Best Supporting Troops?

I know this game is really easy, so which supporting troops you choose do not matter, but I was wondering if anyone knew who the best ones were?

There are infantry & heavy infantry. Why would anyone pick regular if you could have heavy? Maybe they are slower? Also, what about Archers or Pikeman? I know historically pikemen were used to counter mounted units, but there are not any mounted units (at least not yet).

So, if you have a successful strategy or group you use, let me know...
I know the game is easy without the correct strategy, and just a lot of button mashing but I was just curious....

I always used Heavy Infantry and Archers. The HI's don't really do any damage, but they stay alive longer while the archers pick away.

But you're right, you'll be doing most of the damage anyway, so it won't really matter.

I think I'll rent this for the third time to do the Secret Mission and the Level 9 achievements in a few weeks... such a repetitive game...

Tell me about it. The second time I rented it I got everyone to at least 6, some to 8 and only Aspharr to 9, and that has taken me countless hours of gameplay. That will be my most proud 1000 when I get it done.

i used heavy archers and pikemen because they seem to live the longest. But twords the end i would always put them in a courner so i would get a good % on surviving troops to get an A rank.

I didnt think the lvl 9 acheivment was that bad, at least you kept getting the exp and couldnt lose it.

I never really let them kill anything so it didn't make much difference =P

However, I found that Heavy Infantry and Pikemen last longer than the others so your rating/score doesn't take much of a battering in heated battles. Pikemen can also attack from further away than Heavy Infantry, so they are quite good against enemies whilst not taking a whole lot of damage (like archers will).

I've tried a few and Heavy Infantry + Archers is the best combination.

I like to use heavy infantry then just leave them at the beginning of the game so I will get a good survival rate

This is one of those games that really is painful to get the achievements, not totally enjoyable.

my best team is infantry and heavy infantry but i usually use 2 infantry units

On Topic since its resurrection... I don't use any supporting troops, its more fun that way.

I always chose Heavy Infantry and Archers, but never even gave it a thought of leaving them at the beginning of the lvl. Should help my rank out greatly now, thanks guys

i use archers and just ditch them every time they just get in the way.

now a little off topic, i dont see whats so hard about this game and what makes it so painful, i have all my characters at level 7 just by playing through their story and only had to go back and turn 3 B rank missions into A rank missions and have 2 left castle w/ aspharr and ice gate with myifee ( dont know what happened there ). so i guess maybe people arent that great at this game ?

I've only unlocked the 2 extra characters after beating the first chicks story line, but what i find difficult is trying to pull off the more complex moves without getting knocked around by the mobs.

I mean that blonde spear guy has to go all whirly bird before striking, but in that time he gives anyone and anything a chance to smack him around, which they do.

well i guess i never had that problem but i only did that whirly bird which i think you are talking about xxxyyyy only when i wanted to get a big combo other than that i just did xxxxxxxx because i just wanted to kill the guys and it seems like the y attacks dont do as much damage.
