Well, in my never ending quest to stave off boredom at the workplace, I have picked up the reigns of Flash and have been attempting to make some games. Another reason why I'm working on this is the hopes that it will give me a bit of a headstart on game design when it comes time to start programming in XNA for the Arcade. (Yes, with luck and sweat you too could have the game designed by a fellow forum-goer on your gamercard.)

Anyway, the first "finished product" is now available on my website. Behold the glory of Rock, Paper Scissors (http://monsterb0x.com/flash/rockPaperScissors.html)! Ok, so the dull truth of the matter is that it's not very impressive. However, it is a fully functioning game written in ActionScript and I learned a lot making it. From here I plan on moving forward into more and more complicated territory, so if you're interested stay tuned.

Any feedback or worthwhile comments would be much appreciated. Thanks guys and I hope you have fun with it. :)

Not yet, but future games that are more than simply betting on a random number might have some "achievements" associated with them. Basically, it'll write your accomplishments to a database and share your points acquired. Similar to a high score board for other Flash games, only the points are acquired by completing different items. Also, I'm working on a log-in system that will allow stats to be persistant for a user. That's going to take some more time though. ;)

I bow to your superior programming skills!

Yeah in highschool I used WinOOT and we never learned how to make really good GUI. My GUI skills really suck and I can never make a good looking game. I want to start programming again, but we'll have to see. WinOOT is totally different then XNA. Plus I haven't programmed for what 2 years?
But monsterbox pretty cool basic game. It looks decent which is something that counts. It doesn't look half-assed. I like. Definitely style wise, a crap load better then anything i've ever made. I bleed with envy.

Actually, it's based on Flash generating a random number from 1-3. So, (as with all true randomness) you're bound to get streaks of various things. Part of the reason humans have such a hard time generating a truly random string off the top of our heads. We subconsciously try to make sure that all members of a given group are hit an equal time. I did an experiment on it in college. Given enough trials, a human being generating a "random" pattern of 4 objects/numbers/whatevers will typically end up falling out to roughly 25% for each object/number/whatever. Ah, the glory of maths.

Anyway, duck-hunt style shooting engine is in the works as well as a 2-D SuperNES style RPG combat engine. Complete with items, specials, magic and summoned monsters. That one is taking a bit of time though and being built in Flash 8 rather than Flash 7 (which is what I have at work) so I can take advantage of some of the advanced classes and networking of the higher level AS. After I finish prototyping the combat engine, I'm going to attempt to branch it out into a versus multiplayer aspect. So, people on the forums could fight each other in the MonsterboxRPG.

Ok, I'm rambling now, sorry. This is what happens when I get over-tired. I'll stop boring you. lol

o and also not bad for ur first one dude, and its hard to comment on something so primitive (like basic) but i like the #1 hand the holds up when he wins but whats that when he loses, also it could be smoother like having the go button right next to the options or saving ur pick from last round, but its all good for ur first, lol
