It is an expansion to the campaign, and the general storyline is after you complete the original campaign, another planet shows up, and you have to defend it. I kept it simple to avoid spoilers, and due to the fact that I don't know much. As towards extra additions: all I know is you can get to level 30 and there are many new items and abilities.

Twenty missions once again star the Blood Ravens, continuing from a savegame or starting with a kitted-out squad. The level cap is raised to thirty and new wargear can be found, including powerful Chaos-tainted items with the risk of "dreadful consequences".

Plus Chaos Marines added to MP, more/new maps and MP options

So if you start a new game with the expansion, I wonder if you can jump right into the expansion or if you'll be forced to complete the Tyranid invasion campaign before you can actually play the new stuff?

I doubt that they will force you to do that.

I'll probably be able to enjoy Chaos Rising a lot, just completed the sale on a new custom computer. My previous desktop couldn't run DoW2 very well.

It's a standalone expansion pack. You can start from the new sections. You do not need the Main DOWII game to play this.

I hope they have a save integration feature where we get to continue on with our squads from the original DoWII... It'd be nice to start the game with level 20s with epic armour and fully upgraded.

If you look at the achievement list , there is alot of info there. Amongst other stuff a free for all mode is coming, also you can corrupt your squad to chaos marines(campaign) . There will also be 2 new hereos in the last stand, and 1000gamerscore added to dow2. So its up to 2000 gamerscore ;O
