Fishing help

ok so im up to the part in the story where you have to catch shaman fish for yonah, i got the fishing rod and i started fisjing, except whenever i hook a fish they instantly escape without allowing me to reduce thier hp, is this a glitch or something im doing wrong?

It's a bit hard to tell you what you're doing wrong if you don't tell us what you're actually doing. ;)

What you should be doing is to watch the end of the rod. Ignore the little dips and wait until it dips a bit more, but not until you get the violent reaction. This can be the 1st, 2nd or 3rd dip of the rod depending I think on the fish to be caught. Then just pull back on the :ls:, no need to push any buttons, and when your hero moves move the stick towards the same side, which will be opposite to the fish movement, and keep the health bar orange/red, don't let it go yellow.

yeah i just tried moving somewhere else just before checking this thread for responses, turns out for whatever reason you cant fish at the beach by the old man

actually, when he gives you the rod and all, the other beach on the map is beeing marked with an big red X. but to be honest, almost noone notices this on the first time.
i tried like 15 minutes till i finally saw the cross on the map... that moment i felt like an idiot.. :)

The first time I tried to fish I had the fish to about 10% and I had to sneeze! Any other attempt ended with an instant loss of the fish after I hooked it and a very obnoacious response from wiesse! I'll try going to the beach mentioned now!

when i first attempted this i screwed it up like 4-5 times then a funny scene played showing me attemtping it like 200+ time then it showing me getting it and taking it to the old man. suprised no one else has got this scene. i didnt learn to fish until part 2 doing the fisherman gambit quests.

Sorry to do a thread hijack, but I'm having real trouble catching the rusted buckets and clumps for forging, anyone have any suggestions on the best place to fish and what lure to use? Cheers.

Either use salt-water bait in fresh or fresh-water bait in salt. I used sardines in the main village to get the clumps I needed.

Don't worry I also got the scene but sadly I didn't get the scene for like 20 minutes of fishing. But, luckily I finally figured out fishing and have caught all types of fish.

i tried fishing next to the old geezer for 15 minutes before i saw this - then i went to the beach through the cave and caught the fish on the first try. follow the X!

I wish I could say I just spent 15 minutes. More like 30-45 catching junk and loosing the fish until I read this thread. I feel like a total idiot right now.

I was struggling with this for almost an hour last night. The guy tells you to fish on the beach. Well there's sand and f***ing manatees f***ing sunning themselves right there, to me that's a f***ing beach! (F**ing.) So I couldn't understand why I could only catch aquatic plants, buckets and tin cans ("and this book of cliches"). Weiss was worse than useless with his repetitive "help".

Was loving the game up until this point but honestly, this almost made me quit. Hoping I never have to do any fishing again.
