View Full Version : How much do you exercise?

Okay, so this was inspired by the whole Muffintop post (http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/showthread.php?t=18885), just because lots of guys are overweight as well.
How many hours a week do you exercise? Totemball (http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/forumdisplay.php?s=&daysprune=&f=386) doesn't count, and since this is a site for the Xbox 360, Wii usage also doesn't count. Sex does if you are energetic about it, but for most guys that is only what, twenty minutes tops? Less for the youngsters...heh.
Seriously, do you have a regular exercise routine? Organized sports? Anything to burn the calories you get from drinking whilst playing Big Bumpin' (http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/forumdisplay.php?s=&daysprune=&f=412)? (heh...that has to be the most sexual x360 title out there!)
I like to think I'm active and lazy all at the same time.
I really only play cricket at current time in the summer, but when I settle down somewhere, I hope to carry on with the amazing world sport that is football ;)
I run a bit occassionally, dependent on the weather, if it's warm, I run more... Bizarre, I know.
And as for sex, well, I'm pretty active in that department, although sometimes, I do regret that :( Like Saturday morning! :biglaugh

I work out about 2-3x/wk. depending on how many times I can get my wife to let me out of the house. I usually do 30 mins on the Elliptical and 1 hr. lifting weights.
I am a pretty big guy though at over 6' and 230 lbs. and would be much more if I didn't go to the gym as I like to eat a lot. I am fairly strong too benching over 300 lbs. and squatting almost 500 lbs.
My recommendation for anyone is to balance things out for yourself and find something that you like to do- run, swim, walk, whatever and make sure you stick to it and do it every week, that is the key...

Well mine kinda depends although on avg 4-5 days a week 60+ mins.
But let me explain, because sometimes its a lot more, sometimes it's almost none;
IF my primary job is busy I'm doing very physical work for 6-8 hours a day, 5 days a week, if not then its whatever work is in, avg say 10 hours a week either way.
Sex with GF, not getting into, but enough ;)
Used to goto the gym 30 mins 3-4 times a week, would like to again, but too busy with one thing and another, same goes for Martial Arts and climbing although they were twice a week for 1.5 hours a time.
Other sports weren't done enough to count.

If im playing rugby, then about 10 hours a week.
If im drinking, I walk to the pub
I'm a sofa fiend, I could care less about being super buff as long as there are fatter asses than mine =D
I used to play Squash and Tennis but I can't be bothered playing against random old men now that I am classed as a senior. I do play golf through, although that isn't exactly exercise even if you romp around a links course for a few hours.
I do walk to college and wherever I need to go locally, and stairs...lots of stairs. Seeing as I am off to Uni for the next three years I may attempt to get back to squash, but I won't be going to a gym even if it is full of moist muscly men (not gay).

I get my exercise from riding my bike to work. It's 45-60 mins. every weekday. I smoke and have a healthy apetite, so i don't think it really evens out though. I should take up skateboarding again but i'm getting to old for that fast. It's great exercise, and really fun as well. When i was a teen i would ride my board everywhere, and I haven't been in that good shape for a long time.
I'm still trying to loose the weight i gained in the army 5 year ago. I guess im just to lazy really. :D I'm not really fat but i'm nowhere near fit.
Like Zef said, as long as there are fatter guys around I don't mind much.

I'm active everyday. not 60 mins though, usually 3-5 hours. This hasn't been recently since its winter but the weather is getting nicer...
and that will increase with baseball starting up.

Usually you aren't suppose to workout more then 1 hour to 1 hour and a half a day. I probably workout 6 times a week. So 6-9 hours a week. Mine works out like this:
Monday - Chest, Triceps, Abs
Tuesday - Back, Biceps
Wednesday - Shoulders, Legs, Abs
Rinse and repeat 3 more times in a week. On all those days I do 20 minutes of treadmill. Running around 6mph 20 minutes straight non-stop. I also stretch as much as I can. Atleast 3 times a day. Once before working, once after working out, and another time before I go to sleep. Sunday is my day off. Also, my eating habits are fairly strict too. Exercise is pretty much pointless if you aren't eating right. I also fit in basketball whenever I can.

I do about an 60+ minute workouts 4-5 times a week. In the summer, I do a lot more, since I love to swim. Not in the summer? I do any fighting form. I have done kickboxing, Tae Kwon Doe, Jujitsu, Kenpo, Eskrima, Sumo, Krav Maga, and Fencing, because I think they are fun ways of excercise and can be useful in once-in-a-blue-moon situations.
Also, doing theater work is good excercise, since Drama has a lot to do with movement, and in rehearsel, we repeat the same scene atleast forty times before the audience sees it. Especially in musicals, where we also do choreographed dances- I get good muscles on my legs.
But, most of the time during the week, I am pretty average. I am not muscular. I am not fat. I am in between. So, no bullshit bragging for me about my physique.

Well, I lift during track season, and i stay active during the winter because I walk about a mile of hallways everyday in school, and I run about a half mile home, unless Brain Burner challenges me, in which case I sprint to beat him.
I ski on average 2 days a week or 16 Hours.
Play Soccer 2 Days a week or 5 Hours.
Technically 20 hours a week, is almost like 3 hours a day, but I only do it like 3-4 times a week... So What do I put?
That usually takes up 4 days of my week and 20 hours... I dont exactly have a a nice "Physique" though... lol

I've been really unhealthy for a while. I started smoking cigarettes last summer but quit this month  The only exercise I get is in gym class (high school.) I'm glad I quit smoking though. It was really bothering me when I had gym lol.

take my advice: when you graduate from high school and/or college and get an apartment, make sure a workout room is included. it will save your life. ;)
it is a lot harder to stay active in the winter (especially in Minnesota) without an indoor facility you can use. and when it is a part of your apartment complex, it is free. :)

Yeah... I uh.. Go for about an hour a month. Wouldn't say I'm fat, though. I actually stay fit somehow.
I guess I'm exercising w/o knowing it.
I play football for my school, and I put 2+ hours cuz right now we workout 2 to 2 and a half hours a day (since its the off-season), but during the playing season it goes to 4 or more.

I definitely like staying in shape, I'm an American soccer player (I know I said it...AMERICAN SOCCER PLAYER) lol. Been kickin since birth, but been actually playing for 13 years. I like to do more of the body resistance work outs rather than pumpin iron. I like push ups, pull ups, leg lifts, miles upon miles of running, dips, and blah blah blah. I'd say about 2 hours plus.

For me, it's almost two hours day, sometimes even more. I'm on the school swim team, where I work very hard for two hours either five or six (depending on Saturday practices . . .) days a week. Not to mention, I'm also in aquatics P.E., where I lift on the norm, two days a week for an hour. Yep, pretty intense . . . :p

My work pays for my gym membership and personal training (but they also give us free soda and beer...go figure!) which is kind of a cool benefit. The gym is a couple blocks from work, and I typically start my day out by doing 30 minutes on the elliptical. On days when I am feeling more energetic I will do weights and some of the various cable machines, but that is not very often.
I also do various ab exercises at home in the evenings, a couple times a week.
I am 6'1", 225 pounds, but my trainer said I have around 60 pounds of fat on me. I am not sure I believe that, but I wouldn't mind having less fat around my waist.:p

I work out twice a day and regularly run 8 miles to and from work. Whenever i have ten minutes spare i'll work the weights and eat protein bars made from recycled cardboard and apples. I carry around miniature barbells for moments outside the home or indeed when i'm at the toilet.
In real life however, i smoke, drink, lounge around the house, and rarely walk more than i need to, yet for whatever reason my figure seems to stay the same; 6ft/average build/12 stone ish. After reading this thread it's dawning on me this won't always be the case and i ought to start doing something, so thanks to shaaady's suggestion i'll be sorting out a workout room (or at least a workout space) somewhere in my next place.

The more I have been getting into gaming the less I have been thinking about exercising. Lately, the last hour of work is thinking about what game I am going to work on when I get home, instead of going to the gym. Oh well...hopefully the next guy I date will overlook a few extra pounds for dating a chick gamer!!!

I have a weight training class at my school which is an hour and 30 minutes long, then every weekday I go to the gym with my mom and sister, they exercise and I work out more, then on weekends, the most exercise I get is from walking to a the fridge and back...Unless I have paintball tournaments...

Hmmm I don't exercise as much as I should, or would like to. I'll pin this one on GSL also and the fact that Shady is a whip cracker about meeting the cap :P . Even though I'm still relatively young at 26 years old my body is kind of worn down. I ran track in high school and part of my early college life, now I get a few aches and pains here and there. I just need to get out and work things out though, its all a matter of determination and will.
Avelena, I wouldn't worry about a few extra pounds. If you're interested in a fun game that promotes some exercise and gives you a challenge you should look into DDR games.

I'd say I work out everyday for 30-60 minutes. I use the highbar whenever I can (have one in my backyard), and I'll lift weights. I'm in very good physical shape and everyone knows it. I don't run or anything, but I am probably the fastest kid in my school when I'm not injured. Sports also keep me healthy.

what will really help you get your time down are 30:60's and 60:120's. that means sprint for 30 seconds, walk for a min. do that several or 5 times, and it'l kick your ass the first couple of times doing it. but after you get used to it, you'll have speed and endurance like no other.

Hehe. I do 60:30's. It's been working pretty good for now. 60 second sprint, 30 second jog. It seems to get my time down 3-4 seconds every 2 days or so. I can live with that. Soon, I'll be going to 70:20's and going faster. I'm using a treadmill for now because it's just too cold to run outside half the time.

If you're out of shape, throw in some circuit training for 4 weeks and that should:
A) Make you lose significant amounts of fat
B) Increase Anaerobic Capacity
C) Whip You Into Overall Shape
It's all also not time consuming, and mixed with HIIT or Tabatas and you have yourself a quick snappy workout which is what I'm doing because I hardly have any time. Plus depending on what kind of body you have, you may gain quite a bit of muscle circuit training but again it depends on your genes.
Also, HIIT is cool but I like the evidence Tabatas have. I mentioned this in another one but here's the article:

Something I started incorporating is daily stretching. Having loosened muscles actually will give you more range of motion in your technique and should allow you to become stronger in that sense. Static stretching isn't the only one. Look up some dynamic ones also. Be careful though, don't go to the point of pain in stretching or you'll tear something.

I put a few hours a month because I am going through a terrible transition. I went from a mountain climbing instructor to an office job. A year later, I am formulating a good routine that works for me, despite falling far behind the 7 days a week, 4-10 hours of climbing, hiking, training and overall craziness that I used to do.
I'm hoping in November that I can kick it into full swing and get back into better general shape, because right now, I feel like crap.

Amen to that, I was able to lift myself on the tips of my fingertips easily, most of the times with one finger each hand, but those days are long gone. I'll be happy if I can just get back to 5 regular chin-ups a set.
I tried to take up jogging, and that went well for a few weeks (2 to 3 times a week), but the last time I did it, I got terrible shinsplints (sp?), enough to almost call someone to get me. I'm afraid to start up again because I just can't deal with it again.

I have a nice office job that requires me to sit either at my desk or in meetings all day and I find plenty of ways to exercise. I lift a 12oz piece of liquid filled aluminum about 30 times a day. Sometimes when I'm in the mood for a real workout I up it to a 24oz liquid weighted 24 oz plastic tube.
Also I moved my TV and bookcase clear across the room. And since the remote has legs and walks away, I often have to slide all the way over there in my chair. Sometimes I must use synthetically force to get the chair to go from the hardwood floor to the carpeted area.
Plus every afternoon for an hour while everyone else goes to lunch, I'm stuck in my office lifting a pound of beef, american and provolone.
Office Jobs FTW...
On a serious note I run after four little Dracgons all day from 5p-10p that's exercise enough.

Yea, considering all I'm doing is mixing walking and jogging doing no more than 3.5 miles combined. I don't know how much slower I can go.
It doesn't help that the last time I went hiking before my job was a 16 mile trek, and I usually push myself beyond what my body is capable of. That was the only way to get better at climbing at the time. :)

It doesn't help that the last time I went hiking before my job was a 16 mile trek, and I usually push myself beyond what my body is capable of. That was the only way to get better at climbing at the time. :)
either that or get some different shoes. it's amazing what different shoes will do to your feet, and whole body pretty much. i know when i went through basic training they broke people down by what type of shoes they needed ie comfort, arched, that type of thing.

I work out at least once a week and walk some. Should be doing more, but I didnt do baseball this season. Or basketball or football. :(
I guess paintball counts as exercise hopefully.

I'm on the X-Country team at my school so I get 2 hours of exercise on weekdays. During the Winter I don't do anything. In the Spring it's back to two hours on weekdays for Track. Then in the Summer I work out a few hours a week.

Hmm, I think I'm alright in terms of my workout plan. I do monday, wed, thurs, and sat as martial arts training 2 hours mon-thurs, 1 hour on sat. I do monday, tuesday, thursday, friday, and sunday as weight training, martial arts is my cardio but I wish I would stop being lazy and run around my block like 3 times in the morning, atleast I do my pushups and situps.

I'm on the reserve squad for a semi-pro hockey team so I have practice 4 days a week with the team, plus meeting with my trainer 5 days a week. The other 2 days (usually Fridays, Saturdays, or Sundays) I run at least 5 miles or swim 2. I love being in shape...the rush of exercising is amazing

Well you can't really complain if you aren't taking it easy and working your way up. Anyways, here's this article that should help:

I think your poll is rigged.. I doubt that the majority of people work out for at least an hour 4-5 times a week. Unless that is if you count the guys that say they walk for 15 minutes to and from McDonalds everyday. :p Anyways if it is correct I guess we just have a bunch of fit gamers that manage to make time for silly polls... haha.. Or maybe they just do them at work like me... Keep hittin the pavement.....:Bounce:

My job is extremely physical. One 12-hour shift provides PLENTY of exercise. :Bounce:

I think if most people took an athletic approach to their training, everyone would be a much fitter person. Some people think working out is just a chore and they get thrown on plans that are way too busy and have too many exercises. This is where the athletic approach comes in. Athletes generally train 3-4 times a week and keep the lifting time under 40 minutes. They don't train a million exercises or use machines. They use exercises that give you the most bang for your buck. Have you ever seen an athlete do a leg curl or leg extensions? Nuh-uh. But I'm talking about a proper athletic approach. Not highschool coaches whipping up terrible programs.

well i can honestly say i am extremely lazy, i used to do every ssport possible, but now i dont exercise, like at a gym, BUT i am an exotic dancer, so climbing a thirty foot pole in seven or 8 inch sstilletos and doin pole tricks all night iss more of a work out then i could ever get from any thing else.
haha
i probly should workout cuz it might make me live longer but id rather sit on my ass lol

A trainer actually told me that people shouldn't work out more than an hour and a half a day.
I used to work out a lot more but I became a bit lazy in the last month or two. I'm trying to get going again

Ah hell I chose the wrong thing...
I work out Monday-Thursday from about 7:20-8:30. I don't go to Bally's were it's all "Were gonna workout and everyone is gonna be happy!!!YAY!!!", I go much more hardcore then that. Some of the things I do is liable to make you cry. ;)
