What are you supposed to do on these?
It simply tells you to kill enemy troops but there's no objective markers on the mini map.
Just the blue house in the middle of a town / city.
I'm not having any trouble with the small liberation and takeover missions which generally work along a dirt track with 2/3 blockades, but the larger area ones, that have armoured vehicles on the ground usually a couple of helicopters, what are you supposed to do ?
I've completed one, I guess by fluke where it eventually told me to go to the middle and change the flag, but the last two I've tried all the AI is running in random directions and before I get a chance to shoot at anyone it's telling me that the "Liberation Failed". :(
In the cities, the troops should just keep respawning and you just need to kill them until you fill the meter and then you can go get the flag when it gives you the message :)
Oh and the liberation failed bit usually comes when you either don't kill enough or go to far away from the city.

thanks. I'm not going mad, that works fine on all the other cities I've tried so far, but this particular one is driving me nuts.
there just don't seem to be any troops to shoot, lots of enemy vehicles which if I blow up don't affect the takeover bar. :(
I shall persevere, sure it will work eventually.

Some tips:
-It would probably be benificial to hijack an enemy helicopter during the liberation so you can use it. Just point your grapple at it, and reel in, if you miss try again. Make sure you don't fly too far away from the city or the liberation will fail.
-Try to avoid going in ground vehicles, especially tanks since they are so slow. You can get blown to pieces in one hit from a helicopter missile/other tank and it can get frustrating.
-If there are any enemy tanks and you're not in a helicopter, just get in the tank for a second to kick the driver out, then get out of the tank immediately and kill the driver.
-In case you didn't notice, you capture the flag when the bar on the right screen gets all the way into the green.
Hope that helps :)

How do you actually start these liberation missions (cities - marked blue/government settlements)?
I have done several of them in the game already but it always seemed that I finished a collection mission in the city/town and then talk to the guy marked with the green exclamation mark and the liberation would start. Now it seems that these guys are just side mission dudes. I've already completed my required 50 side missions and really don't want to bother with anymore if I don't have to.
Do I have to do some more side missions to trigger these liberations? Or do I just run around and start shooting up the place so that my wanted level rises?

The province needs to be politically unstable before you can liberate it. You destabilize them by completing story missions.

Thanks. I wound up figuring it out for myself. I'm doing all the side missions, races and other extra stuff before I carry on with the story so I was stumped when I couldn't do those government takeover missions.
It's kinda odd liking this game. It's got a ton of issues but I'm still having fun with it. I guess I'm just a sucker for "sandbox" games.
