Yes I have a TIVO, in fact I have a original TIVO for my upstairs TV and a HD DVR for my basement TV. The great thing about the TIVO is the menu system...it's second to none. It's so much better than the menu system on my HD DVR. However, Tivo (at least the normal Tivo boxs 40 hour...80 hour etc) does NOT support HDTV or digital surround sound. There is a satellite TIVO unit that does, but that is $500.
The differnce between a TIVO and a DVR is the menu system to get around. TIVO has a patent on their menu system and it's so simple a child could do it. Plus it has the cool clicking sound.
i have dvr with two satelittes, so i can tape two shows and watch a third, powned.

after you get it hooked up do you have to call the cable or satallite company, or just have the account activated with tivo?
scoobydiesel

after its all hooked up and you turn it on, it takes like along time to laod everything up...but after that you have to give a credit card and what not thats about it, i have comcast digital cable and didnt have to call or nothing, was very easy just kinda slow

Yes, I have a Series 2 TiVo that I modded to put a second, 120GB drive in it. At the lowest quality setting, I can get about 188 hours of recording on it. ::)
Love TiVo.

I think the first one you listed is a earlier model of the Tivo...no longer being made

I got a HD DVR through Time Warner. It's a million times better than the one through Comcast I had in Maryland. I usually don't remember to watch shows or just don't have the time when they are on, except for The Wire and maybe 24.

80 hour silver, series 2, im having some confusion with the whole phone line thing, i was arguing with the chick at best buy and my mom for like 10 minutes over, do you have to have it plugged in forever, or just to start the service, or not at all, we bought one of those 3 month subscription cards from bestbuy just to see if we liked it, so any help with this would be nice
scoobydiesel
02-28-2006, 01:09 AM
80 is what i ahve(same one i ebt silver and what not) so ncie pick
as for the phone i always kept mine in for updates and waht not, im pretty sure you have to keep it in but if you hook it right up to the cable(or shitalite) it might work without the phone line, but it needs updates that i dont think it would get that way
i now have a Wifi thign hooked up to it(cost 40 dollars) so its alwasy hooked up...i still didnt unhook the phone line tho lol
read the booklet it should tell you, its not a big book(or the main one is but the simple set up isnt)

updates meaning like the os stuff or like tv show delays because of sports and what not, because theirs only one phone line in our living room, so i guess a splitter and an extra phone cable would solve the problem, it doesnt tie up the phone like dial up does right
scoobydiesel
02-28-2006, 01:16 AM
I honestly dont know if it ties anything up, im pretty sure it doesnt tho
it updates at werid random times like 3 in the morning and what not.
its for the OS to add new stuff(like i jsut got the Podcaster not to long ago)
but also updates the channle stuff liek what is airing when and stuff
but that part could be doenw ith just hooking it up to the cabkle box.
Id go buy a .99 cent spliter and a 2 dollar phoe cord(maybe up to 10 dollars matters how long a cord) and do it that way
thats how i actuly did it at first
g4m3r7ag
02-28-2006, 01:21 AM
yea i think we have that stuff laying around anyways, we have lots of odd random stuff laying around the house

oh well there you go jsut do that then
also have you looked on the back of the tivo box to see if it has a DSL conector(ethernet whatever) if so you could plug that u8p to your router, but msot have it USB nto ethernet...like mine... :'(

is it just me or does the tivo site take forever to load

I don't have a tivo yet, but am thinking about getting one. It would help to watch the shows that I like more easily, Always seem to have friends over playing games when my shows are on.

Do you have the official 360 one? I tried a USB one from D Link first but it didn't work so I shelled out $90 for the 'official' one and I still hate that I did it...

Yes I have the official one from Microsoft....I did not mind buying it since I considered it a necessary evil. It was really my only option since I did not want a RJ-45 cable trailing throughout my basement.
