ok i resized this image that i wanted as my avatar and profile picture to 100 by 100 pixels i used option 2 and browsed for the pic clicked on it and saved changes and it says

This is not a valid image file.

can some1 tell me why it wont work?

The file is not the right format, hence the message saying so.

It needs to be.jpg or .png methinks, they are listed in the avatar menu.

Yes. On a Windows machine just open the file in Paint and save it as a .jpg file. Paint is located under Accessories...
