The guy is 43! If his arm does not fall off before the end of this contract, I will be surprised. Why didn't the Diamondbacks just keep him the whole time? :p
"Only a few details remain before Randy Johnson (http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/4288/) rejoins the Arizona Diamondbacks (http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/teams/ari/). Johnson agreed Sunday to a $26 million, two-year contract with Arizona, leaving only physicals and final approvals to complete his trade from the New York Yankees (http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/teams/nyy/). New York, which acquired the Big Unit from Arizona two years ago, would receive reliever Luis Vizcaino (http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/6291/), minor league right-handers Ross Ohlendorf and Steven Jackson, and minor league shortstop Alberto Gonzalez. He failed to win both of his postseason starts with the Yankees, and on Friday the Daily News ran a back-page headline that read: "GOOD RIDDANCE.""
And NO. that is not the Steven Jackson that plays for the Rams... no more Bo Jackson's around here ;)

This guy just had the wrong chemistry with the yankees. Kinda like the odd man out. Don't know if he's got any arm left, but he sure couldn't work it in NY.

are you serious. Randy has plenty of arm left. Did you watch him last year? he's the smartest pitcher since nolan ryan/roger clemens. He knows what he has to do to be around for many more years. Hes a beast.
onto the odd man, yeah he never really seemed happy in NY. the happiest i've seen him was in Arizona pitching with curt schilling.

Johnson is and always will be a great pitcher. I wouldn't question whether or not his arm would hold up. I think the real question is whether or not the rest of him will. It's going to be a long hard season and who knows if his body will stand up to the punishment and he'll make it through the season. Hope he does though, the Diamondbacks being good again would be pretty good.

he's still good. he is a smart pitcher. anyone who lasts that long has to be to survive. he is definitely not the pitcher he was before, where every single hitter in the league is afraid to face him. instead of blowing you away with heat and dropping the nasty slider like he used to, he hits his spots and drops the nasty slider. but he is much more hittable now.
i predict he gets off to a good start--much better than last year--but then drops off. (i really want to see someone's arm fly off during a game!)
but NOTHING. and i mean NOTHING..will be as cool as him smoking a bird with a 95MPH fastball! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iPi23s8Tiio

I completely forgot the pitch hitting the bird. That was amazing. I don't know though, an arm flying off might be even better. But the physical pain might cause it to lose points.

Everything you guys said was right but you y'all forgot one thing. Left handed power pitchers are very rare. If one can keep there era under 4 they will get 10 million a year. That's why Randy Johnson got the contract he got. The only problem i see with him is hitting in the national league lol. Being 6'10 it must be hard. Very large strike zone.

very true, CAUSE. did you happen to find my Johan Santana thread from a week ago? you said it perfect. Lefties are $$$$ right now, cuz they are rare and in high demand.
he never did hit well...he had a couple decent years of bunting though ;) poor guy.. hehe
