I'm buying a Marvel vs Capcom 2 fighting stick soon so I can get back into the fighting games like I used to be, and I'm just wondering, (aside from Street Fighter), what are some must have fighting games for 360 retail and XBLA?
List that I'm buying immediately or already own
-Marvel vs Capcom 2
-Soulcalibur 4
-Soulcalibur XBLA
-Tekken 6

i think most fighting games took a drive at the turn of the next gen consoles.
but some have been ok, just not much

I played Tekken 6 a few times and I thought that it was fantastic! Also, the Scenario Campaign mode in Tekken 6 is really fun, it allows you to wander around an environment, pick up weapons and fight multiple enemies.

Street fighter 4 is awesome but hard for achievements

A lot of people are raving about Blazblue : Calamity trigger maybe you should try that.
DOA 4 is almost as old as the console and has a tendency to combo you to death but it's age might mean it's going cheap so it might be a nice little addition to your flighting collection.
Finally for a wild card why not try Mortal Kombat vs DC it has Batman and fatalities.

Well, seems like a few people that replied didn't read my original post at all. Considering someone recommended Tekken 6 and Street Fighter :/
But so far I have a few that I will check into which are
-Blazblue
-Garou: Mark of Wolves
-King of Fighters XII
Also, to the double poster, MadFrog, yes I own Final Fight: Double Impact, it's not a fighting game, it's a beat-em-up and if you don't own it you probably should immediately. I love it :)

As far as arcade ones that haven't been mentioned there are:
Fatal Fury Special
King of Fighters `98 Ultimate Match
Samurai Showdown II
Street Fighter II Hyper Fighting
Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo HD
Personally from just the trials Samurai Showdown is the only one that I would spend money on and Hyper Fighting seemed off. But anyways I'd recommend at least the trial for SS2 for some old school NeoGeo fighting.

I'm not really into fighting games for the 360. Used to be a huge Street Fighter, and Tekken player, but I guess with the achievement lists, its just a complete turn off.

Achievements turned you off of game series you used to be a big fan of?...
Sounds like somebody needs to set their gaming priorities straight.
I suck ass at fighting games like it's nobody's business, and I won't be able to get 50% of the achievements on any of these games I can almost guarantee. But I do love playing them because it's a blast, and that's what gaming's all about... Not achievements.
Achievements are a sidebar on an article you read as an afterthought. That's how they should be at least, you shouldn't make up your mind about getting a game according to the damn achievements. That's sheer stupidity.

I loved DOA4 all up until I got Xbox Live, then I realized how bad it is online. It's so laggy!
I've always wanted to play VF5 but never got around to it!

Street Fighter 4 for the 360 was a joke, in my mind. Personal opinion though people, no need to flame me. The artwork was terrible, the game play was horrendous, The only cool part of the game was when they incorporated the Anime series into the Single Player mode. I honestly prefer the Sega Street Fighter to this piece of crap.
I'm a big Fighting Game lover so to me I think some of the best games would be Soul Calibur, Dead or Alive, Virtua Fighter, Tekken, BlazeBlue, and even UFC if your into it. Any game in each of these series is amazing, my personal favorites are Soul Calibur 4 and Virtua Fighter 5.
However my ultimate favorite fighting game would have to be Rival Schools for the PS2, Japanese Version. Completely kicks ass! I still play it a few times a week.

I would honestly say MvC2 and (Super) Street Fighter 4 are the only fighting games needed
All the others I felt were below average, SC4 was alright but annoying at times

Soulcalibur and Soulcalibur IV are by far the best imho, then Tekken.
For others, Dead or Alive 4 is CHEAP AS HELL. the AI can kill you by countergrab whoring moves on "Normal"(the easiest difficulty) I had some fun playing it with my mate online(i wouldn't play cross continent though!)
Virtua Fighter 5 is pretty okay, not cheap like DOA anyway. Not that keen on the characters list though, game feels a bit slow to me but that's just my opinion the game is good techically so might be worth a go.
Street Fighter 4 is good but hard! it has too many clone characters though
BlazBlue isa good game but it has a few problems that people don't flag up...12 characters means the game is a bit limited as you see the same characters over an over and some characters feel utterly cheap(Aranoobie, i'm looking at you, Noel is overpowered with her A button attacks(i really like her though), Jin ice whore bag, Nu etc fuck it half the cast......) or useless(Carl for instance, even Rachel feels pretty useless if you're not a master.) The characters are well designed and the 2d art and all that is very good. My friend says he finds the controls can be a bit clunky aswell. Oh and there's some really unfunny humour about tits.
Battle Fantasia has the same problem being only 12 characters but feels more balanced to me. The art for the story mode is pretty sucky. It's okay, but wouldn't pay a lot for it. Oh and 1k on this is practically impossible. oh and there's noone online.

Super Street Fighter IV is the only fighting game you should be thinking about playing right now. Comes out next week and it's only 40 bucks!
UFC is not a fighting game, IMO.
Everything else has bad netcode. (DOA, VF, Tekken, SC4.) I'm not saying SUPER SF4's will be better though, there's just more competition. Which I think scares off the "casual" players. Not to mention the steep learning curve compared to the games mentioned above. Where you can usually just mash buttons and have fun.
If you're playing fighting games for single player then I don't know what to tell you. Of course I play arcade mode too but mainly for practice.
BlazBlue is really good but the sequel is coming out soon enough, so might as well wait for that.
Super Street Fighter II HD Remix and MVC2 share the same netcode I believe and is probably the most lag free.
A couple of SNK games that people mentioned are great too, but mainly if you have an actual person to play with due to no one playing online and bad netcode. Garou:MOTW being my favorite but also KoF 98 Ultimate Match, Samurai Shodown 2, and Fatal Fury Special.
KoF 2002 Unlimited Match and Neo Geo Battle Coliseum are coming to XBLA soon too!
<~~~~~add me if you want to play SSF4. I may host some tournaments and give out a free UNO code or something lol, we'll see. :)
P.S. SHMUPS are perfect for arcade sticks too so you may want to look into those as well.

This is the ONLY must own disc based fighting game on the 360.

I hate fighting games, mainly because of my dreadful control experience with Street Fighter IV. But I guess, since you have a joystick, you could give Super SFIV a try, and Tekken 6 is a brilliant game - I played it for hours in an overseas arcade.

BlazBlue is currently on sale at Gamestop for $20 new so I'm probably gonna pick it up.
Question for those that have played it: Does it work well with a regular 360 controller?

HD Remix
Samurai Shodown 2
King of Fighters XII
Battle Fantasia
Rumble Roses XX(Multi player only)
Battle Fantasia is a great little game, very underrated.
Only other ones I've played on the 360 are:
SFII Hyper Fighting
Garou
King of Fighters 98
Street Fighter IV
Fatal Fury Special
Not a huge fan of any of them to be fair, Garou is WAY overrated, SFII Hyper is not as good as Champion Edition, KoF98 isn't as good as 96, Fatal Fury Special is ok I guess and SFIV is just lame.

I personally thought Mortal Kombat VS. DC Universe was alright. Not amazing but a pretty fun game.
I'm not a huge fighting game fan though so that may be why.
