. This may cancel the process of using ONLY melee since it's fired. I'll update my post if I do succeed, but I'm guessing it wont work.
Edit : it defenitly wont work. That, n it seemed on my first playthrough that I couldnt get the acheivement cause one of em always grabbed me at some point n triggered a quick time event. If that cancels the only melee process, it's lame cause the event looks like a kick. If u try to fail the event, u die, whatever the difficulty. I'm doing some more testing.
@trikke
correct me if i'm wrong, but are you adding any content that YOU personally wrote so far? looks to me, that most of it is copied from others(of course with their respective permission), but that doesn't make a good guide...
another point, why are you adding the advertisement text from sega as an introduction for the game? I think you are misunderstanding something there...you should not promote the game, but give a brief introduction like what sort of game it is, relative difficulty to achieve 1000GS, glitched achievements(yeah i know there aren't any here) etc.
by the way, what is your exact progress in the game so far, since you are hiding your achievements...?

Here we have Mr. Pessimism again.
Do you have the slightest idea how many hours I already did put in this guide? I've been playing Vanquish Friday night and the whole Saturday (which unpleased my wife) to get the most of the achievements on it, so I would know what I was talking about. I've spent a good amount of time writing this guide on Sunday. My son was standing next to me trying to catch a bit of my attention to play with him, while I was sitting in the couch with the laptop on my knees writing this stuff. So, to answer your question "I" wrote it myself. For the little amount that was copy-pasted, I asked permission to the poster first, and once I got it, I've set the credits next to it.
Now the SEGA bit. Did you actually read full the road map (which still has to be completed btw)? Haven't you noticed the introduction breakdown? I wanted to try something new. Since it's an introduction, I wanted to introduce people to 1) the story, and 2) the achievement guide, missables, etc (that's why there is written "space reserved for achievement talk + missables + easy 950G challenging 1k". I'm still working on it, one step at a time.
Then privacy settings... Remember the posts in the beginning of this thread (while I was still working on Dead Space Ignition) that some of you guys left (yes, including you -> post #39 (http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/showpost.php?p=3642128&postcount=39) ) calling it epic fail this, and N00b there by someone else, etc... Because of that, I started to get some very unpleasant private messages over live from some. Therefor, I decided to shut the whole system down.
You know, I'm proud of the shape this guide is getting. Especially, because I won't have to be ashamed of stealing someone else's work.
And maybe it didn't help many in the beginning when the game just got released, since a good number of people more or less got around the 800-900G when I still had to start it (remember Europe's release 22nd of October?? The US was already playing it for 3 days!), but I hope this guide will help the future people as I strongly doubt everybody will have forgotten this game next month.

Not sure if this message was meant for me, but I used the "search" button and the only post I found from you in the Vanquish forums, is the one I'm replying to.
The only one allowed to delete your post, is yourself. Or a mod (I believe). Another regular member cannot delete another member's post.
About the tiles... what's wrong with the xbox ones? The x360a tiles haven't been updated. They're still light gray, very unattractive. But once the x360a tiles get updated, I might consider it.

Awesome! Just finished the entire second chapter and got no achievement for it. Now I check the guide and see that you cannot use chapter select.
Seriously, what's up with devs? Look at my list of last played games:
Magic The Gathering - FILLED with bugs.
Left 4 Dead - FILLED with bugs on both DLCs, one achievement currently unobtainable.
Deathspank 2 - game crashing bug with no patch (thanks to the community here there's a workaround)
Comic Jumper - Bought and did not start because it has a unobtainable achievement.
Dead Rising 2 - Bug when you store the save game on your hard drive, playable online due to a workaround (store the save on a pen drive or memory stick)
Seriously, what's up with devs? Are we giving them money so easily now? They are releasing unfinished products to us and not fixing it when bugs are found. I'm getting EXTREMELY pissed with my X-Box, playing on steam is becoming a lot more fun for me over the last few weeks.
Don't take me wrong, I was finding Vanquish an awesome game, but now I'll have to restart the campaign because of some crappy design flaw/decision, whatsoever. God damn, I lost all my upgrades when I loaded a previous chapter, I took no advantage for doing that, and now no achievement.
As a side note, the only 2 games I played over the last month that were extremely polished were Castlevania and Halo Reach.

Agreed, I find nothing wrong with story-related acheivements being acheivable only in normal story mode.
Chapter select for other specific acheivements that would be a pain otherwise if u had to go through the whole game to have a chance (and only one chance per playthrough) at getting them.
Heck if u only play for acheivements and not for fun, why play at all ? U should use that offline exploit that gets u all 1000 points in a instant. Spend over 50 bucks for a game, unlock em all, rince repeat. So u're rich, n u got 200k points ? Congratz ! Seriously... Get a life.

Dead Rising 2 - Bug when you store the save game on your hard drive, playable online due to a workaround (store the save on a pen drive or memory stick)
-so everyone has their saves on Pen drives do they? No.

-that is how it has worked in games for a long, long time. Dude, don't hate the devs for what you think is wrong, there is nothing wrong with that.
No, it's not. I can replay every level of Castlevania and it won't mess my achievements for completing the chapter. I can replay any mission of Halo and it won't make me restart the game again from scratch to get achievements for completing another mission. I can do the same on Gears of War and I could go on and on with the list. If the game has chapter select, it's not supposed to screw with your save and make you restart the entire game.
Also, I take you never tried to play coop on Dead Rising 2 and save the game on the HD instead of a flash memory to see what happens right?
Only because you haven't seen the bug it doesn't mean it does not exist:

You only want the acheivements, may the game be fun or not. Whatever floats ur boat. Now be a man n stop whining about what u choose for urself. I don't know how long you have been playing video games, but it doesn't seem long. Castlevania was released not even a month ago. Games have ALWAYS been like that.
of course I have played Dead Rising 2 in Co-Op and saved to HD, like I do in all my games. Not saying it is not a problem for you, but it's not a game-breaking problem as you put it. It is happening to you and other, not every single person.
I'm outta here, this is way off topic. Seeya.

Edit: guess it sounds harsher than I meant it. My point is just that majority of the guide should be made by the author and not 90% from the community. Of course in depth guides are a different matter.
hope I can solve some misunderstandings.
Indeed it has :) But anyway, moving on...
I dunno, cra, but as for myself I'm too lazy to write a whole guide, although i do wish to contribute. I once wished I could share an easier way for an acheivement. That's the reason I joined x360a a month ago. But who would bother to go through the trouble of changing an old game's guide, just for a tip, that nobody plays anymore anyway ? I asked, got told (by a regular member >>) that i needed to submit the same way people submit whole guides. My only post... until this thread. Yes, I gave up.
With trikke, i have the opportunity to contribute. He can copy-paste me, or "steal" my tips and put them into his own words for all I care. I'm glad he does. And thankfull.
See, we dont have the same approach about making a guide. You do them urself, u get all the (rightfull) credits from them, no questions asked. Now, u need to admit, that trikke's way is much harder because it is much more susceptible to critics, u need strong nerves to stay on track, many would have quit already. He hasnt (so far anyway), and I'd say he deserves all the more credits for it than soloers. It's keeping this thread alive, we're talking and exchanging ideas, he's giving people like me the opportunity to contribute on the fly.
And dont forget, that he's still in the process of writing the guide, that it is sure to be changed further. He can copy-paste a tip for the moment (like he did for the buzzard) and change it later. His introduction might be crude and u might not like it, but like he said, it will change. Wait until it does. Or give him another example. Criticism, everyone can do, we dont need it. Ideas we do.

I didnt think of testing it that way (too late now) but i dont see why u couldnt get the acheivement that way. It is, in fact, triggered AR mode.
As for its duration, it's strange, because I seem to find AR with boost is shorter than AR without. See, playing challenges u get plenty of opportunity to find urself in a difficult position, AR is triggered automatically alot. And I noticed, that if I wanna take cover asap, using boost depletes my AR bar faster (test it, while in auto AR mode, use boost, stop using it, use boost, n pay attention to ur AR bar). And it's understandable, since AR is already being used, that it would go down faster with an action that also uses AR. Problem being, that boost with AR is so much slowed down, I dont see any difference in running speed, I'm not going any faster... So it's a waste of AR to use boost in auto AR mode.
If I were to make a guess, I would say that ur impression that AR with boost is longer would be because it's faster to aim, maybe ? How about u try it with moving forward+A instead of sideways +A ?

Thanks for the advice, everything you said makes sense, it just seemed to last longer because aiming is quicker. I got the achievement using back + A in the end. I think it just depends on the situation and the type of enemy/how much health there is.

But hey u wanna find it even more cool, if possible ? Well, I found a third way to trigger AR mode manually, n this way is epic. Press X to get to cover, push LS forward and press X again, that's how u climb over a cover, right ? BUT THEN hold LT.
TADAAAA secret AR mode, epic move !! Matrix mode !
-cough cough- time to cool down
Edit : Wow it IS mentionned in the game's manual... No one ever reads it rofl
... well, it is mentionned so badly one cannot understand even if he reads it : "while boosting, evading or getting out of cover" (or however it is said in the English manual anyway)

Across other threads, I've been reading posts from people that's better to start on hard first, while others claim the opposite.
A road map is supposed to give you the quickest way to 1k. So, with this game, only 1 playthrough should be enough, but that means starting on hard. That means also that some of you will die a lot, having always to "continue" the game rather than "load last checkpoint". I did my first playthrough on hard. Died a lot, but who didn't? I didn't care about the living legend achievement. And I must say, on some occasion it was good to load last checkpoint as the weapons were improving making it easier to get through some battles.
But of course, everybody can get the living legend on hard if they do the trick by passing through the title screen.
I also do believe, because of the pace of this game, you should enjoy the game as it was designed for and keep the pace up.
I don't think you want to start the game on casual, wander a little around, collect some statues here and there, to make a 2nd playthrough to keep the adrenaline flowing.
These are my thoughts about it...
People who are playing this game for the fun and not for the achievements, maybe I should suggest them to start on casual on step 1.1? ..... I think I just answered my own question: people playing for fun won't care about the road map or the achievements. So, back then to the people who care. What do you think is best to start with? Casual? Or Hard?

Time to make ur last corrections, eh ? I was waiting for this :p lol
As for ur current question...
First, one might want to consider, that in order to unlock the challenges, normal mode is enough (i found a post in another thread confirming this). Edit : nvm, u already knew that.
Secondly, it may be theoritically possible to beat all the acheivements in one playthrough, but let's be realistic, I dont think anyone did, or ever will, without using chapter select after beating the game. I say this specially because going for the Pangloss statues using chapter select is nothing short of playing the whole game again... U might as well consider it as a second playthrough. If done in the first, well, it just ruins the fun, imo, to look at the Pangloss videos, it's too big a spoiler, too much pausing the game, too much going back to title screen with living legend (on hard mode) and other failed chapter-specific acheivements (and u would need to get the statues again, since any progress is lost).
Thirdly, without a proper road map telling u exactly in which order the acheivements can be unlocked, it's very easy to forget one (or a statue), u get to the next checkpoint too fast and u're screwed (u dont know where the checkpoints are the first time u play). To be sure to avoid that u'd need to constantly save ur progress on a memory stick.
All in all, doing it in a single playthrough is even more time consuming than in 2.
Imo the first should be done in hard mode, going for living legend and completed acts acheivements, without bothering for other acheivements, or it would ruin the fun and take more time than u would need otherwise ; and the second on casual for the statues (be it a new game or chapter select, it still is a second playthrough). If u miss a statue because of a checkpoint, chapter select is ur friend. The game is fast, a second run on casual is like a blitzkrieg.
Now I'd like to get ur attention on other things, since it's time to polish ur guide.
One Day at DARPA (http://www.xbox360achievements.org/game/vanquish/achievement/46047-One-Day-at-DARPA.html)
"Elena will ask you to use your (RS)"
It's about time u use x360a's smileys to replace written text for the controller's presses like :rs:
King of the Hill (http://www.xbox360achievements.org/game/vanquish/achievement/46061-King-of-the-Hill.html) (Level a weapon up to maximum operational capability.)
I got all weapons fully upgraded even while going for Living Legend (without reloading checkpoints to keep upgrades). When u find a weapon that u have already but that u're currently using (u dont have full ammo on it), instead of picking the weapon to replenish ur ammo, drop ur weapon by picking up another weapon nearby that u dont have in ur inventory. 2 identical weapons are now on the floor, except that one is full of ammo, while the other one isnt (the one u just dropped). Pick up the full ammo one first, then the other one. That way u get to replenish ur ammo AND its upgrade.
Edit : u cant do this if ur weapon has NO ammo left, it disappears when u drop it.
40 Yard Dash (http://www.xbox360achievements.org/game/vanquish/achievement/46069-40-Yard-Dash.html)
"Once this meter is almost fully depleted, let go the LB and the achievement should be yours. If the power meter becomes red, it means your ARS has become overheated and will need a moment of cooldown."
Not very clear. U mean : "If the power meter becomes red, it means you hold LB too long and your ARS is overheated. You will need a moment of cooldown before u can try again."
The Hand of God (http://www.xbox360achievements.org/game/vanquish/achievement/46074-The-Hand-of-God.html) (Destroy two Romanovs in a row using only melee attacks.)
U might wanna specify that u CANNOT use the disk laucher since the disk is fired away at the end of the melee.
Edit : But u can let it grab u for QTE, it's a kick, it IS considered as a melee (I just checked, finally got this acheivement after many tries with the disk launcher.)
Best and fastest way is to melee while dashing towards it. It's the second most powerfull melee hit (u only need 2 of these on casual to kill a romanov), AND the romanov gets blown away at the other side of the area (AND it's more fun that way xD).
Edit : second most powerfull. For a one-hit melee, select the shotgun, use an emp on the romanov, then hold B all the way. kewl !
Edit 2 : wow, u learn so many things watching videos, seriously... with the assault rifle equipped, tap B repeatedly in one fell swoop... beats the other 2 above in easyness AND epicness. This game has hidden awsomenesses !!
Flash! King of the Impossible (http://www.xbox360achievements.org/game/vanquish/achievement/46080-Flash--King-of-the-Impossible.html)
"I found that having this weapon upgraded a couple of times, shooting more homing missiles."
That sentence is not complete.
Failure Breeds Success (http://www.xbox360achievements.org/game/vanquish/achievement/46083-Failure-Breeds-Success.html)
"So, focus on the two-legged Argus first. Since it already transformed into its second phase, it'll be permanently gone once you've destroyed it. As usual, shoot at weak spots on the arms and the legs (yellow glow), not to forget the core when it's exposed! Then focus on the four-legged one (this order is only to make it easier, but you can start with whatever Argus you like)."
The 2-legged argus robot isnt even paying attention to u if u dont mess with it, whereas the 4-legged one keeps shooting his annoying cannon on you even if u go hide at the other side of the area. Get that one first imo.
"When taking care of the four-legged one, shoot its weak spots and core. Eventually, you will see an animation of Sam running towards the Argus engaging an action button sequence."
I had a hard time getting the acheivement even when I knew how to do it. It's not "eventually" but "the moment u kill it, the QTE has a chance to occur". I destroyed all his weak spots and killed it, no QTE. So I reloaded and I played hide and seek for hours with him (the 2-legged argus never paid any attention to me) after I destroyed all his weak spots, thinking I should let him live to have a chance at the QTE... no QTE until I killed it when I got tired of it. So I got the acheivement. BUT next playthrough I didnt care so I finished it BEFORE destroying all weak spots... and I got the QTE. So it occurs randomly when u finish him off, regardless of weak spots.
Leibniz Defense Agency (http://www.xbox360achievements.org/game/vanquish/achievement/46084-Leibniz-Defense-Agency.html) (Defend the Pangloss statue in Act 3-2.)
On casual difficulty, 3 rockets at the tank are enough, no need to hit his weak spot, no need for an emp (just dont wait for rockets to lock on)
Buzzard Beater (http://www.xbox360achievements.org/game/vanquish/achievement/46091-Buzzard-Beater.html) (Destroy the Buzzard without allowing it to reach ground level in Act 5-1.)

Living Legend (http://www.xbox360achievements.org/game/vanquish/achievement/46095-Living-Legend.html)
If u dont wanna feel like a cheater by going back to title screen, or if u messed up and didnt go to title screen in time, choose "restart" instead of "checkpoint". Restart brings you back at the start of the chapter instead of the last checkpoint, and u will lose whatever weapon upgrades u got since u started that chapter (only), BUT unlike checkpoint, it does not count it as a death. That's how I got my living legend anyway (was on casual, that method would have been a pain on hard). I suppose that was the way the acheivement was meant to be obtained by the devs.
Tactical Challenges (http://www.xbox360achievements.org/game/vanquish/achievement/46096-Secret-Achievement.html)
Note : they are set in normal mode (it can be checked by going in the options after pressing start during a challenge), whatever difficulty u last played the campaign.
Good luck, cause it's friggin hard, even on normal. Couldnt have done the 5 challenges without Unr3quit3d's guide, but nothing really helps me for the 6th... I'm friggin stuck. Videos requested, plz.
There u go. Oh, and if u could add the stuff u dont get to know in the tutorial, would be a nice add to a guide imo. Things people dont know about and would love to. Like the different special melee hits (the assault rifle's flurry of punches, or the shotgun's charge). And the 3rd way to activate AR mode, only blurringly mentionned in the manual.
Note: I bet everyone forgot about it after playing the game, but the guy from the tutorial was professor Candide.
Edit : OMFG there's a 4th hidden AR mode ! Melee while dashing, then hold LT after the clash. Another matrix uber epic move !! Gotta love youtube lol... and Vanquish ofc xD

Well, I started with normal, and now i'm doing the last on hard mode. I'm saving the challenges untill i'm done with that. I just used mission select to get anything missing.
I just boosted my weapons on the first Argus robot. I won't have to worry much about that now.
Trikke, in order to learn the game and enjoy it, let's say to play on normal first, than hard. casual is for real newbies to consoles and for anyone who played some games already.

Yes, it is indeed time to make the final corrections. I wanted to have the outline of the guide first, then work my way around the details.
The buttons will be added at the very end.
There are some achievement descriptions that need other "wording" as well, to use proper English.

Didn't read every page so sorry if somebody mentioned this but for Buzzard Beater, it only takes one EMP grenade on casual. Actually, I don't know if you'd even need to throw one at all since the Buzzard goes down so fast once you get on the mounted gun.

"(test: after statue, what if title screen? statue kept?)"
No way, with using title screen, nothing is saved, NOTHING at all game-related (I mean : beside unlocked acheivements ofc). U need to get to the next checkpoint to have them saved and reckognized as found. Otherwise, only the statues previous to the last checkpoint u went through are kept.
Let's make it clear once and for all : using title screen is a way to PREVENT the game from saving ANYTHING. It's like a gift from the devs to people who turn off their xbox (or PS3) or exit to dashboard forcefully for that particular reason : to prevent the game from saving.
Living Legend (http://www.xbox360achievements.org/game/vanquish/achievement/46095-Living-Legend.html)
"(test: weapons downgrade on death, random, all? per mission?)"
Same thing. Checkpoint can keep ur stuff untouched because the game has been saved (with 1 more death count) after u died. Title screen is a downgrade per checkpoint because nothing has been saved and it's like u never played anything after ur last checkpoint (including statues). Restart is a downgrade per chapter (and not per mission), it's a reset (death count included) but statues are kept (all of them if u died, only up to last checkpoint if u didnt <== the ONLY thing I'm not 100% sure)
Consider it like the game saves ur progress with 3 slots, first one with how u started ur last chapter, second one with ur current progress (last checkpoint), and third one with ur statues. First slot isnt overwritten unless u begin a new chapter, second/third are overwritten/updated at every checkpoint and death. And using restart resets ur 2nd slot with the first (=copies the first into the second) (and maybe, MAYBE, updates the statues in the 3rd slot as well even if u didnt die ; it depends if the devs thought about this particular case), so it's a chapter reset (but statues are kept). Nothing is random.
"then select restart. This will reset your deaths to zero"
Wrong, if u already had deaths before u even started the chapter, they are still kept. Only those u got during the last chapter are erased. Because it's a chapter reset.
-puff, puff- few, understood, now ? Cause I dunno how I can explain any better... Anyway, this is how the game was dev, and using restart was how living legend was ment to be obtained (I insist :p) : with a chapter reset
Note : U get the statues acheivement even if u dont get to the next checkpoint after ur last statue. It counts as long as it's in the xbox's memory, doesnt have to be saved on drive. BUT if u title screen here and there, the statue... stays yellow, not red.

True. I tested this with backup account yesterday. Went on chapter 2-3 to see when QTE on argus gets activated (it is when you destroy the argus' core). At the beginning on chapter 2-3 is a statue on top of a truck. I shot it, went title screen, no statuesave. Tried again, restart, no statue saved. Shot same statue again, choose checkpoint from menu, no statue saved. BUT, indeed, when you get to the next checkpoint and game autosaves, it is saved and hasn't to be looked for in the future. I thought at first the game did save it in the cache, but it actually saves into saved game. I'll modify description later today.

Alright, I'm not so sure about all the stuff you've put down here.
I did some testing yesterday. All the weapons I was carrying at that time, got downgraded once each time I died on a mission and chose checkpoint (not the ones in the memory).
For example: (playing on normal / hard difficulty only)
I start with the AR and HMG upgraded to 9 stars and die at the beginning on Act 2 Mission 2.
All my weapons get downgraded by a full rank (1 star). So, I reload checkpoint and my AR and HMG are now only 8 stars. If I die again on Act 2 Mission 2, it doesn't downgrade anymore.
Now, let's say I find enough crates to get 8 stars and 2 ^ , or to 9 stars again, and die again still on Act 2 Mission 2, I keep my upgrades.
Then, I manage to get to Act 2 Mission 3 with my AR and HMG back at 9 stars. Well, if I die again, I get downgraded again, but only once.
So, it does affect each mission, not the act (the word "chapter" can be confusing!)
As for the statues. True! All the statues you've find till the next checkpoint (checkpoint = save) are kept. So, if you choose title screen or restart after that, you still keep them. No need to do them over again.
About the death count, this I found yesterday: if you die on Act 2 Mission 2, and choose checkpoint, you're death has been registered. As long as you keep chosing "checkpoint", all the deaths add up. Then, if you choose "restart", you start again at the very beginning of Act 2 Mission 2. The deaths are reset to zero. All your weapons and ammo are reset to when you started the Mission for the 1st time (so if you die again, you get downgraded weapons as well).
If you then manage to get to the end of Act 2 Mission 2 without any deaths (although you had some before chosing "restart"), you will see a death count of zero!

Casual difficulty : A Romanov will die before u have a chance to destroy all his arms and legs, BUT u only need to destroy ONE leg (as long as it's crawling on the ground) before u melee it (it should only have a very small amount of life left at this point) to get the acheivement.
Note : I got the acheivement with a single leg, but I dont know if one arm is enough, or if u need to disable both of its firing ability.
No matter what difficulty i'm on, when i shoot the legs, the thing falls then explodes.
I dont have the option of individually targeting the legs so i'm wondering if i'm shooting the wrong enemies. Is it the 2 legged grey ones that have a red alien controlling it from the cockpit?

Wow I didnt ever notice any such downgrade. Well, I never used checkpoint... But jeez the devs must've been smoking or something, why make it so complicated for no reason ? I hope u follow, because right now I'm lost (I need sleep !)
About the death count, this I found yesterday: if you die on Act 2 Mission 2, and choose checkpoint, you're death has been registered. As long as you keep chosing "checkpoint", all the deaths add up. If you then manage to get to the end of Act 2 Mission 2 without any deaths (although you had some before chosing "restart"), you will see a death count of zero!
That still does not prove that what I said was wrong about death count.
Let's say you die like 13 times during act 2 mission 2 using "checkpoint"
U go on playing and die 7 times during act 2 mission 3 using "checkpoint".
At the end of mission 3 the score screen will show :
death count 7, total death count 20.
Now, if u at ur 7th death on mission 3 u chose "restart" and dont die again afterwards, ur score screen will show :
death count 0, total death count 13.
It is NOT reset to zero, only ur last mission is. Living legend fails, it's the total that counts.
Is it the 2 legged grey ones that have a red alien controlling it from the cockpit?

Will have to rewrite the description a bit. I noticed you've destroyed other cannons than I did and got the achievement.
What I did, was boosting all the way to the sandbags in front of the romanovs. All the cannons on top were gone, and only 2 were left as described in the description, one on the left, and the one behind the romanovs. In fact, it seems you can destroy any cannon, as long as you destroy 2 of them.

Wrong, that's the HMG.
That, n u can list special melee moves :

- shotgun : hold B for supercharged punch
- assault rifle : tap B repeatedly for flurry of punches
- HMG : press B + hold LT to activate AR mode after the kick
- all weapons : boost with LB + press B + hold LT to activate AR mode after the kick.
I dont know if I'm missing any, I still havent tested everything (I'm still busy with trying to beat challenge 6)

First of all, I'd like to thank each and every one who contributed to this guide.
I did some minor corrections here and there, add some more information, used as many videos as available, and I think we made a guide worth being called a 'guide'.
I will leave the guide a couple more days before submitting for approval, so that people still have the chance to give comments, suggestions, corrections or whatsoever.
When the guide will be submitted for approval by the guide team, it will be entirely copy-pasted from this thread. As from that moment, they'll be in charge for the final editing. It's the guide team who will decide if they accept it, and if they do, what goes in and not in the final guide. I'll copy the credits as they are shown here, as I know how it sucks to give a good achievement description and see the author of the guide uses it (and gives credits for it), but aren't shown in the final published version.
As for the achievement difficulty rating, personally I had the feeling it was like 5 on hard difficulty. As for some other achievements that can be gotten on casual auto difficulty, I'd rate it 2/10. The tactical challenges, well... that's another story. There I'd definitely put at 9 or 10.
But there is a difficulty poll, which should give an overall idea about the average score. Most people voted a 7, 8 or 9 in terms of difficulty (towards 1000G).
A few people voted a 1/10 and even 3/10. They really must be good at this game. But these votes cannot be ignored, else a poll would have no use.
So, here we go. As of this date (November 1st, 2010), these are the poll results:
1/10 = 1 vote
2/10 = 0 votes
3/10 = 1 vote
4/10 = 1 vote
5/10 = 6 votes
6/10 = 7 votes
7/10 = 12 votes
8/10 = 9 votes
9/10 = 12 votes
10/10 = 5 votes
Being a total score of 394 divided by 54 votes, resulting in approx. 7.5/10. I think it's a fair score and this will be put in the road map when I submit it to the guide team for approval.
I hope that IF the Guide Team approves this road map, they'll leave the link to the difficulty poll thread as well for future players to consult these.
See you on the next guide.

Can you earn achievements in mission select? and do you lose your weapon upgrades when you do new game on hard after beating it on casual?
mission select: yes you can unlock achievements
you lose all weapon upgrades if you use mission select. if you want to restart the campaign after mission select all your weapons are downgraded as well.
weapon upgrades don't carry over to a new game.

hiiiz all..this is my first post here..and i wish it'd be useful...
1-) Flash! King of the impossible, Trick Shot & Two Birds with one stone
i did all of thess in level (Darkness,1-6) when u face these small crawlers that explode..first use the LFE Gun which u'll find on ur right side and destroy 2 or more in a row to get Two birds with one stone Ach. then get back to the previous checkpoint and open the crates around you in the area till u find a Rocket Launcher and wait till they gather in front of u before they turn red and explode and shoot them using the Rocket Launcher and u'll get Trick Shot Ach...return again to the previous check and open the crates again till u find the Lock-up Laser...wait again till they gather in front of u before they turn red and explode and shoot them using the Lock-up Laser but aim to the middle ot lock on four at once and then u'll get Flash! King of the impossible Ach.
2-) Piece by Piece
To get this achievement, make sure u destroy the head and the back of the HUGE robot..i noticed a strange thing...that the core of the 4-legged phase is the back of the 2-legged phase...and it isn't destroyed after the health bar is done..u must shoot it for 2-3 seconds after the bar is finished and it'll be destroyed and the back will fall down from the robot..
3-) Guardian
i think that this ach. is very easy when u follow the order the enemy vechiles come in from behind the big stone which is like following:
use the left gun turret and aim towards the left of the stone (Ur screen left not the stone left direction which will be ur screen right) and shoot the first vehicle in its turret to destroy it quickly..then aim to the right as the second one will appear..then shoot it also in the turret to quickly finish it...
now we will do the opposite..quickly run to the right gun turret and aim to the right of stone as the third will appear now..shoot it also in the turret to quickly finish it and aim to the left of the stone quickly as the fourth will appear and begin to approach the allied vehicle..finish it then aim towards the huge stone itself as the fifth will break though it..finish it quickly and the ach. will pop-up...

King of the Impossible (http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../game/vanquish/achievement/46080-Flash--King-of-the-Impossible.html)30 http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/site/gp-g.pngOK
Destroy four enemies simultaneously with the Lock-on Laser.
Alright, this one took me several attempts to get. You'll find this weapon for the first time in Act 1-5 (Trust). This weapon shoots 4 homing missiles to the targets you've picked with the laser (http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/misc/rt.png). Another important part for this achievement to succeed, is that you must kill all 4 enemies with one shot. So, hold http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/misc/rt.png and move your http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/misc/rs.png to pick the enemies.
Then, switch to your lock-on laser, press http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/misc/rt.png and start targeting the remaining red robots and chicanes using your http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../images/misc/rs.png, and you should get it. If not, reload last checkpoint, and try again.
Umm yeah not sure how to do quotes or if anyone has pointed this out but with the lock on if you upgrade it you can end up getting 8 lockons about half way through upgrading so it makes it easier also your guides been very helpful thanks

Flash! King of the Impossible
Destroy four enemies simultaneously with the Lock-on Laser.

I got an even easier way of doing Flash! King of the Impossible Achievement, When i was just messing around in the tactical challenges on the first wave, I got it there, you don't even have to be in the campaign and get the achievements. I also got the achievement where you have to kill 10 enemies while they are distracted by cigarettes, you can that when you are on your way to the top of the Kreon. That is how i got that one.

great guide , used it alot
but if you want the Tact.Challenge achievment
you better play the game on hard ... then jump directly to tactical challenges .
i committed a mistake that after i finished my 1st walkthrough on hard , i played the 2nd one on casual auto ( for pangloss and living legend )
so i got used to easy enemies and iam suffering now with harder enemies

Flash! King of the Impossible (http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/../game/vanquish/achievement/46080-Flash--King-of-the-Impossible.html)
This can be gotten very easy on act 1-6, the big jelly fish in the dark tunnel, just get rid of the jelly fish real quick, and then the little spider things are left, lock on with the rockets and kablammo. You are sure to get the achievement to pop. I chose mission 1-5 on casual and continued as you always get the lock on rockets at the start of that mission.

And great guide by the way, really helped. Im still having trouble with flyswatter though. And a shame no co-op on the tactical challenges.

1) Title screen & Continue = registers zero deaths / Checkpoint = registers one death
2) Title screen & Continue = weapons are set to previous settings / Checkpoint = weapons remain upgraded
The second line of the above statement is incorrect, it's vice versa. Exiting to the main menu and selecting "Continue" will avoid the weapons from being downgraded. Using a checkpoint will downgrade them.

I nearly platinumed this on PS3, but last week I sold all my multiplatform PS3 games and sought them out for my 360 I recently bought. Not looking forward to reacquiring some of these achievements haha
