View Full Version : I Have Been Converted

I have never, ever liked the GTA-style action/adventure games. Ever.
(note that I have a combined 330 points for Just Cause and Saint's Row). Simply put, I hate running around with a billion different things to do, not knowing what to do first (some call it freedom, I call it lack of structure). To top it off these games all have awful physics, collision detection and controls (IMHO).
Looking at pics and videos of Crackdown, as well as reading hands-on reviews of early builds, I was completely expecting this to be another stinker in my book, but this demo has completely shut me up. Beautiful graphics, functional lock-on aiming, great controls, a great style and most notably, it just feels right. The driving, shooting and my favorite, jumping, all feel fantastic. The cherry on top is top-notch production values (thanks for nurturing your eggs and not letting them hatch too early MS :) ). I was planning on laughing at everyone wasting money on this game next month, but now I'm going to go pre-order it and sing it's praises up-and-down the streets.
The problem with GTA-style genre busters is that the developers have to be good at driving, shooting, story and general chaos in their games. One bad cookie in the jar will ruin the whole cookie experience, no matter how sweet the rest are.
GTA managed to stay within acceptable levels in all areas for most of their games (personally I hated the whole 'gangster' thing in SA) whereas other games might have strayed off the path.
Crackdown will probably be this decades best hope of making a GTA buster, but with GTA IV hot on the heels of Crackdown they had to outdo themselves before knowing the enemy.
I too am converted =D

Glad to hear it MollyWhopper I started downloading the demo before leaving for work so hopefully it was able to finish before the six hour auto shut off. Now stop playing the demo and send me those variant Pinatas :). Ohh and thanks again for the feedback times three it worked, I'm back to five stars.
This deo is Simply Amazing. This game feels Awesome. The Graphics arent Exactly Stellar, but they have their own style. The controls are really good, but I did find a Couple of Problems. I didnt like the reload and Greande Button. I guess I have to get used to it. I also didnt like how clicking the Thumbstick amde you jump along with the A Button, Two buttons do the same thing. Another thing is that I didnt see any Arrows to tell me the Fastest way to go, and tried to toggle them with the map, but I seriously didnt see a feature like this. Not to say I dont like this game, Because I really do. What I like was: The Stylish Graphics, The Overall Controls, The feel, The Aiming, The Body Part Aiming where you can choose what part to aim at and how its harder to get your curosr still when your aimed at the head. I alos like the dude who talks although sometimes the comentary was late. For example, I attempted to pick up a car, and about 15-30 Seconds later, I Hear "Thats too Heavy to Pick up just Now!" I will definetly be buying and recommend at least trying iot to everyone.!

I don't know what Pinatas you need? Send me a grocery list and I'll bag them up and even cart them out to your immaculate whip. And I'm glad the feedback thing worked (that system is so screwy)...
But yeah, it only took me about 45 minutes to DL but I've heard a lot of people were getting a data trickle. Since discovering that I'm going to like this game I've done some more research and found out that it's not that deep, and the story is a model of brevity... Which I'm OK with. I'll take a carefully crafted rental over a 200+ hour POS any day! Now if they can just find a way to fuse the two...

I, too, am one of those converts. At first I was like, "ok, another GTA rip off" and then I jumped... then I leveled up in strength... and firearms... and agility... it is amazing. I am buying this game.

I was skeptical at first( I admit I pre oredered the game just for the HALO 3 BETA) so when I awoke and turned my 360 on(normal on an everyday basis) and saw that the demo was out I had to get it, Now I am extremely happy that I have this game paid off ahead of time(the halo 3 beta is just a bonus...a HUGE bonus) but Im very happy w/ that totally random decision. plus I like the fact that my Girlfriend liked it and can play the game with me!
Got to love it when videogames bring you and your loved ones closer:)
