MY 360 Died on my Birthday

I have only had one unit and it just died 48 hours ago. I can only play my downloaded arcade titles.

Whenever I insert a game disc I get the "dirty disc or insert a 360 game disc" error message.

I asked some of my friends and much to my chagrin I discovered that they had blown through 2-3 units in the last year.

To make a long story short I was curious to know how many members have had to order/purchase replacement units.

I mean I purchased mine at launch and I dont think that 14-15 months of use is a fair trade for $400 US.

What does the board think?

I think you're unlucky man and my heart goes out to you, but isn't there some kind of extended warranty now in place for consoles bought before 1/1/2006? You might find you can get it fixed for free.

Yes there is but its like pulling teeth with Microsoft.

Ewizard is currently going through the procedure and I am right behind him. Thank god I still have my old XBOX to tied me over until I get the 360 fixed.

Ya I messed up my old gamertag and it took over 5 hours of talking with illiterate Indians and a transfer to a Mexican with a slur to figure out somebody hacked my account and deleted it. And that creepy robot guy? Max i think his name is... trying to sell you stuff... he scares me.

Mine just died last night, I get the three red lights of doom. This is the fourth time I have had to send one back. Fortunately, I have more than one, and I just moved the one upstairs to the downstairs setup, but it is still a pain in the ass. I called in to report it (I have the 2 year extended service contract) and was told that a specialist would have to call me back, the service desk wouldn't authorize a return since it was my fourth one. What a freakin' pain...

man I feel bad for everyone whos xbox broke. I'm still on my first one. I dont know anyone who treats their xbox worse than me but then I dont know anyone who's xbox runs better than mine. Its just weird.

What is the towel trick? Is it like a blanket party, only with a 360 ;)

Edit: I feel bad for everyone and their 360's, there seems to be an ultra-high defective rate with these things and it seems like luck that you get a good one. I have only moved mine once and always take my discs out at the end of the day as I found out early that it makes quite a noise if it boots up with the disc in...
