i would have to say the departed around 6 guys get killed in about 5-10 mins. very suprising to me and almost to surprising that mad me almost mad how it ended but the first one that i know that almost every important person in th movie gets killed.
I thought the ending of Ultraviolet was quite strange, but it is one of those things that seems really obvious once it has been pointed out.
I love the ending of Nightwatch too, barely anyone in this country has seen it (and is still alive) so I must act as the messanger for the movie. Pick it up on DVD, if you like fantasy novels and a bit of action then you will love it. Plus the DVD comes with either English subtitles or English dubbing, that way you know what is going on =D

Biggest twist probably has to go to The Village.
And before someone says 6th sense- that was so easy to work out lol

I totally agree with you on that one. Also, shouldn't this be moved to Entertainment?!?!

I would have to go with the classic movie Se7en. The ending was just jacked up and something I was not expecting. A quality film though :D

No love for The Prestige?? That ending was sweet. I agree with all Se7en, Smokin' Aces, The Illusionist, Slevin. They were all good endings! Departed wasn't too shabby...

greatest ending ever: The Usual Suspects.
Seven & The Departed are definitely up there for me too...
edit: forgot one: Fight Club. I will not ruin the endings of any of these if you have not seen them, but I highly recommend all of them.

I'm surprised to see so many people list The Departed, but then again I did see Infernal Affairs first so I kind of knew what was going to happen.

Katherine Breillat's Fat Girl- nothing will top that. See it if you have the stomach for it.
Unsurprising ending- Titanic

Nightwatch was a great movie with a good ending. The books are even better though, unfortunately most of you can't read them because they are in Russian.

If your going by last year, then it's a tie between The Departed and The Prestige. But of all time....it's of course, The Sixth Sense. What else could you even pick?

I don't really want to say it, but I don't think I can tell people to see the movie in any other manner. Just watch The Usual Suspects, m'kay?

Derailed had a good twist. First movie in a long time that threw me for a loop.

I agree with all the ones listed here. Derailed was a pretty good movie.
I'm sure everyone has seen Field of Dreams? That movie was pretty good. I liked the ending.
I'd also put Requiem for a dream and Million Dollar Baby would be up there.. especially million dollar baby. Man she just fell and snapped her neck. So messed up. That movie got me really emotional.
I don't remember if it was the ending or not.. or which Godfather it was but the part where Michael got Freto killed.. really messed up.. shocked me. I think it was Godfather 2.

Recently...The Illusionist and The Prestige. Both great movies.
Employee Of The Month(not the Dane Cook one) had a pretty crazy ending as well.
Fight Club was great too. The original Saw's was pretty good, then it got played out with the stupid shock endings.

What the hell is that supposed to mean? Is it supposed to be some sort of lame insult, because a movie suprised me?

I think Memento caught me off guard pretty well. I kind of knew what to expect from the Departed (I didn't see Infernal Affairs, but I have seen many Scorsese films, so I guessed everyone was going to die), but I didn't think
*SPOILER ALERT*
Leo was going to get killed.

Go rent/buy Unknown with Greg Kinnear, Jim Caviezel, and Bridget Moynahan. I still don't get it. I know that there was something going on but the thing that gets me is I don't know what, exactly. I don't think you can either, I think it's supposed to just fuck with your mind.

Sixth Sense, Fight Club, Prestige. I saw sixth sense and fight club a couple years after they came out and noone had ruined it for me.

Off the top of my head I'm going to have to say Crank. I mean it's one of those endings you think to yourself will most likely happen, but at the same time going off of how most movies end you don't entirely expect it.
I'm sure if I were to think long and hard I can think of a movie that really hit me like a bus with a surprise ending. :woop:

Definitely the first Saw film, the third had a good idea- but was expected as all three have had shock endings with that theme song Hello Zepp.
The first time I heard that track and saw Jigsaw get up off the floor sent ripples down my spine :p

I would like to add the Skelton Key. That was one of the biggest surprise ending that I ever saw in a movie. But the village, sixth sense and seven were all good endings also.

The Departed and Prites 2, what happened to Jack Sparrow made me jump from my seat in shock, The Return of the King had a great ending, and once i see it , i will confirm on what ign.com said on spiderman 3's ending being really great.

The only one really sticks out in my head is Sixth Sense
i remember talking to my friend towards the end and we said man this movie is garbage. Then they hit us with the ending and it changed like damn what a great movie.
Off the top of my head i cant think of a movie where the ending played such a major factor for me
