View Full Version : What difficulty should I play on?

The obvious answer since this is an achievement site is to play on the highest so you will unlock all the achievements.
I've been told that normal is the most fun of the difficulty levels since you can get away with more crazy and over the top stuff.
My question is: Should I sacrifice the 70pts and play it on normal? Is normal more fun and does it make the other achievements easier to get?

Play it on normal, its more fun plus its sort of challenging even at the normal difficulty. If you choose to play it on the Hardest difficulty, then you might die alot and it will be frustrating.

I played first on normal and I'd say that it's definitely made hardcore much easier now that I'm on my second story playthrough. However, I'm not usually any good at true hardcore modes and I'm finding this one surprisingly easy in the story missions, but quite a bit harder in general play. For having fun, though, and chasing the other, longer achievements I'd definitely go with normal. It's a lot easier to stay alive when you attract heat.

Im still on my first playthrough, Im playing on hardcore. The missions are easy enough, but exploring military bases etc is really annoying and I die alot.
But I suck at this game a little. I seem to take damage when bullets pass near me, and the enemies first shots at me seem to be reversed (if im shot at from the left, it looks like it came from the right etc) so Im wasting alot of time and health between spotting enemies to kill.
Im thinking of restarting from scratch on an easier difficulty once I complete the game on hardcore.

I'm on my first and probably only playthrough, on hardcore. Missions are easy and for military installations, I suggest you find a base with a chopper like the AH-33 Topachula or Sivirkin 15 Havoc, they have chainguns and rocket launchers. Usually there is one near the stronholds so it's not difficult to find, use it to bring a rain of death and destruction to the military installation you wich to complete, when all have been destroyed you land and get all the remaining crates, be carefull though because ennmies will respawn so having a couple of upgraded guns helps. As long that you are flying beware of incoming ennemy choppers but with rocket launchers and chainguns you shouldn't have too much problem to them down.

Play it on the hardest. This game takes long enough for the 1k, no need to make it even longer.
This game is very fun at first but once the shine wears off and you can see the game for what it really is it gets really really repetitive.

On normal it took me a good 60hrs to reach the 75% and complete everything
And it took me a 11hrs on hardcore to complete the last 2 achievements.
I've regret not to start on hardcore at first . Because I though :
Meh I'll do everything in normal then rush on hardcore for the 7mission.
Well you can't rush just 7 mission , you need to create at least 450 000 chaos in order to unlock the 6th mission (7th follow immediatly after)
But while I was playing I really think about it .. would I really want to do 75% of the game on hardcore?.. I would die more often and it might be more frustrating than anything else.
On my normal playthrought I've enjoy running around military base to get crate and stuff , but on hardcore you can't really run around like that , you die a lot faster.
I think you might risk the chance to play on normal , have fun take it easy.
Then take a solid 12 hours to complete the game on hardcore.
Advantage:
You'll know how to do the mission (where the enemy spawn.)
You'll know which weapons to boost first
Disadvantage :
Another solid 12hours to do chaos
Running around (again) camp to grab crate in order to boost gun.
Tips:
You'll find 2 armor crate on the pillar of each bridge on the highway

My main profile tat has 75% completion is on the difficulty lower than normal, so its really easy.
My second profile is on hardcore, which i only used for getting the 3 difficulty achievements

I completed it on normal, and to be honest, I was getting really annoyed with it by the end.
The only difference I've spotted with Hardcore is that Elites are around from the beginning, I haven't noticed increased enemy damage, it's not like they needed it anyway!
Anyway, I'm trying to get through on Hardcore as quickly as possible, by doing as little as possible to cause the maximum chaos. I've done a few missions now, hopefully i'll manage it lol.

I did it all on hardcore i wish i just did the missions on hardcore then change to easy to get the 75% because its such a drag!

I'm starting on the experienced difficulty. It's not hard yet but I've barely played it so we'll see.

i'd have to recommend Casual on the first playthrough. purely to save time.
it's quite a grind even to get to 75% and the game that you have probably long since learned to love starts to lose some of its shine. so why prolong that any further?
then it turns out Hardcore isn't as hard as expected (i'm two missions in). what with there being less 'heat' at the start of the game, and being more experienced with the game from the first playthrough, the 10-15 hour completion times mentioned on here seem very plausible.

I would also advice to play on normal first, then redo the story missions in hardcore if you want to grind the achievements.
The hardore mode is definitively easier when you did the normal mode first (I remember it take me a few times to beat the three boss at the end, then the final boss on normal, and in hardcore, I beat most of them during the first try).
But I'm not a pure grinder of achievements, so you might disagree with my point of view (I'm the kind of guy who finish a game first, then start looking at the achievements if I found the game quite fun and want to play some more with it).

I have done normal first. It's more fun and you will learn how to make chaos and the specific way to finish missions / faction mission. When you have done the 7 main story missions you can still do the 7 missions again for the 70 G but with your skills at that moment it won't take long...

Question about the easier difficulties.
Do the enemies spawn at the same rate on easier difficulties as they do on Hard mode?
The spawning enemies has been my biggest annoyance with this game. Anytime I blow up ANYTHING, the entire Panauan army comes running.
Is that the same on easy? If not, I may start a new game and complete the achievements for completion that way. Hard mode is tedious.

in the latter stages of the game this is even the case on Casual difficulty - destroy one thing with a Panuan star on it and three helicopters will be attacking you within about 20 seconds.
i played to 75% on Casual, and am currently up to the fourth agency mission on Hardcore and so far Hardcore is much easier than, say, the last third of the game was on Casual. yes, i have to make better use of cover and go for more headshots but solely in terms of what is bothering you i don't think it's worth restarting.

The difference on casual, though, is that you take less damage so it's much easier to survive when you're being overrun by enemies.

IF you wanna have fun then i recommend the lowest difficulty, if you want achievements and a challenge then i recommend the highest difficulty:locked

I reccomend playing through as quickly as possible on hardcore (Not so hard really, just spam evade and you'll be fine) then fire up a playthrough on casual just to muck about in and get the remaining cheevos.

I just started playing this on hardcore as well and it's not that annoying. The only obnoxious part in the game is trying to find that last crate or destructable object for a settlement. I've literally spent hours trying to find one little explosive barrel.
But the game's great so far; a completely new experience.
I'm wondering what to start on too, when my copy arrives. I bought this because I like big open-world games where there is lots of stuff to destroy. For example, really into The Saboteur recently. However, I read this one is a lot more difficult, and though I like going for achievements, I don't want it to ruin the fun of the game. I'm leaning towards normal or causal based on what I'm reading.

I recommend playing on hardcore, actually. I just beat the game last night and it wasn't tough at all with my fully upgraded SMG and Assault Rifle. Basically just search every settlement for resources and the game'll be a breeze. Make use of the grappling hook too; it helps a lot.

I'm thinking normal as I love playing games for 100% fun and not so much going hardcore.

Normal
Hardcore sucks if it comes to achievements. Clearing a military base without dying many times is impossible. Even with vehicles. There is no cover system, no enemy limit, slow heat reduce, enemys throwing choppers at you... It's frustrating..

The easiest first. Then go harder if you want and can. Thats what I do anyway. Haha.

I made 3 saves, First one was normal and i just went through the game for fun and picked up the normal achievements then i went through hardcore mode for that achievement and now i am going through the easy difficulty. Although it is not much of a difference i think for most fun on this game its best to have a save on the most easy setting just for fun, That you go for the 75% on. And then just rush through hardcore. You cant have as much fun if you keep dieing... Although if you are just after achievements then hardcore it is.

Personally I play on the easiest difficulty to get achievements, then play on hardest to get the story achievements.

Normally I wouldn't disagree, but it can be a grind getting to 75% in the first place, I wouldn't want to replay it again. You definitely don't need to get anywhere near 75% just going through the agency missions, but it does make you cause quite a bit of chaos. Just stick this one on hard & do it all in one playthrough.
