I just want to hear your personal opinions about this...
New York officials are already voicing their disdain for the game and saying the similarities are only cosmetic, reports the Associated Press.
"The mayor does not support any video game where you earn points for injuring or killing police officers," New York mayor Michael Bloomberg said in a statement.
New York police commissioner Raymond Kelly doesn't care where the game is set. "It's despicable to glamorize violence in games like these, regardless of how far-fetched the setting may be," he told the AP.

yeah, you're gonna get this for anywhere the game is set. The name just brings all kinds of shit up.
I also think it's funny the Mexico president of whoever hates GRAW
I'm suprised that game publishers are allowed to release games that feature cars with incorrect safety devices or carbon reducing components. It's a travesty that the virtual environment should suffer a similar fate to our own and I for one think we should outright ban video games that do not have hybrid cars with significantly decreased carbon footprints.

Has any game in the GTA-franchise ever awarded points for killing police officers (or even innocent people at all)?
Last time I played San Andreas and killed "non combatants" all that got me was a wanted level...
I can understand that they are obligated to speak out against games of this nature but would it at least hurt to investigate a bit further?
Wether you're playing GTA, Bully or My Little Pony it's up to the player to decide what he/she want to do, you could kill people but it's in no way a must.
And about glamorizing violence, lets all say it together folks:
It's just a game, pure fiction = not real!
Sure one or two (out of several millions) might get inspired of things in video games, but these people could just as easily been inspired by watching CNN as well.

Dude IDK if you're joking or whatever, but if you're serious I think that's a little crazy. It's just a video game....

There has been a lot of violence against cops here in NYC lately so they may be a bit more touchy than 'normal'.
But MangeM is right. Whenever you killed or injured a cop or killed "non combatants" all that got you was a wanted level. They clearly speak without knowing the franchise... just the potential for violence in the game.

I agree with MangeM completely. I think the problem is that video games don't get credit for being an art form. I'm from NYC so I've been watching movies and TV shows for years that show dark sides of New York, and none of it ever gets complaints. Manhattan has got to be literally the hardest place in the world to commit crimes- we're so high tech here, the people are smart and tough from living here, and there's cops, undercover cops, and psycho civilians everywhere. (So actually it is the perfect place to put the new GTA game!) I always joke that I'm going to export NYC crooks to other states where there's weak security.
But really, what do you expect the mayor to say? He is obligated to make the exact statement that he made. The police union probably even put pressure on him that forced him to say it.

it's been so long since I've played it, but didn't you have to kill the crooked cops in San Andreas? Tenpenny and the white dude in the camaro? That's awarding points for killling cops.

Damn straight I smoked that fucking pig. And even though GTA doesn't have a points system, I gave myself points for doing it anyways!
(Tenpenny was a very corrupt cop and abusive towards Carl, the character that you control in GTA San Andreas.)
I think in GTA III you got money for killing cops, but you also got some for shooting cars and knocking over random stuff. Unless that was an earlier game. The top-down games definately gave money for killing cops.

It would be cool if the 360 version of GTAIV gave you an achievement for offing the mayor.

I think the mayor needs to realize that this is a video game. and it doesnt matter where the game is set. I dont believe just because someone plays a game DOESNT MAKE THEM THINK THEY ARE IN IT!

Yes, you got points for killing cops. Whenever you took a look at your stats you could find your criminal rating and media attention level, both indicators of destruction on your part. Psst: more points for the lawmen.

Too bad for New Yorkers the air got dirty and the sex got clean-if i may steal a line from PointBreak. This is just the latest in a long series of bizarre turns new york city has taken post 9/11 I even heard the cops where handing out tickets to people sitting on milkcrates on the sidewalk!!! beat that L.A. jaywalkers. So i am not surprised by that rant just shows how paranoid the city goverment really is, rather than revel in the fact that it's a bad ass place

This is just stupid. I live in NY and I bet your damn ass it's going to be such a huge thing once this game comes out. You'll be hearing the news and newspapers and watch people start some shit outside of their headquarters which is in NY.
