Open World or just straight up Mission Based?
BOTH, it has the "Toy Box" mode which is open world, and story mode, which is missions based

Gotcha. Are most of the achievements (collectibles, tasks) within the open world or are they within the missions? Heavily debating if this game is a buy/rent and don't wanna jump the gun.

I got it from GameFly personally, its gonna take a good 20 hours (for me at least) maybe longer to get everything, bout half or more is achievements are open world and the other half is story based
The collecting is a big part of the open world, but I am enojoying it and I dont like collecting type games usually
I havnt even played the story mode yet. Gonna wait until I 100% toy box mode

I'd say half-and-half as well. A lot of them come from Toy Box Mode where quick missions=easy achievements. One toy box mode mission amounts to 75 points (not even hard to do..) another is 40, 25, etc.
And also purchasing Toys from Al's Toy Barn gains you like 10G for each place you buy (Zurg, Lotso's Glen, Sids House).
The Story mode missions give you 10G achievements for completing, as well as achievements within the level (IE: One level is the Buzz Lightyear video game, and you go into Zurgs base and defeat him. So one hidden achievement is make it to Zurg's base without losing all health. Another is in the Day Care Jailbreak, don't ever trip an alarm.) Neither of those are necessarily story-related and are missable unless you either try or are good at it.
Hope this helps. I bought it because I'm a huge fan but whatever you want, I'm sure renting would give you a full experience as well.
