okay

first off, this is my second 360. the first 360's (made in '06 -pro) disc tray stopped functioning properly so we got a new one unaware that we could in fact get the first 360 repaired. I transferred my content licenses to the second 360 (made in '08-arcade). the first 360 was sent in and repaired. now we have two 360s.

The second 360 is now suffering the same disc tray problem and needs to be sent in for repair. I've already used the license transfer tool to place the licenses on the second 360 and you can only use it once a year. I'm afraid they'll wipe the licenses from the console and I'll be screwed. I have alot of DLC and themes, etc. and i still don't have all the licenses from the first license transfer. I also don't have easy access to live or else it wouldn't really bother me but the majority of my playing is offline. Its also about 3/4 of a year till i can use the transfer tool again. Without my licenses I can't play Fallout 3 or Burnout Paradise or any of my Guitar Hero: World Tour songs.

A buddy of mine recieved a refurb after sending his in for repairs and they wiped it clean of licenses, But xbox customer support said that they would move the licenses in the repair process. I'm so confused and overwhelmed with info I'm unsure of what is going to happen. Any help would be appreciated.

so pretty much what i'm wondering is:

If I send in the second 360 for repairs will my content licenses still be on it when it comes back?
What do I do if the licenses aren't on the console post-repair?

also as a side note the second 360 is less than a year old from the manufacture date. it seems to not read discs anymore as when i put a disc in (brand new nonetheless) it just says open tray. What causes this?

one last question
the first 360 is lacking a HDMI plug in. Why is that?

sorry for the wall of text as i am frazzled at the moment.
Anyone's help would be appreciated

Wait a bit for someone to respond instead of posting multiple times in such a short time period... Im sure someone who can assist you will post when they see the thread. Be patient! :D

When sending in Xbox 360's to Microsoft for repairs they are supposed to transfer the licenses over for you and handle this aspect of the repair. Personally they did this for my first 360 but a friend of mine was not as fortunate and had to wait until his 12 month period was up so he could transfer content again.

Also as you mention rather than repairing the console and sending it back they will often instead send back an entirely different console hence giving you different serial numbers for your console which will not match your licenses of content.

I am not sure if the data migration kit (available free from Microsoft or cheap on ebay) can handle the content licenses as i have never used them but this could be worth looking into in order to swap it back to your first console.

Overall you can either check out the migration kit or risk the biscuit and hope Microsoft do what they are supposed to do and repair the console and transfer the licenses although i would not hold my breath as it is 50/50 in my opinion. If not you could always email/phone Xbox support and see if you can get anything other than mumbo jumbo out of them which is all i used to get.

P.S. HDMI's were not on the original Xbox 360's and so that is why the one from 06 lacks this feature. They were added after a couple of editions initially on the elite and then on the Pro or Premium package (one or the other)

Hope this sheds some light on your issues although i know everything is not answered but its a start.

Peace,

Chief CT

Depends on what the problem is. If its the RRoD, they will send you a refurbished system. Meaning you will have to download everything again to you new console. If you received your new Xbox 360 as the result of a refurbishment or repair, the licenses have alredy been transferred as part of the repair process, and you do not need to use the license transfer tool, but you may need to download the content again.

What do I do if the licenses aren't on the console post-repair?
This should help:

He has already transfered the licenses once though. You can only use this method once every 12 months for some insane reason. especially considering the rate that Xbox 360's pop their clogs.

i appreciate the help. something screwed up my previous posts. i'm hopin and prayin that the licenses are on the console they ship back to me. wish i knew what caused the disc tray to not read discs anymore. also hope that if i get a refurb that it has an HDMI output. if all else fails i'll raise hell to the customer service people.

your last 4 posts have said the same thing????

they don't need your HDD for the repair process, so if ur signed into live u don't have to worry about the transfering licenses.

Let me try to break this down a little

If I send in the second 360 for repairs will my content licenses still be on it when it comes back?

Odds are, you will receive a refurbished console, so your licenses will not work with this "new" console. However, Microsoft is supposed to do a license transfer for you for this new console so all you will have to do is redownload the DLC to refresh the licenses. Unfortunately, it seems to be hit and miss with them, some people have the license transfer done, others (like myself) don't get it done. If it's not done, you will have to call up Microsoft and deal with a CSR.

also as a side note the second 360 is less than a year old from the manufacture date. it seems to not read discs anymore as when i put a disc in (brand new nonetheless) it just says open tray. What causes this?

I'm gonna go with your DVD drive going bad.

one last question

The 360 didn't have HDMI ports until the Elite was released in 2007ish. After that, they slowly made their way onto the other models.

thank you very much jukkakhan (http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/member.php?u=50773) and Chief CT for your help. as for the smurf, perhaps you should read the posts before you click the reply button. i said i don't have easy access to live or else i wouldn't care. a majority of my playing is offline and my previous posts screwed up resulting in the 4 duplicate posts. Thanks again Chief and Juk

Oopsy, saw that you had an error that lead to your quadruple postings. Ignore. ;)

in my defense, it was amidst a rather weird structured paragraph. and your clone posts were long times apart, as well as separated by different posters, it just looks like your being impatient.

but anyway.

call CSR if they don't transfer your licenses. (also you can still play your games, just minus the DLC) you should be able to get them to do something after some coaxing or bitching, but you will need access to live to reset the licenses.

i apologized for the technical error that lead to the quadruple post. perhaps you should read more in depth before judging others as if your better than them.

its ok smurf and i'm sorry. like i said a looong week.

my bad too if i came off wrong, but anway, the transfer kit only works w/ transferring content from small HDD to larger HDD in no way affects the license issue of different consoles.

best bet would be contact CSR 18004myxbox and get the coffin sent (you will most likely receive a refurb as said before, and when on the phone w/ them tell them you have another console you want to use some of your downloads with but due to having done a prior license transfer you can't use that option again.

it might not amount to anything at all, but it's worth a try.

alright i'll try that. the main game this will affect is fallout 3 as i have operation anchorage. I've tried loading my file on a buddy's 360, who doesn't own operation anchorage, and it gave me some sort of error message. i guess cuz i have the gauss rifle equipped.

i'd also like to mention that i came to this board last in my search for answers and it has by leaps and bounds helped me more than the x-box technical support board and the gamefaqs board. and lightyears better than xbox customer support. Thank You.

I'm no better than most here (so don't judge me as such either please) but to be fair, when I see post after post and their time stamps are not a minute after the next (indicating a hiccup on the end user side) then the presumption can be easily made. I don't have the time to whittle through your thread looking for an 'oopsy' comment buried in amongst other sentences.

A tip though: You can always go back into previous posts and edit out the duplication and retype inside of it (ie. "Oopsy, double, triple, quadruple posted. Sorry folks.") to avoid the hassle like I just did with my previous post.

As I said before, I hope you get your problems sorted.

[Edit] I've also noticed a major lack of communication between the outsourced MS Support staff and those that do the actual repairs on the returned consoles. It's almost as if MS Support tell us what we want to hear simply to get us off the phone.

Glowin Smurff

in reference to your Fallout 3 thing, it should just state something about the content isn't available and it should, put you either by Vault 101 or Megaton, the gauss rifle will have vanished from your inventory though, if it does load...otherwise you can try this, get on your buddies 360 w/ your account if he has live, download Fo3 O:A then go and sell the guass rifle then save after you sell it and are back in megaton, it might cure any loading problems.....hope that might help some, and yes this is one of the best sites for getting help on 360 related issues (aslong as your not gamesaving or modding)

good luck. :D

and CBM is a good bloke.
