Killatreaks for more killstreaks?

How come sometimes when I through a turret up and it gets me 4 kills, I can call in a Pave Low, and then the next game i'll do the exact same thing and it won't count towards my other killstreaks? Is there any pattern to this at all?

Remember if you die, your kill streak is reset. Perhaps this is the trouble?

I think it depends on the kill streak you use, at least three times last night i dropped my sentry gun for a five kill streak and then got my chopper without even pulling the trigger. But when i got a chopper gunner from a random care package and got 11+ kills with it my streak count didn't go up. I suspect that the random ones from care packages don't count but your own earned ones do maybe?
