i love Arcade games on LIVE, but why so many games cost 1200 is ridiculus. It seems like every game coming out is 1200 anymore.

They really should keep every game at 800 so when you purchase a msp card, you can get 2 games. I feel like im getting suckered into buying extra cards all the time because of the left over 400 points.

Im just complaining because it just seems like Arcade games are not cheap and its almost like buying retail after awhile. Especially when you got kids like me. I goto to buy them one 1600 card each and they tell me "no i need two cards for another game also"

Dont flame me too hard, im just venting--thanks

i hate that they are so high as well. i rarely buy microsoft points so i try to get the most out of when i do get them. i usually try to pick out the 400 coin games( like uno) but also what i have noticed is it may be better to buy dlc because the dlc for fifa10 and fifa street were 400each(fifa street i think was cheaper) and provides 250g, more than these 1200arcade games

Totally agree with both of you guys. 1200 ms points is outrageous since that comes to a total of $15. These aren't even long games! You can usually finish them in about 10 hours or less! They most definately need to be more like 400 or 800 ms points.

Yeah, I also once started a thread about that:

And we see - nothing's changed.

yeah and to think you can buy a retail game used thats over a year old for 20 bucks and get longer replay value more than a $15 arcade game. Plus 1000 > 200 lol

What you guys aren't considering is the quality of those games. Consider a game like Shadow Complex. That game is a steal for $15 and is easily on par with a $60 game in terms of quality. And when you look at what the developer's cut of the profits are for the game, they're practically getting ripped off.

Shadow Complex worth 1200? No. Just no. A playthrough doesn't take more than a few hours and getting all achievements is just grinding.

The amount of 1200 point games is way too high with many of them not worth 800 points imo. However, there are several 1200 point games worth the money. Yes, you can get a new, older game for $20 if you wait for the price drop. If I don't feel the game's worth money, I don't buy it and if it comes up as a deal of the week, I'll buy it then.

Easy solution - don't buy them if you truly feel like they aren't worth the extra $5. Do you even try to free demos included with every single XBLA game, or do you just come here to complain first? ;)

That was playful sarcasm, don't be offended! Personally, I've had tons of fun with Monday Night Combat, Trials HD, and Limbo (all excellent games and easily worth $15 IMO). There have been a few XBLA games I haven't been as impressed with, but seeing as I can get 4 of them for the price of one retail game I tend to have plenty of enjoyment for my money. Speaking of retail games, why no thread about how they are all priced at $60 now when they used to be $50? Considering they have added no new features to account for that change and the XBLA games at $15 tend to be better than the ones that cost $10, why is the outrage only pointed at XBLA?

TL;DR: Every XBLA game has a free demo, the quality of XBLA games has increased a ton in the last 2 years, retail games are even more of a rip off these days.

You get what you pay for, honestly. I mean you're not going to see a game like Dig Dug or DOOM at that price range.

If you don't think that Shadow Complex was worth $15 than you are setting your standards way too fucking high.

Totally agree. A few triple A titles being 1200 is fine. They are worth it. But there are so many games coming out at the 1200 point that simply arent worth that much.

I don't think so. Sure the game was fun, it had great graphics and just a few glitches. But still, it ended way too early.

Pretty much all games have demos. You know what you're getting. You can even research.

I have been having to say this way to much lately: Games are more than just a source of gamerscore. If you are looking at a game as just a source of gamerscore, then yes, 1200 MSP is pretty steep. But if you look at it as what it was meant to be, a source of enteratinment and a way to spend a few fun hours, then yes, 1200 MSP could be a good value. Gamerscore is expensive if that is all you are buying.

I am finding myslef like the XBLA games more than retail games at the moment. I don't mind buying a game I am going to enjoy playing for 1200 points.

Tbh i like that they are 1200.
Alot of them are really short games. If it was at 800 and i played the Demo i'd think to myself Why not? Then i'd buy it and get bored within a week. As the price is 1200 I instantly dont bother. So it works pretty well with making me not want to buy the game.
If you cant controll the temptation to buy all the new arcade games that get released then you really need to remove that credit card from your xbox live account.

I only get the game if its really good. i got spare MS points for shadow complex and that turned out really good. I loved Castlevania: SOTN so i would of even brought Castlevania: HOD For 1600!

Whilst agreeing with certain point's made, I have to say that some games are worth 1200MSP due to the effort and time put into them and the gameplay experiance that comes from them.

Gamerscore has nothing to do with price in my opinion as game developers don't make games for achievements, they make them for the gameplay and story etc.

I feel the best priced game out there for all around thing's (Gameplay, idea, length of game, achievements etc) is Marble Blast Ultra. Ton's of levels and leaderboards and a fun little idea. For 400MSP I feel it really is a must have.

On the other hand there are games at 1200MSP such as Castle Crashers, that to the right person that enjoys that type of game will spend countless hours playing it and feel that it is a bargain.

But as I said, I do agree with some things and that being that too many games are over priced and not worth the mark up price and I do find myself waiting for DOTW to offer some arcade games on the cheap due to overpricing.

For XBLA games, 100% of them have demos - it is a requirement :).

Spending $60 towards retail won't get you the same amount of enjoyment and entertainment across the board.
Some games will be complete shit and others will be amazing.

With arcade titles it's the same way and it seems like 1200pts has become somewhat of a standard.
Luckily, we do get sales on select titles so I would just wait on something I really don't feel is worth my $15.

If the game is worth the $15, then why is that a problem? If its not, then don't buy it. Simple. And this wasn't a gs per $ thread, so I don't know why so many people are mentioning it.

Lets take the summer of arcade games into account

all 15 bucks each

I think 4 of them are totally worth it

Lara croft
limbo
MNC
Castlevania

(hydro thunder maybe should have been 10, but I get the points back)

I think if the game is high quality 15 is totally acceptable, I mean I could have spent it on a ridiculous 15 dollar mw2 map pack instead...so knowing that 15 is amazing in retrospect

1200 price sucks. I know some of them are really worth the price like MvC2 or Shadow Complex, but most of them are not worth the 1200 price tag.

they can be expensive that's y I don't usually buy them... and for gamerscore wise (b4 DLC) u get more for retail game 1000gs than u can for $60 worth of 1200MSP arcade games (800gs)

DarkCreations
08-22-2010, 10:18 PM
With the Summer of Arcade titles, i think games like Shadow Complex, 'Splosion Man (800 MSP?)and MNC are totally worth their original price, but maybe Limbo was stretching it a little bit.

If you don't want to pay 1200MSP, then just wait... it will eventually go on sale in a few months at least anyway. If you can't wait for the game then you have 2 options, get it for full price or don't get it at all (because you obviously don't care much for it).

Simples?

IMO... They should lower the MSP for every game to about 400 or 600... 1200 is steep and not everyone has the money for them...

i love Arcade games on LIVE, but why so many games cost 1200 is ridiculous.

I had so many other posts quoted...that it was maddening, so I'll some up my thoughts without them. While i'll gladly pay 1200 for a fun game, I think I like True I Skill's comment that he instantly avoids them at 1200. Sounds sort of cavalier but he knows he isn't forced to buy anything, he doesn't like the price so he passes.

You're really not getting suckered into buying another card, it isn't that hard to not buy two. Plus, you can buy points straight from your Xbox (in even amounts--400,800, etc.) and their are tons of games priced at 400 and 800 points as well. Odd priced things can ruin your points total, yes, but otherwise you have the full ability to buy a points card, leave 400 points in there, and have countless ways of "evening it out".

You have the power...

Yeah, I also once started a thread about that
And we see - nothing's changed.

Did you think it would??

Sorry your post was constructed terribly & hard to understand.

Consumers have the right to complain if they find a product too expensive so i was loling at all the fanboys up in arms defending bullshit business tactics like making cards 2100 & selling games for 1200.

Anyway by accusing me of painting with a brush you yourself paint me with a brush calling me a "cheap whiner".

Well done. :rock

I wasn't calling you a cheap whiner, that was what it seemed like you were characterizing people as: fanboys or cheap whiners. It seems that neither of us fully explained our positions well to each other.

And the practice of having 2100 point cards (not sure if that is a phenomenon anywhere, but I will take your word for it) comes down to the exchange rate. In Canada, we have points cards in denominations of 1400 and 2800, since that is what Microsoft deems the exchange rate to be for $20 and $40. I can't comment on how things work on the American market place (or British or..), but I know that is the reason for doing it that way in Canada. I usually have some points left over on every card (beacue look at the number), which usually gets me some Rock Band DLC.

The point I have made several times in many different threads is that consumers have 2 choices, buy it under the circumstances that the retailer has put out, or don't buy it. If enough people refuse to buy it, the retailer may change the circumstances (ie, drop the price or add an incentive), and then you have the choice of buying it under the new circumstances or not.
