help sata drive problem!!

ok here is the scoop, i just spent 750 dollars on a brand new computer for the details it is

proc: amd 3500+

harddrive: SAMSUNG SpinPoint P Series SP2504C 250GB 7200 RPM 8MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive

mobo: Gigabyte GA-K8NF-9 Socket 939 NVIDIA nForce4 ATX AMD Motherboard

okay i figure thats all you need to know for this problem, well here is my problem

everything runs fine it boots up and everything so i insert my windows xp pro cd , everything is running smooth as i figured, and i formated the drive and then loaded the setup files, as usually the windows setup rebooted the pc and i was waiting for the setup to continue, but to my surprise it just goes into the same windows setup asking if i wanted to install or repair and format etc etc., so i was like hmm wierd so i tried another 6-8 times(thought maybe a string of bad luck :rolleyes: ) well it wasnt, so i was like hmm, so i tried my old windows xp home and same thing happens!!!

could anyone please help!!

That's strange. I've never had that happen. My guess though is that either the hard drive is defective, or possibly the RAM. There are a bunch of different diagnostics you can download, burn to a CD and run to test both. My guess would be you've got bad RAM though. Try contacting tech support of the company that makes your RAM and let them know what's happening. The might be able to help, but if it was me, I'd just RMA both the HDD and RAM (I'm guessing you bought them from Newegg) and you should have new ones back sometime next week.

EDIT: He probably means FAT32 or NTFS. You should be using NTFS anyway, but the format isn't going to cause a problem like that.

after reading your post graf1k i was bummed that i had to return, so i was going downstairs to get info on my ram to call them up!!! i totally forgot i did another reformat and i walk downstairs and it was INSTALLING!!! omg there is nothing to say besides i did that 6 EFFIN TIMES!! but it works!@!!

I would still download and run Memtest86 (http://www.memtest86.com/) just to be sure. Your looking for the .iso version to burn to a CD unless you actually have a floppy drive still.

Windows is really odd like that. Sometimes you have to try installing it 2 or 3 or even 10 times to get it to work. I think it's all that legacy shit personally. I think they are getting rid of that with Vista finally (one good thing about Vista so far).

I'm willing to bet that after he formatted the hard drive and windows installs the first set of files, then reboots, when its rebooting, the BIOS will ask you if you want to boot from the CD and he kept saying YES. If you're doing a fresh install of Windows, the only time that you would boot from the CD would be right after the format. After windows has loaded the files to be used for the installation and restarts, it reads everything from the Hard drive first. Thats why it worked when he walked away. After it reboots, if you don't answer the boot from CD question, it defaults to 'no' and continues to run from the hard drive.

grafik do you know waht is causing this, i installed all my mobo drivers, but my sound wont work, i can use my mic i just cant use sound

Are you using an external soundcard? If so, you want to go into the BIOS and turn off the onboard sound and make sure the external card's drivers are installed.

nope just using the onboard ones all the drivers are installed, it recognizes it, i can talk into my mic just cant hear sound, tried headest and speaker system

What kind of motherboard is it? If it's NForce 4, go and download the newest Nforce4 chipset drivers from either the mobo makers website or Nvidias website. Uninstall the old drivers you have now and then install the new chipset drivers.
