sonic + knuckles - sonic 1 , 2 , 3

does anyone know if you can use this game collection to play as knuckles in sonic 1 , 2 , 3 ?

I didn't see any way to unlock or option to play Sonic & Knuckles with any of the other Sonics. You'll just have to settle with Sonic & Knuckles alone.
