I'm not the smartest person when it comes to internet and other hookups around the house and so I was looking for a little guidance. I was wondering if it's possible for me to keep my cable internet service while dropping the actual cable television service for satelite. I want to get DirecTV so I can watch NESN which is blacked out in Connecticut for some reason even though we are in the Northeast. I need satelite to get the channel however I want to keep my cable internet because it works great. To make a long story short, is it possible to just pay for Comcast cable internet service without the television service and have DirecTV as my television provider or do you need cable television to get internet service?

Yup. Price will go up though because you are getting a "discount" on your internet service because you have the cable television with them.

You better call DirecTV first to make sure that they aren't going to black you out also. Some sports have "black out clauses" which means that if they don't sell out, the tv broadcast gets blocked out to people who live within "X" miles from stadium. I live in California and almost all of the Oakland Raiders home games get blacked out because they don't sell out and I live inside the black out radius.
By the way, you also need to see how much DirecTV is going to charge you to run new wiring for your satellite dish since your current hook-ups are being used by Comcast.
AOS has a GREAT point...i would check with DirectTV first... i still cant watch my Reds game on Directv FoxSportsOhio, because im not in the right region (regardless that i live in OH, dont get me started on that can of worms)

Thanks for the responses. I know that I can get Red Sox games because a few of my friends have DirecTv and they get the station. I'm just wondering whether or not I can get cable internet with satelite television.
