Yeah, saw this on a different forum and thought it was interesting.

From what police in Hampton Bays (http://javascript%3Cb%3E%3C/b%3E:siteSearch%28%27Hampton%20Bays%27%29;), N.Y., can determine, the 70-year-old was sitting alone watching TV in his two-story home when he died.
That was more than a year ago, and when workers were summoned to his house last week after a report that freezing temperatures had caused the home's pipes to burst, they found Ricardo's mummified body still sitting on the couch, the TV still on.
A neighbor of Ricardo's, Deanna Devon, was shocked that no one discovered him sooner.
"He was blind and he used to wander into the street. I used to worry he would get hit," she told FOXNews.com.
Vinnie was often seen walking in the streets with his cane, Devon said.
Ricardo had been stricken blind in his 50s and suffered from diabetes.
He apparently died of natural causes, according to Dr. Stuart Dawson, Suffolk County (http://javascript%3Cb%3E%3C/b%3E:siteSearch%28%27Suffolk%20County%27%29;) deputy chief medical examiner.

Due to the dry air in his house, Ricardo's body was well-preserved, leaving his features and hair intact.
"You could see his face. He still had hair on his head," morgue assistant Jeff Bacchus told Newsday. "I've been on the job 35 years, and I've never seen anyone dead that long."
"Vinnie had people who came to help take care of him, so I don’t understand this," Devon said.
Hampton Bays is a small hamlet of 12,200 people on the eastern end of Long Island. Town detectives handling the case did not return phone calls Saturday.
Ricardo was widowed years ago and had lived alone since then, Newsday reported. The house was set in the woods far back from the road, according to neighbors, which made it difficult to observe Ricardo's actions.
"He hasn't been heard from in over a year. That's the part that baffles me," Dawson said. "Nobody sounded the alarm."
"We heard he had family somewhere nearby, but he was estranged from them," Devon added.
Neighbor April Cowden told the paper that she used to help Ricardo by reading his mail to him, paying his bills and buying his groceries. But in the summer of 2005, he began to demand more of her time, and when she couldn't comply, they had a falling out.
"I needed to go to work [one day] and he wanted me to stay," Cowden, 37, told Newsday.
About a month later, Cowden said, she saw an ambulance at his house. Later, when she saw the mail begin to pile up, Cowden thought he was in the hospital.
Authorities are at a loss as to how the electricity remained on in Ricardo's home all this time. Attempts to reach the Long Island Power Authority were unsuccessful Saturday.
"Something just seems really strange about all this. There are so many little things that don't make sense," Devon said.
"I didn’t really know him very well, but apparently nobody did."

I figured the reason why his TV was still on was probably he had his bills set up to pay automatically each month. Pretty weird story in my opinion. What do you guys think about it?

If the power went out even once wouldn't his TV shut off? I know mine doesn't turn on automatically after a power outage. Didn't have like maggots and crap eating him after a year? Weird.

yeah he had hair, but i doubt he had much else left... definitely a horrible stench and sight to find i bet.

kind of funny, yet sad that no one cared about him enough to check on him ever... or at least family that would call or something.

Wow. I heard about this two days ago. Man is that a gnarly way to be found dead. And the dry air in his house preserved him. That's sick. They should put him in a museum

Hm.. I have a few questions. How did they know he was dead for a year? I read the story, but I didn't really find anything on that. And also, why would a blind man watch TV? Guess he was just listening to it.. Which is weird.

Stories just get weirder and weirder.

Blind people watch TV, my grandpa is blind and he always has the TV on. But if a football game is on he'll have the TV and the radio on to get all the deatils.

what really has been bothering me that no one even thought of looking for him. They said that he goes into the street a lot. One would think of not seeing him for like a week, you would go look for him

WHAT THE FUCK WAS A BLIND MAN DOING WATCHING TV?!

That's so illogical I bet God himself struck the guy down.

God: "Dude, you're blind. WTF."

Blind Guy: "I can still listen n00b".

God: "Pfft, the fuck outta here!"

*Lightning Bolt*

God: "Got yo dumb ass!"

I bet that's how it went down...

Kind of wierd that no one went to his house because he didn't pay the electric bill for a year. Bet the moudly food in his fridge smelt more than him.

woow whether you guys like it or not BLIND PEOPLE WATCH TV and just because he was legally blind doesnt mean he has absolutely no vision. And since it would be difficult for him to pay his bills he could have had someone he trusted do them for him.

Yeah but it's still weird to hear that someone who is blind is watching tv. Your whole life you are taught that blind people can't see, so what's the point of watching? Hearing yes, watching no. I remember reading a story like this a while back that said the reason no one noticed was they had all there bills deducted automatically from there accounts every month. All I can say is I hope this doesn't happen to me!

Fuck that, that's like deaf people listening to the radio. Not everybody is Bethoven.

If I we're blind, I'd fucking learn how to play piano, that seems to have a high success rate.

He had no friends or family and he was blind. The noise from the TV probably comforted him. As for a piano, how could he go to the local music shop if he were blind? Since he doesn't have any friends/family/contacts how would someone else buy him a piano?....Being in the dark all the time there is no comfort of seeing someone else so his only option was to have sound. If he knew people then he could have the comfort of touch.....but he doesn't. Considering all of this what the fuck would you guys do? Please think before answering the question...
