View Full Version : London, eh? (A rumor that seems almost 100% sure)

So, when I heard the game was going to be in London (A very likely rumor), or the GTA version of it, rather, I was pretty neutral about it. Grand Theft Auto, I can say, is the game that made a gamer out of me. Prior, I was a casual, I liked games, but never dabbled in game websites, forums, etc. So, you can tell GTA games stoak me. San Andreas anticipation? Yeah, I was there. Big time.

But anyway. I am not dissapointed, but I am also not happy. Sure, there are really no other fun places left. They used all the fun places (besides Chicago, but not many people care about Chicago). California, with all its Las Vegas/San Fransisco/Los Angeles glory, Miami, New York- they took up the best.

Now back to London.

I mean, the game would be a lot of fun in Paris (lot of weapons/technologies that could be focused in the storyline) or Russia, but the thing is: Who the fuck wants to besides a few, like me? The whole thing would be complicated. They could either make everyone speak English there (you have to understand them, which would deter from realistic-ness) or they could make it all subtitled (too much reading, not for the ADD'd gamers like us). The cities would be nice looking, though.

But London has its chances. It is a beautiful city, and it would go great with the new graphics (Table Tennis style). I can totally see this sterling newstuff set in London.

So, enough about me, how do you feel about IV in London?

By the by: Who else heard the rumor that CJ/Young Maylay are going to be in IV. I'd rather it not.

Being in london would be dumb, the whole getaway series is in london, i need something new.

I never played Getaway, but from what I hear they are mediocre games. Not horrible, but at the level of the new Spyhunter game.

Meh.

Thing is: WHAT ELSE?

They used California, New York, and Miami.
They REused New York and Miami, and might REuse California.

What else is there?

No jungle- thats just cause's territory.
Space? haha.
i'd like to see it somewhere that actually changes weather to extremes(snow, then hottt summer), so maybe somewhere in asia.

Hehe, I can see it now.

GTA IV: ASIA!

Back to the roots I see. They did London on the second GTA. This is actually GTA VI guess the count started over when the layout of the game changed.

That was exactly what I thought, that London was the second GTA. Back in the days when the game only had, like, twenty cars. No more. And top-down.

Good days. I had my version in Russian. I just ran around and killed people, didn't do the missions because I didn't understand them.

I prefer the approach Rockstar have (nearly) always taken by using fictional cities loosely based on others. Seeing as they have already had a game set in London and that some idiot will get all peeved off (he could be a badger after a fine meal of slug pellets) and say that they are trying to cause terrorism and then blame them for teenage pregnancies.

I don't particularly mind where they set the next one, but as long as it is a good game it won't matter.

I agree with fonkey, London would suck!

Personally, one of my sayings in life, if it's not broke, don't fix it.

I'd be happy with a new environment, new era, improved graphics, better aiming system and more of the same. Keep it in the States too ;)

I want them to re-do New York (Liberty City). It was great. Throw in better graphics to replace the cell-shaded matte-colored PS1-PS2 graphics, better gameplay, new era, more cars, more weapons, customization, more shit to do, and I'm in.

Votes are 3:3:3. D=

Not anymore i think it would be good to see it in London but they would have to do it right and it would only be loosely based in London. I think this is where it was going be set and i think the game will still rock wherever it is, i trust them to make a good game.

I have never doubted GTA. I loved Miami, loved the areas in California. This is the first time I am kind of dissapointed. What the hell can Rockstar do in London?

IN GTA: IV: YOU PLAY AS JAMES BOND! 007! BY EA GAMES! YOU HAVE TO PAY 10 BUCKS TO DOWNLOAD CARS AND GUNS ALREADY INCLUDED IN THE GAME! YOU CAN SEE THEM IN AMMUNATION; YOU JUST CAN'T BUY THEM!

-End caps.

My picks in order of preference

GTA IV: RIO
GTA IV: MOSCOW
GTA IV: WASHINGTON DC
GTA IV: BERLIN

- Although GTA always has great music- so europe and south america would be a stretch for a north american designer.

If its in the UK maybe we'll get some nice Morrisey and Pulp stuff?
Or PJ Harvey and Nick Cave. I love me some of that.

Washington DC? That shouldn't be touched, what not with all the politics involved.

Moscow would be awesome. Just fucking awesome. I would love Rockstar if they put a GTA in Russia. Russia is literally 1/3 crime- known statistic. Sad, but great GTA game.

I think we are all overlooking the usual element in GTA. When is the game?

I don't think they have done one set in present day (not the newer ones anyway) but because of all the politics nonsense I think we will see a past blaster again. If it is London, why not set it in the 60s-70s? The original GTA London was pretty much that same idea, only they could make a proper game out of it.

GTA Rio, you would need a carnival =D

They did have a recent present-day GTA- it is called GTA III. Yes, it was the first 3D GTA ever, but come on. It is a 2000 creation.

GTA III was set in the 90s, it was released after 2000.

Mingledon
02-22-2007, 02:43 AM
No, the devs said themselves: GTA III was set in 2000 (present day of whatever the current time was, which was 2000)

Zef
02-22-2007, 11:01 PM
They lied to themselves then =P

I and most of the folks that also played it that I knew always said it was in the 90s, hence the music from around then.

Mingledon
02-23-2007, 02:45 AM
Well, they clearly state in a million gazillion places that it is 2000, especially since GTA: LCS, which is 3 years before GTA III, is set in 1997.

Lies! Max Payne was set in a point in time between now and 20 years ago, and it has bullet time which was in the Matrix, which was released in 1999 so GTA 3 must have been release in the coefficient of restitution to the power of 1999. That means less than 2000 =P

London would be an awesome setting. Not cause of the city itself, but because british gangsters are just flatout cool.

If they set it in London, they'll probably get some of the famous british gangster movie actors to do the voice acting. If they get the guys from Snatch and Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels to do the voice acting, it'd be sweet.

Oh my LORD! I see it all in new eyes now. It's as if you pulled out my eyes and replaced them with fake, but all seeing glass ones. Like that due from Harry Potter!

SUDDENLY-- I SEE DEAD PEOPELZ!!1 And GTA setting dates.

Vinnie Jones would probably end up as the main character if it was set in London, calling people slags and crushing their heads in car doors.

As for GTAIV: 1066, you would need to include the option to marry wenches whilst burning witches. Then you could literally go medieval on someone's bottom.

You all know the new GTA will be set on the mean streets of Plymouth! Imagine it going round killing all the little chavs, then you could blow up the new mall or just kill all the goths that hang outside Virgin Megastore, the opprtunities are endless. Don't worry about the boxart Rockstar, someone did it for you... http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w34/steviecrocker/GTAPlymouth.jpg

A cool thing would to make it in a couple different cities around. like you could start in Washington. and as the story goes on you could go to fly to places such as Moscow, London, Paris (mainly capital cities)

LoadedCannon

I'd rather they thought bigger than one city too, i'd like an area the size of north-west england with big citys like manchester and liverpool with dump slums like wythenshawe to kill chavs and beautiful countryside like cheshire to run over cows in milk floats.

Bigger is always better.

Would be best off if they just create their own virtual city. Otherwise they could be sued by a lot of people due to a lot of different things.

Watch the trailer (http://www.gtaiv.com). Statue of Liberty + What I think is the Chrysler Building = New York.

I just watched it and noticed a few new york landmarks as well, i saw the Chrysler building, the flat iron building, liberty city statue and the empire state building.

However could it also be set in the mans background town as well as it seems he has arrived there and wants to change his ways.
