EA servers are currently unavailable? Connection issues.

I've been playing most of the morning with my borther with no problems at all. He got his achievement for 2 hours on a play type, so we went to start a different mode. Now he can't connect to a single game, he just keeps getting the message:

EA servers are currently unavailable.

Anyone know why this is happening? It's obviously not down as I can join games without issue and so can plenty of others.

I had the same thing yesterday. Booted console and it worked fine.
