View Full Version : Hardest Song on Bass?

Much like in GH:WT, I know I have no chance at completing the game on expert guitar, so I will probably try expert bass. I was wondering what the most difficult song to pass on expert bass is, and if there is anything in this game more difficult than BYOB (the hardest song in WT).
Also, at what point does it consider you to have beaten the career? Do you have to do all of the songs or is there a "last song" that it will give you the career completion achievements after completing?
Thanks for any help anyone can give.

for me it was "sick, sick, sick" by queens of stone age... the riffs are offbeat!

Sadly, it's every single song in career.
As for the hardest bass song, I couldn't tell you, I'm about to start my X bass career. Fun fact though, expert bass on eruption has exactly 4 notes.

In order to get the career completion achievements, you have to finish all of the career songs for that instrument (even the non-VH ones). At the point when you finish the last song it will give you the achievements based on the lowest difficulty of the songs you completed (unf, not the difficulty of the song you are playing right then) and all below difficulty achs. So for example i played through the game on drums first. There were a couple songs such as Hot for Teacher, that i couldnt pass on expert so i went to hard to pass those. Then at the end i went back throught he non-VH songs i had skipped and the very last song i passed was Double Vision by Foreigner which i passed on Expert+, at the poitn when i finished this song i got the achs for 'beating' the career on Hard, Medium, easy, beginner.
As far as bass goes, i havent played all of the non VH songs on bass, but i did play all the VH songs and all of the toughest 'guest artists' gig on bass, and for me the toughest two songs to were 'Loss of Control' (VH song) and 'Takedown' (by Yellowcard). Both i got 3* on on sightread, and both due to speed, though yellowcard is not as fast, it also has really crazy rhythm, where its very fast but with lots of unpredictable pauses so that you cant hold a combo for crap during it. Loss of control i did about 10-15 runs on spread out over two days and eventually managed to get the 5* on (barely), you need to be able to strum very fast to hold combo in the fast parts and have any shot at 5*ing that. Pass-wise both of these songs are a good bit easier than BYOB, imo.

Yellowcard - Takedown
QOTSA - Sick, Sick, Sick
Judas Priest - Painkiller
As stated above, Sick, Sick, Sick is offbeat and very annoying at times. If you can pass the first part and then get yourself some star power, save it because there are 1 or 2 more parts throughout the song just like the opening piece.
Same for Takedown. It's fast and at times has sudden pauses. I also got tricked by a few of those "3/4 of the song has HO/POs at this exact time every time ..... then it's suddenly not a HO/PO anymore" gimmicks.
Painkiller was just a bitch to keep the rhythm because I'm still a n00b at up and down alt strumming.

Queen of Stone Age - Sick, sick sick.
Yellowcard - Takedown
but for the "316" achievement only is necessary the Van Halen songs.

Thanks for the input. I don't expect to be able to get any of the achievements for all 5* on Van Halen songs for any instrument. I am just hoping to be able to pass all of the songs so I can get the achievement for completing the expert career. I suck at drums (can't really do better than medium), and despite being able to pass all songs on expert vocals in Rock Band, Guitar Hero vocals seem harder, therefore my best bet at passing everything is on either guitar or bass, and bass is usually easier than guitar so I was going to try with that.
I'll try out the songs listed here in quick play first to see if I can pass them before I attempt career, as if I can't pass them then I may as well do career on hard instead.

As said, Sick, sick, sick is quite difficult. I'm sure that it was harder for me than others because I'm not particularly good, but I absolutely coasted through the rest of the expert bass career.

Sick, Sick, Sick has a goofy rhythm to it. But once you get over that, it's pretty easy. And once that's out of the way, you should be clear to coast through the rest of the career no problems.

Yeah sick sick sick is tough on expert but, I am also having trouble with "So this is love" I just can get the timing of the green and blues down. Perhaps its my tv lagging.

As far as Bass goes, Hang "Em High is difficult to me for some reason, got through all the other van halen songs 5 star expert on bass, but this one gives me trouble for some reason. I think it's mostly because of the sections where you strike the open note and hammer to blue.

"So This is Love" is the only song that is blocking me on bass.
If only there was a way to turn HOPOs off I'd be fine. The alting back and forth between green and HOPO blue just throws my strumming off as the game sometimes thinks I strummed for the blue which I didn't want to and leads to me not strumming for the green which just screws up my timing completely.

Actually it's pretty easy. Maybe sick, sick, sick because it's off beat.
PAinkiller is easy as cake, sightread FC
I was wondering about this also for eXpert Bass (XB).
HFT seems easier than on WT. As one person said on their Score Hero entry, "The outro is WAAAAAAAAAAY easier than that insanity from World Tour"
I only got 3 stars on HFT on first play, but first time pass, so whatever.
I'm more a medium bass player as far as scoring goes.

http://rockband.scorehero.com/manage_scores.php?game=2&platform=2&size=1&team=0&group=2&diff=2&vox=solo
As far as calling Painkiller simple, it's not hard to pass or even 5 star on XB, depending on the player of course. But getting and keeping the timing on the groups of the fastest notes is difficult. As are those groups of three RYB that get faster. So not easy to FC. Although it does seem slower on those fast notes compared to the RB2 version. Perhaps just the size of the buttons/bars, and the difference between HS2 and BNS at expert speeds.
B.Y.O.B. is a pain, all that tapping between colors and opens. But as far as physically difficult, is there anything along the lines of Hollywood Nights in this game? Ouch.
Oh, and most of GH:M. Anything like War Ensemble on XB in GH:VH?
===========================================
Okay, so just having finished expert bass.
This is from the standpoint of passing the songs, but should apply to getting 5 stars (hey, if they're difficult for a semi-skilled player to pass, they're probably difficult to 5 star for everyone but the godlike players, right?)
Loss of Control and Everybody Want Some!! are just annoying in general. But not too hard to pass.
Well, The Takedown is no picnic, the groups of 3 2 1 5 and whatever else all switched up. But not too hard to kind of get. At least to pass without having to reset your mind set.
I can say that yes - Sick, Sick, Sick (besides probably being the worst and most annoying song in the game) is probably the hardest - to stomach the playing of!!! :)
No, ha ha, it takes some timing to get down the two open two blue overall, and then the "tapping" (momentary) of blue. A bit more difficult is (if I remember) the red orange tap-blue orange then blue yellow red slide. If you're able to play the Tool or SOAD in WT you're probably okay here. A bit of practice is probably in order (unless you can sightread FC every other song or just play stuff like this with ease in other games).
Also, there is a Hollywood Nights type song, So This Is Love? Which is mostly a painful and annoying hold green tap blue. No, you can't just keep green down the entire time. Not any chords to speak of, but there's a fair amount of opens. Not enough sp to make it through the whole song if you can't get the pattern (and you probably won't be able to get the sp either if you can't get the pattern).
Aside from the green/blue, there's hold green tap yellow or hold green tap red, thrown in with some random orange and blue sustains and so on that simply serves to make it difficult to get back to the repetitive hold green and tap blue. Oh, and they throw in some strum open tap red. (The breaks from pain are mostly red or yellow sustains with like 3 notes running together.)
If you're not used to this sort of retarded charting, and repetitive monkey feces playing, you'll have to practice to get the muscles and ligaments ready for it. If you've already "had the pleasure" of playing HN on hard, you probably can pass it. (I would say HN expert, but that's open tap yellow so actually that song is easier on expert than hard.)
In fact.....
Yeah, So This Is Love? is way way easier on hard. Don't even hardly need to try to pass it. I'm guessing the others are basically the same.

Sick Sick Sick- Queens of the Stone Age
WHAT A BAD SONG!
the bass is very off beat and hard to follow, practice though. I mean if you are fairly well, you should get this. I mean Expert Bass career should be NO problem. espically if you just want to beat the song, not even 5 star it.

You won't find anything like BYOB on this game. The only song I didn't 5 star my first try was Hang 'Em High. If you are decent on bass, you should have no trouble getting the 316 ach. I'm ok, not really that great.
