View Full Version : Wasn't This Supposed To Have Great AI? Worse Than Ghost Recon 1!

One of the big selling points on this game was the realism and how your AI soldiers would react during combat. Also, how the enemies were going to be wicked smart. What an epic let down, it's as bad as Ghost Recon 1 and how many years ago did that come out? So many times I'm on target shooting at a bad guy from cover, and my squat mate waddles out in front of me so I can shoot him in the head. When you are in scope, you cannot avoid it. You are shooting at a dude, then your friend's head. Also, you may be hiding behind cover with order to follow you, and your squad decides to stand up and face the wrong way so a bullet has a better time getting into their head. Time after time when I'm ducking to reload, I find an enemy rushing my position, and there is a squad mate in between us and all he does is announce that there is an enemy in the West. Even though he is about 2 feet away and kills us all! Advertising realism in a game takes more than just you die quick.

I wouldn't say that they are worse than the Ghost Recon games, but they can still be boneheaded at times. At least they aren't afraid of getting shot(they have no problem charging in)

If you hate the game that much you shouldn't play it. It's unhealthy.

Sometimes the AI has good reason to walk a different way. I noticed they will always leave their location if better cover is nearby. They'll walk over to treelines or vegetation etc. Or there are enemies in a flanking position that you overlooked. I don't say the AI is flawless, because it isn't. But it's not Brothers in Arms where your teammates stand in front of cover instead of behind it.

And the enemy AI hasn't ceased to amaze me. On the first mission there's an optional objective to destroy some SAM's over by the lighthouse. In front is a hill with some caste ruins on top and enemies around it. As I picked off the enemies on top with my rifle on semi-auto one of the fellows crawled all the way downhill, and when I was about to run up the hill the fella suddenly stands up 20 ft in front of me and shoots me in the gob before I could spray him with auto-fire.

I think that the worst is the jeep drivers that stand still, even with you pointing a gun to their heads...

Lol yeah, had that happen to me the first time I played the first mission, but it was the enemy who was controlling the jeep.Quite strange to see.

Games (sim like OPF2) with AI cant be perfect, this game designed for multiplayer and PC (better aim) with human not "campagin" with cheaters AI (good aim, he now where you camping, etc)

I hate that your squad won't listen to you when you need them to the most.

Me: "FALL BACK!" "MOVE FAST HERE!" "MOUNT MY VEHICLE!!!!"

Them: "Nah, lemme finish killing these guyz here. Osnap, I'm down."

gotta agree.. the AI in this game is HORRIBLE. how many times did i die because my teammates were too busy spotting enemies rather than shooting them while i was in the middle of a reload.

sometimes they're doing a great job, but most of the time they're just useless cannon fodder :(

My only gripe with the AI so far is that they seem to "panic on screen" haven't had much of a line of sight problem as a do exactly what i tell you problem, granted if i was getting shot at and my CO said run across that field there and take out that house FAST, i would not hesitate to find cover, but they don't do that they seem to cling to your squad leader running around him like a chicken with their head cut off! LOL o and i play Medic A lot and healing the PC's is almost laughable cuz they never want to stay put, but i have gotten the sense that this was made for 4 player co-op more than the single player experience, so far both seem the same as far as story arc/mission objectives.

It's absolutely ridiculous, it's terrible. One of the many let downs on this game for me personally.

Shoot at it and boom we're dead! Thanks a bunch! Oh and has anybody seen the enemy walking in the air? Or helicopters hovering and then crashing for no reason? Or how about your "wonderful" AI guys shooting into the ground and then complaining they're getting shot? Way too many bugs and glitches..... it's not finished! Codemasters told us "How amazing" this game was gonna be but to be totally honest, so far im not impressed. Ah well, CODMW2 soon :)

I think this has happend.
(1) Did you have ordered "weapons free"? or "return fire"
(2) When you give the order "hold fire" and want them to use their weapons. DON'T give the order "Supress fire", because then they will fire at the location your yellow circle was. So you telling them to supress that location. Which is on the ground.

Well, it doesn't matter, have fun with MW2...good riddance m8

But be warned.....I doubt that MW2 will be "glitch free"

the AI on this game depend on how you are as a player, if you control them poorly they will die easily and vice versa, so try controlling them differently, e.g Flanking, changing the rules of engagement to fire on your lead etc etc

1) Return fire and AI STILL shoot at the helicopter even though the heli isn't shooting!

2) The AI, when crawling, shoot into the ground and don't hit anything but they're getting hit.

As for your "Good riddance m8" comment... I'm only pointing out some of the numerous bugs i've noticed and yes i expect there will be bugs in CODMW2, but not to the pathetic standard of Flashpoints!

I think we can all agree that we WANT to love this game but CM is making it hard on us atm. I will not be giving up on it yet, and others who are mad are very justified in their beef. NOONE wants to pay top dollar for a game that doesn't work properly even if everyone is not having the same experience. Simple fact of the matter is there are a slew of bugs/glitches and that alone makes it hard for a consumer to be happy. not 15 minutes ago i discovered that when i apply field dressings to squad mates anywhere but in the open i get stuck and cannot move, and even then i have gotten stuck. noone logs onto these sites to QQ, they r pissed but they also want what they have come to expect from games in the 21st century. Would it have been so bad if they held off on the console versions to polish them.....I sure can't hate on a team trying to polish their work. But i do get mad when something doesn't work like it should. Just a reminder but i do love what they were going for, i jsut think they missed their own mark slightly in quite a few areas. Let us hope that all the feedback we give is going towards that polish! ;)

as this will cause the helo to attack them, and i dont know what your all playing like but as the post Slacky Dave put the AI plays like you dop, so if you sprinting over a field they will be sprinting too, and if the return fire is active, then they shouldnt be firing first, they will fire then your team will,

i never get the problems listed in this forum, as i always use LINE formation, stackes to the left and right of me, which removes the scoping problem, increase the team spacing to combat spread (like you should anyways), this lets them cover much more area and different cover points. Oh and why the hell you staying as one massive squad group in the first place, split up and order two men to stay 50 meters to your left, just dont leave them there...

IF you play this game the way that the dev's hope you do, you wont see these problems, the reason the AI dosnt fire some the time is that they cant see through building, hedges, walls, YOU, or perhaps they just genuinly dont know they are there. CHECK YOUR ORDERS. if in doubte place WEAPONS FREE and left your team shoot first.

This isint COD where run and gun is an option, you HAVE to think strategically, place here, hold fire, we get here, they get there and open fire, kill em all quick and clean... 1st time every time!

oh and by the way I LOVE THIS GAME! just as good as ARMA 2 and OPF1!

I've found an easy answer to stupid AI, if there is a co-op option don't play with the AI. And yes they are quite stupid. Any developer that says the AI in their game is amazing always contradicts what they say as I haven't yet played a game where the computer players are amazing.

They hyped that with Resident Evil 5 and the AI in that game was next to useless also. Best thing to do is find a few people to play in co-op and enjoy the experience.

Didn't buy this game for the AI - who cares how good they are. This is way better than any shooter I played on Xbox and certainly kills crap like halo and cod.

You are supposed to take control of the AI so if you shoot them in the back you are partly to blame yourself. Maybe you should consider how poor your own AI is before slating this...

So I had my Fire Team on hold after I put them in the barn cuz the medic was shooting dirt and i got hit, as i was entering the barn i got hit again, through the wall imo, but no replay so w/e. i asked my medic to heal me he then proceeded to stand up then lay down which i thought was funny, but then he stood up again and seemingly could not move and never once verbally negated my order as i could only think it was due to the fact that maybe the barn had an invisible wall as it did not have any windows. It would have been nice to be able to crawl as a wounded soldier to him even with the leg damage i had taken. But alas I was doomed to bleed out. The only other thing i can think of is that he got stuck on a bad piece of mapping.

I'm sorry but i beg to differ on this, i've had this happen to on several occasions on the 2nd mission, i've NOT told any of my teamates to shoot at the heli but as soon as it flys over one guy always shoots at it. So is that my fault for telling my guys to NOT shoot at anything or is it dodgy AI?

The AI in this game is certainly better than some games, I wasn't expecting it to be as amazing as the developers bragged it was to be honest.
I've only had problems retreating from heavy fire situations, those situations of course are my own fault for taking a 4 man squad against 10. But I was at least hoping I could cover my ass by being able to have my team mates fall back tactfully without being gunned down. This isn't the case, after getting into the situation I could have fallen back behind cover of a large enough hill beside the airfield and had my men regroup & heal up... instead 2 of them run forward & get shot dead and the other one falls back... wtf DX

Ahh well, I love this game anyway lol I look forward to playing it on Hardcore single player.
