If you spend the 800 and change your gamertag do you keep all you achievements / friends list etc? Anyone know anyone who has done this? I'm tired of people always trying to talk about new york with me lol

While I haven't done it personally or known anybody that has, I can't imagine that you don't get to keep all your achievements. Otherwise, why not just make a new account? The friends list could go either way, but unless you've got a big friends list, it shouldn't be too difficult to write them all down and enter them again.

I'm sure you keep everything - achievements, friends, etc. Someone on my friends list changed their gamertag and he still had the achievements and such.

I think that changing your gamertag name shouldn't cost a thing. Microsoft is just trying to get some easy money by charging money for this action.

I think they are more so trying to discourage people from changing their gamertags.
