First went internet searching after seeing the Downloadable Content option on the menu. Some results: http://www.siliconera.com/2010/04/16/nier-staff-working-on-downloadable-content/ I was planing on trading the game for another one out this month but I kinda like it an if the DLC is anygood an Ive sold it thats gonna suck. But while searching for that I found Nier Replicant, seems a PS3 only version in Japan where the "hero" has a new skin and the story is he's of his siter not daughter. Huh why? Two versions. I'm assuming its Japan only. Since at my local game store the Nier game on PS3 was basically just Nier. Thank goodness or I'd have been wrought with indecision >_< Has anyone ported it by anychance? Any major differences? And are you going to wait around for DLC?

It's no big difference. The version we have is called "Nier Gestalt" in Japan. I believe Gestalt is his last name. The difference between the two games is that Replicant features a younger Nier who is looking for the cure for Yonah, his little sister. As you already know, Gestalt has him finding a cure for his daughter.

The reason I believe they did this is because of the Japanese preference. Replicant is aimed at a demographic in Japan that enjoys the tween who cuts their own hair without a mirror and dresses themself in their sleep (i.e. - Vegeta*, any final fantasy character... hell ANY JRPG character). Basically they wanted to approach two different demographics and say "Hey, look at this cool game we have for you!"

Note: I am in no way dissing the JRPG style. I am a fan, but I've always found they way they dress makes independent mentally retarded people look like Versace.

Ah I see that makes a lot of sense. Amuses me too since watching an interview theyd aimed it at an adult audience. I suppose they weren't too confident it would hold up. I actually want to play it but I prefer the father/daughter story, stronger bond type thing aww :)
I know what you mean about the dress, always good to wait an see what monstrosity theyve clothed the hero in next. Although Kaine..wtf o.O

Gestalt is not his name. You will learn what it is during the game. I'm not spoiling though so find out yourself!
