Easy way to beat the final boss on very hard (spoilers)

After spending some time on this battle against barnsby and his guards and dying countless number of times i managed to find a easier method of beating him on very hard (it will still work for lesser difficulties). This method is better done with Ray for the dynamite, however if you wish to try it using Thomas' bow then go ahead.

Now when you get to the top of the steps and you are facing the pillar in which the game tells you to get behind, do not go anywhere near it as this will trigger the bridge to collapse and the guards to come out. Instead stand back towards the door behind you and everytime barnsby pops out give him a rifle shot. After about 4-5 shots you will hear him say "Arrrrrghh" or something along those lines, now he will not bother you anymore in this part until the actual duel.

Now try to beat the first wave of guards with just your rifle as this is the "easy" wave, now when the next wave appears (you will know they have as your partner will begin to start shooting like a madman) start to throw your dynamite and hope you get most of the guards, again once these are clear await the next set and do the same thing. Now after this wave there should be no more, so slowly poke out to see if there is a random sniper at the back. If so, pick him off and then this should trigger the small bit of conversation where barnsby challenges you to a duel.

The duel itself is pretty tough (i am on it as we speak) but its pretty self explanatory what you need to do. At least you will only have to retry the duel if you die at this point as you will recieve a checkpoint. Good luck and let me know if this helps you out.

Where do I stand after taking out Barnsby? Behind the Piller? Or somewhere else? I've been stannding the corridor.

EDIT: YES!!! It took a while but I got there eventually, and completed the showdown on my third attempt. :) I got about 4 achievements from it.

My checkpoint before that part was PITA. I was in very bad condition and occasionally get shot before reach the top.
Anyway, I manage to beat the game now.

I realise you managed to do it but for all other people, once you make the guards spawn stay straight behind the pillar and peek out to the left with the dynamite!

Yep thats what I did :p. Works better than staying in the corridor because you can't get the Dynamite over there with out getting killed.

A hint for the Barnsby duel (though trial and error should be enough for you guys). Don't touch the right stick, follow him with the left stick, and count to 21 or 22. Then go for your gun. As soon as you reach the gun the bell should sound, should you count "one one thousand, two one thousand" at the correct pace.

Starting my game on very hard tomorrow morning and hoping to beat it at around 5 or 6 tomorrow night..

I don't get it. I've tried everything. I'm playing as Thomas. I shoot Barnsby before going to the pillar...I'll get to the 3rd wave or so but I get blown up if I take my time and if I peak out to SHOOT the snipers, I die in one hit.

Any suggestions?

I found picking at him from the doorway to be very tedious and it doesn't always stop him from peaking out and shooting at you once in a while. I used thomas as ray is next to useless half the time apart from dynamite. Anyhow, i found hiding behind the pillar and slowly peaking out but just until my crosshair turned red and then shot. Would always kill the guards, you can shoot through the pixels and take out most of the guards without being shot.

As long as your fast you won't be killed by dynamite either, hiding in the doorway is also a bad idea, if a sharshooter spawns they will kill you straight away. Also ray or thomas will be killed as they stand in one of worst places.

Just remember the last wave gives you 4 sharpshooters on the right and 2 on the left i think. This is more trial and error but picking them off like this seems to be the easiest way, i have tried all methods and all the others worked up until the last wave where i couldn't pick off the sharpshooters fast enough.

Yeah...I was just patient and beat it.

A good method I used was getting real close to coming OUT of cover but NOT coming out of cover....to see the sharpshooters locations, just wait until you see the on-screen indication of someone shooting at you and in between reloading, pop out QUICK, scan, and shoot them. Worked for me.

Another tip is to switch of the Dynamic cover for this part since the pillar is round.

When there is only the 2 Snipers at the back right side left you can slowly sneak to the left of the pillar (still in hiding). If you sneak enough to the left side they will start throwing the dynamite into the back of where Marisa is thereby killing themselves. (in order to do this dynamic cover must be off otherwise your character will bend around the centre pillar and you will be in open sight for the snipers).
It worked great for me as didnt even have to kille the last 2 snipers, they killed themselves.

Good Luck to anyone on this chapter cause this was by far the toughest part on very hard.
