Yeah it was. That album was the start of the decline but it still wasn't bad then after that they fell off a cliff. It wasn't a steady decline they just dropped.

Yeah i agree 100%, and honestly i've noticed most REAL metallica fans feel the same way.
Most REAL Metallica fans were old enough to make it to their Master of Puppets tour :)
PS- Their "new" stuff is good too, it's just not the same as the "old". Just because it's not as thrash as it was doesn't mean they aren't good beats. A "real" Metallica fan would stay true no matter what.
PSS- Garage Days is "new", but some tracks are "old" and others are just remakes. Is this considered "new"? Because it's one of their best albums. And it's double-disc.
I can't believe how many of you hard rock guys there are on here and I have yet to see any one list:
1. Meshuggah (Seriously, if you haven't heard of them and their amazingly written music, um... Well. Go read a book.)
2. Metallica
3. Skid Row
4. Green Jelly (Without Green Jelly there would be no Tool. And there are a LOT of Tool fans who have never heard of Green Jell˙. Just so you know, Danny Carey was one of the drummers in Green Jell˙ before they split. Everyone knows Carey and Maynard make the band.)
5. Racer X

Nah, those are actually really my legit. favs
CoF is beautiful, I've been a huge fan ever since I happened to click through the music channels and there it was slapping me in the face harmonious screaming, badass riffs, and a pipe organ what more could you want?
I defenitely have to say I love there newer stuff than old, tho
they've definetely come a long way from death metal to gothic metal to what they are now which i'm still not sure what it is but I like it :woop:
My favourite album is def. Nymphetamine, which i'm sure alot of you who have been with them since the beginning will disagree, to each his own
Never got to see em' in concert tho:mad:
If you find yourself around Midland, Tx check em' out man, alot of energy and charisma, the Vocals name is Jesse Garcia, the man's got a voice that'll have you saying "Eh I kinda like it" which is AWESOME for a mariachi band, especially a white washed brown boy such as myself.

I don't think CoF ever played death metal. At least you didn't call them black metal. I'll agree that they are gothic/symphonic. I used to be into them but my interest faded over time. I'll also agree that Nymphetamine is their best album. I think they really found their sound on that album and then decided to throw it away with Thornography.
Personally I can't bring myself to pick 5 bands. I love all of my music. I love some more on some days but it changes constantly.

Red Blinky: Roadrunner United was a compilation album of different arrangements of Roadrunner's artists. 4 captains were chosen (Dino Cazares, Rob Flynn, Matt Heafy and Joey Jordison if memory serves me correctly), and they'd select different musicians from bands on the Roadrunner label (Wierd how the guys from Nickelback were left out isn't it?). Some of the songs came out really good "The End", "The Enemy" and "The Dagger" to name a few. It's not really a singular band, as every song on the album was written and played by a different set of musicians.
Zebatov: I have one of the orignal Green Jelly albums when it first came out, and their name was "Green Jello". It was before they were sued and forced to change it to Green Jelly. Pretty sweet huh?
As for me, my all-time Top 5:
1. Pantera (saw them 9 times live, and finally met Vinnie this passed Sept. R.I.P. Dime!)
2. Machine Head (local fan of a local band since 94 baby!)
3. Chimaira (met Mark Hunter a few weeks back, very chill dude, signed my IOR album)
4. Testament (These guys are what Metallica SHOULD'VE been post 1991. See their 1994 release "Low" and their 1999 release "The Gathering" for more info. Local boys make good.)
5. Divine Heresy (just met the band about a month ago, their guitarist Dino used to be in Fear Factory)
Non-Metal Favorites:
1. Stevie Ray Vaughan (R.I.P.)
2. Alice in Chains (argument can be made that they USED to be metal. R.I.P. Layne!)
2. The Eagles (No, I'm serious.)
3. Ra (Dude can SING..check out their live album "Raw")
4. Sevendust (same argument can be made as AiC.)
As far as Metallica goes...
Shouldn't a band with the word "metal" in their name be MORE metal than anyone else out there? These guys technically haven't been the same since Cliff died (R.I.P Mr. Burton...dude...I have too many deceased musical icons on here). Justice was a mixing nightmare, the Black Album wasn't AWFUL, but they haven't recaptured that Metallica-type-invincibility since like 1993. Load and ReLoad were downright offensive (although in their defense, those albums are mixed beautifully, and Jaymz voice never sounded so clear). When I saw all the copies of St. Anger piling into Tower, I said to myself..."I didn't know they could stack crap that high!"
Honestly, them hiring Rick Rubin as producer for this next album is literally their last ditch effort in keeping their career moving forward. If they don't, they're done. Rubin moved Slipknot and System of a Down into the "rock royalty" category, and Metallica needs him to work his magic for this next album.
I guess, in their defense...how do you top what is widely accepted as the best metal album EVER in "Master of Puppets" ?
*Edit: I bolded the band names so people who didn't want to read my rubbish wouldn't have to.

It was in response to some of the other Metallica rants I read on here...
They're a band I've liked in the past, and I REALLY want to see them succeed on this next album, but as I said, a band with the name Metallica, shouldn't be putting out alt-rock albums like Load and ReLoad and then piles of crap like St. Anger.
I don't understand why you don't understand my rant as it correlates to my Top 5...I would think it'd be crystal clear.

Because Pantera is totally overrated and should have stayed a hair metal band. RiP DiM3!1!1!!11!11 GETCHA PULL BROTHA! Who cares?
Testament is big 4 thrash, so what? It's nothing special imo.
I don't know Divine Heresy but with a member of Fear Factory in it they must suck.
Machine Head sucks. Plain and simple they just make lame music. I saw them live and it was one of the worst shows I've ever seen.
Chimaira is bearable. They just sound like so many other bands right now they're boring. More breakdown heavy shit that's not doing anything for metal.
I just don't see the point of making a big rant about Metallica. Who cares about Metallica? They made some decent tunes 20 years ago. Let it go. To be honest I should have stopped reading your post after that Roadrunner United thing. I assume you listen to Slipknot, Trivium, Fear Factory, and that bullshit? That shit isn't metal. If you want to listen to Machine Head I suggest you pick up a copy of Deep Purple's "Machine Head."

I apologize that my personal favorites don't agree with you. I guess I should check with you next time I want to form my own opinion on anything.

I just find it funny that you go on this tirade about how Metallica should be making "Metal" albums. Meanwhile you're listening to bands that are widely known as false/fake radio metal.

"widely known" by whom?
And on what radio station do YOU listen to MH, Divine Heresy, Chimaira and Testament? Let me know so I can listen to that station.
Even if, the bands named above are again my personal favorites. If you categorize them as "false/fake radio metal" then I guess that's what I listen to. I don't need your comments or validation to make me feel better about what I am partial to.
And whatever my likes and dislikes are have absolutely zero relation on whether Metallica's albums are metal or not. It's pretty much common knowledge that people split Metallica's career into Black Album and prior and "everything after". And that "everything after" is non-metal. This isn't a new development.

Muse
The White Stripes
Rage Against the Machine
The Raconteurs (NeW ALbUm oN 25th!!! LOlz)
Elliott Smith (the god of songwriting)
I would like heavier music but it's usually ruined by the vocals being screamed like an angry 5 year old and drums with no sense of rhythm. And yeah I'm pretty mainstream. Though I like funk, blues, classical, pretty much anything other than R&B pop crap and pop punk.

Never heard Rosa and not a fan of Bomb the Music Industry but I love all of the other bands.
Defiance, Ohio is my favourite of those and their best album is definitely 'Share What Ya' Got'.
Shame I didn't put any folk punk on my list, but I do listen to a lot of it... Chuck Ragan, Rumbleseat, Saw Wheel and Tim Barry are awesome too.
Check out my list and see if you like any of those bands... they all have the same vocal style but not acoustic.
