you ask a silly question. ;)

i have not played saints row, but i will go out on a limb here and say GTA will be far superior in every aspect.

is this a serious question?
saints row wasnt even that good. i got bored half way through and i gave it to my friend, hes had it for like 2 months.
nothing will ever beat gta as long as they go in a different direction from that 'gangstuh' shit

That's a bit biased.

Saints Row was the closest to come to GTA and it did it very well and was well executed.

With that being said, it came CLOSE, but it will never be beter. Mind you, I hate, fucking HATE GTA. It's just not my kind of game. That doesnt mean that it wasnt good. It's a very well done and thought out game with good execution and extras. Bit Overrated in my book, but still the best of it's kind.

GTA is the leader of openworld sandbox games. Now I'm not being biased or anything, but nothing will ever come close to the feeling you get when you can do anything as an all around badass as Tommy. Saints Row was an amazing game for its first time. But honestly if GTA was next gen, who do you think would be better. I would take Hot Coffee over Freckle Bitches anyday.

Saints Row copied GTA, but in a good way and implemented some new things that GTA could do with having. I think Saints Row was more like the side missions and story all rolled into one, as it was taking the territory as you were doing the story. It should have had the story seperate, with takeover missions becoming unlocked, when you did enough in the story.

GTA will always be regarded as the standard and so it should be it has lasted over 10 years, not many game franchises can deliver hit after hit for that long.

Saints Row was just way, way, way too much like a one way ticket to wiggadom in my eyes. A good laugh at times, sure, but the whole "pop a cap" thing was so 2002, yo. GTA 4 will probably appeal to me more, but it's still very much a case of "been there, done that".

Although I absolutely love GTA4 right now, I still can't decide if it's even better than Saints Row 1.

So, I will prefer Saints Row 2 more, but GTA4 will still be in my top... 5 games of all time.

Here's what each game does better than the other (just SR1, obviously haven't played SR2):

Saints Row
Character Customization
Car Customization
Side Missions
Driving (Fun Factor, Easiness)
Combat (Regenerating Health, Works Better As A 3PS)
Weapons (Storage, Amount Of Them)
Achievements
Wanted Levels (One For Gangs, One For Cops... Cops Don't Care If You Shoot Gangs)

GTA IV
Driving (Realism)
Graphics
Relationships
Storyline
Combat (Cover System)
Boats, Helicopters, Motorcycles (Note: SR2 Will Have These + Planes)
Wanted Levels (The 'Circle Escaping' Works Great)
Living, Breathing City
AI

Can't touch on Multiplayer at the moment, but SR's was very good... just haven't played GTA4's.

Saint's Rpw 2 will be out by the end of the year. As to which will be better... probably GTA4, but I'll actually play both games before I make my final verdict.

Saint's Row did some nice things, like character customization (at the expense of single player character personality however...), and it's waypoint system was, I believe, largely copied by R* into GTA4. What I didn't like was it's uneven difficulty (did anyone else think the difficulty just spiked way up after a little while?) and requiring you to do sidemissions before you could advance the story. Oh, and the MP community was S**t. Still, I think Saint's Row 2 should be a pretty good game. I'll play it.

Saints Row was a great game. It was very fun and entertaining. If the second is much like the first, then it will be another good one.

But as far as better than GTA? It's tough to call right now. Ask again in August. :)

well i have done both GTA 4 and Saints Row and have to say saints row one was crap online all the glitchers spoilt it not played any ranked on gta yet but online seems fine as far as gta vs saints row 2 ill go with saints row 2 the option of playin the entire story with a friend is cool and the fact that the first one was just a test subject to see if they could get a foothold in that genre sort of says that they will aim please in the new one.

I tried playing the first Saints Row, and couldn't even stomach the idea of spending 10 minutes doing so. I hated the way the characters walked, the way he leans to the side when he's just standing around. That being said, I have no doubt in my mind that GTA IV owns the crown as far as "sand box" games are concerned. I will be very difficult to find any other game top the production values and gameplay prowess of GTA IV.

iono, while i stil think gta is a far superior game and frachise while saints row is just a knock off, they seem to be puttin a lot of work in to make it look good. Planes, more guns and weapons and other stuff. I still think gta is better tho

I don't care what anyone says. To me, Saints Row was one of the best games ever. Good gangs, good humour, and good ragdoll physics. So to me, I think Saints Row 2 will be the ultimate game of all time. But that's just my opinion. After looking at all new screens for SR2, I know for a fact that it will be better than GTA IV.

Saints Row 2 will do a lot that GTA 4 didn't bother to do, but it's still gangsta *shudder* which will make it a bit poo, but it could still compete with GTA imo, I think R* thinks so too, as they did nick things that SR did (but SR did nick from San Andreas, like almost the entire game).

I think it will be close, I like the idea that SR2 will bring alot of things that R* could have brought to the table in 4 and just were to lazy to do so. I think it will be fun to return to stillwater. I don't get all this hate for the "ghetto" and stuff tho, I think that just a bit...well I won't say the word but people like certain things and not other things I guess.

This question is dumb based on asking for a preference between an overrated and overhyped game every reviewer gave 10s to a game not even scheduled to be released for several months. How do you prefer a game nobody has played? You'd be retarded to choose SR2.

I do have high hopes for it though. I preferred SR1 (as well as GTA:SA) over GTA4, so we'll see how SR2 is, and then maybe this question can be asked.

I'll probably end up sticking with GTA IV multiplayer even though I'm wanting Saint's Row 2 and curious as to what they are going to include in the multiplayer.

Saint's Row multiplayer is fairly annoying because I found that it takes awhile to get enough people to play. GTA IV multiplayer I try to not use as much because I have a fear that I'm going to end up failing which might piss off other people.

I think a massive feature that'll put SR2 on top is the co-op. Some weird ass Asian guy with long blonde 90's teen pop star hair was talking about it. Apparently you just jump in and do whatever you want and it isn't separate from Single Player. And if you do something 40 missions ahead of where you are with your friend, when you go back to single player and catch up to that point you have the option to skip those missions as you've already done them.

Plus, it looks like it'll make up for the crazy insane fun we lost with the realism that was in GTA4. Don't get me wrong, I love GTA4 and realism is great but I am super happy we have SR2 to do fun stuff in. You can fly planes, you have hilariously overpowered assault rifles, rockets and C4s, flying in a plane in co-op dropping bombs and shit will just be awesome. It looks a lot more silly (storyline is about some crazy company buying Stilwater and making it into some futuristic paradise... which allows for it to be a completely different map but still Stilwater) but that'll just make it even more fun. Plus, customization for the mother f-ing win!

Segnius
05-26-2008, 01:15 AM
Saints Row 2 for sure. They do have one disadvantage, which is that the single player story might not be as good as in GTA. Instead of writing a story for a character that they invented, they just have to make one all-encompassing story which will fit whatever custom character you choose to make. Despite that, I think SR2 will still be a better single player game due to all the advantages it will have over GTA4, and it pretty much goes without saying that they'll beat out GTA when it comes to multiplayer.

I must put my vote for GTA because Rockstar has perfected this genre for nearly a decade while SR is only relatively fresh with this, however give it time and I believe Volition can get it right.

And a sequel to Saints Row HAS been confirmed.

I think SR2 will turn out to be a better game than GTA4 as they are filling in the parts that GTA4 missed e.g. Planes, character customisation, weapon choice.
I also fell that SR1's storyline was fun and original (although you character doesn't speak) whereas I found GTA4's storyline to be more tedious and repetative. The final thing that wins me over is the promise that SR2 will have full open world co-op similar to that of Crackdown.

Most of the people above are biased and have never played Saints Row two because they just thought it was some gang copy... WRONG Saints Row was a awesum game that had most of the things that the past GTA's and improved on them.

Im not saying GTA is bad because i love it too (and own all of them includeding PSP versions) im just saying Saints Row for the first of the series was excellent i still often wounder how number 2 is going to begin after then cliff hanger of number 1.

Combat in Saints Row was more fun without a targeting system and destoryed GTA's poor boring lets just walk threw the level locking onto enemies and shoot. But (thank god) GTA4 improved on that with an excellent cover system (thank you GoW).

Character Customization
Saint Row clearly without a dought wins this round with its masssive clothes selection and it's choice of you being: Hispanic,Asain,White or Black.

Car Customization
Saints Row wins again with almost every car/truck being available to 'pimp' (the 2-5 that couldnt were police vechicals)
And with GTA's pathetic attempt at doing up cars in SA.

Story
Close but GTA wins for the fact that you get more in depth with you characters and feel more like you care about your beloved Niko.

Weapons:
Saints Row had an excellent system for changing weapons and also around 3 of each type of weapon. GTA is close but i was dissapointed with the lack of choice in GTA4. :(

Side Missions
Both of the games have excellent side missions if that be boosting cars in GTA to insurance fraud in Saints Row. I believe that Saints Row did have more side missions and be that more interesting and fun side missions (what would you perfer running onto a highway to get hit by hundreds of cars for Money or to take out your sometiems annoying friends)

Rewards
Deffiently Saints Row, With it large amount of reward s for compleatly all the side missions (kinda like GTA's Cop/ambo/cab missions) such as a pimp cane shot gun, a series of cars and your very own homies on dial. Thought GTA's were excellent in the previous games i wish to know what happened to them in GTA4.

Multiplayer
Saints Row felt more fun but there screw ups in match making led it too loose to GTA's. Also GTA winning the game types in which to play such as mafia work etc.

My 5cents
Though you may think that i am biased to Saints Row i believe that both the games have there factors in which they are enjoyable. GTA is more of a realistic serious game which Saints Row goes for the fun effect with it's nice colours easy handing controls and it's use of not using a targeting system to make shootin an RPG as simple and lining up you target and blasting away.

Draw!

It is all based on opinions, you can't really say which is better especially because SR2 is due to be released in August later this year and no one have played it yet. However, after playing GTA 4 for weeks, I realized it is not the best game ever as it felt at first. I must say that it did not deserve the 10/10 but neither did San Andreas which I personally think is the best of GTA series. The main thing I didn't like about Saints Row was the fact that it was such a rip-off of San Andreas...well with extra stuff added in for extra fun. San Andreas was great game but so was Saints Row and it's the same thing I'm expecting with GTA IV and SR2. As long as we all have different opinions and choose the sides, there will be no "better" game even when the critics say so. After all they are full of shit, look at GTA IV's 10/10!

Agree totally. I love fishing for achievements but I found most of Saints Row's achievements to be no fun to go after, so I put very little time into it after the story was done. Plus the multiplayer was rather weak, though GTA4's multiplayer isn't anything to really brag about either, to be fair.

Saint's Row 2 is gonna be way more over-the-top with the action and explosions and just all around goofy shit... i think the 2 games may have found their own slightly different voice to speak with... GTA's being realism and drama, which they did VERY well... SR being more hollywood-like action... but look at this way...

the better GTA4 is, the better SR2 has to be to compete, and then the better GTA5 will have to be to top that, etc....

competition is good for us, the gamers, because it drives the market into making better and better games... another example would be what the release of Rock Band did to the Guitar Hero franchise...GH4 looks like it's really going to revolutionize the music game genre, and I'm not sure they would've been compelled to make such an awesome game if Rock Band hadn't been so successful

not sure, soon i think..like this fall, wanted to make sure that the gta4 buzz is mostly put to sleep..But, who knows...we might not see gta 5 for awhile, but we may see a few installments like they put out Vice city after gta 3, & then SA..& then vice city stories, so they may do the same thing..

but seriously, everyone who likes gta4 has got to check out SR2...its gunna have campaign co-op...thats epic...

Sr2 like i said b4 will be a time killer. I won't feel the same about it like gta4. But it'll be epic if gta has more installments wit larger maps and more things to do!
