View Full Version : Glitchy way to win AI matches

I think, anyway! I was playing the Blue deck, on the easiest difficulty (set in game options), against the second form of Garruk. I played Memory Erosion, an enchantment which makes the opponent discard two cards from his library every time he plays a spell. This isn't really a huge punishment, but apparently the AI thought it was - he stopped playing cards! So I had six or seven turns to chip away at his damage with my flyers.

I haven't had the chance to try it with other enemies, but its interesting nonetheless. Seems that the easy difficulty (is it Mage?) makes some pretty stupid decisions :P

I played Pariah on Garrus's Verdant Force (7/7) and he stopped attacking me. He had over 40 1/1 counters and over a dozen other creatures he could have easily just gone in with just 1/1 counters in a few waves to kill me. Instead, I attacked with Knight of the Skyward Eye (2/2), buffed with Sangrite Surge (+3/+3, double strike) and the KotSE's ability to get +3/+3 and was not blocked, he just let it through. Then I just played the Blaze I was saving to finish him off the next turn.

I have played around with the Memory Erosion card, mainly with Tezzeret. Combined with his howling mines, he burns through his cards so fast, he has to forfeit when his library runs empty (evacuation didn't help). When I played against him co-op with two full blue decks, he could keep playing until both were out of cards (just one more turn). According to WotC, his Platinum Angel won't save him from losing in that case. Kraken Eyes kept me from losing that game, I had 4 total I think, at the end I had over 100 life.

In Magic, if there is a conflict between rules caused by two or more cards in play, the one which says "can't" on it wins out.

Platinum Angel will prevent you from losing in a paper game due to drawing from an empty library. In fact, it does just what it says on the card, there is no way to lose the game as long as the Angel is in play. (There are 3 special exceptions to this rule, first is that you can still concede the game while controlling an Angel. You may also be given a game loss by a judge in a DCI sanctioned tournament due to time limits and/or a rules infraction.) Although it was probably changed for the XBL version to be a little more acomidating to newer players.

I'm not doubting your word Shinobi, but I am curious where you found that from WotC.

A friend said the comp probably concedes when it can't draw. I asked him about the card when I was talking over live and he looked up the rules regarding the card. Next time I will try allowing the comp to keep it in play until it runs out of cards to find out for sure but there is a pretty good chance it will be discarded if Memory Erosion is in play before it gets drawn.

Care to start playing two headed giant games with dual blue against the comp? Dual Memory Erosion would be very nasty.
