I was suprised to come in here and not see a Thread for Nascar. Whats up with that? Its only the best racing in the world.
Let me start it off by saying i've been a fan for about ten years. It's the only sport I follow week to week and is the only thing that is on TV that will take me way from my 360(but now that I have Picture in Picture I can do both). My favorite driver is #29 Kevin Harvick. I like is aggresive dont mess with me demeaner.
Ill be interested in hearing from fellow rednecks(I thought I would say it before someone else does).
Crash is the Nascar fan round here, I'm sure he'll have some happy times in this thread with you ;)

Heck yeah I'm a Nascar fan. Been watching since the mid 80's and never miss a race. I have been to quite a few in person too. Michigan, Richmond, Rockingham, and of course Bristol. Was hoping to be at the Martinsville race this week, but things came up and wasn't able to make it. Now I'll just have to go there next year, along with Darlington :woop:
I root for Jeff Gordon (Now come the boos :p ), but am also a fan of a few others (mostly Harvick, Kahne, T. Labonte)

I haven't been to a race myself, but would give my left leg to goto Bristol. I prefer the short track racing. You can't beat Saturday nights under the lights racing. I do enjoy the superspeedway races to, but really no desire to go to one. I think the would be better on TV for the fact that I know people who have gone to Daytona and they say you really cant see much. With the speed and the size of the place the cars are just a blur when they pass you.
Myself Iam not a big Gordon fan (Pretty Boy:p ), so BOOOO! I do think his a great driver, and respect him for it, but his the type to complain about rough driving and then the next race take someone out.
Does anyone know if anyone has ever won the Busch and the Cup series campionship in the same year before? Love to see Harvick do it.:woop:

What about my man smoke!! to bad he didnt make it in the chase this yr but he will be back. They really should change the pts thing. I like the 10 race deal but they should put like if u win 2 races u get in or have a wild card some how. With so many stars in nascar it would be nice to see 1 or 2 more get in to the chase i think. But since he cant win im all for harvick.. sucks hes had some trouble the last couple of races but thats how it goes. And i would love to get to a short track race iv been to cali 500 twice which was a lot of fun got to meet some drivers and get really drunk.. And of cource lots of hot chicks which is always nice.. Anyone know when a 360 nascar game is coming out?
Crash
10-17-2006, 09:03 PM
Yeah, wins should mean something for the chase. While I like Mark Matin I don't think he should be in it because he still hasn't won a race this year, and Kasey Kahne barely made it in and he had 5 wins. Nascar is most likely going to be adding a bigger bonus in points to the winner next year, so hopefully that will make it so winning drivers are in the chase.
As far as a Nascar 360 game... I wouldn't expect one before next year. They could at least make the Xbox versions Backwards Compatible :(

I've ways thought myself they should give more points to the winner. I mean 5 more points the 2nd? There was talk of expanding the chase to like 12 drivers, but over all I do like the chase.
Mark Martin definitly should be in the chase. As long as Nascars been around its always been based on consistence and theirs no better at it then Mark. If Harvick isn't to win the championship this year, I would like to see Mark get it. I don't think theirs anyone more deserving then him.
Crash
10-18-2006, 12:34 PM
Like I said nothing against Mark Martin. He is a great driver and deserves a championship. No one has ever been as close as him so many times.
But Nascar has not always been about consistency. I've watched it for 20+ years now, and it was always about winning. They used to go out there and drive hard every lap to win and would be dissapointed if they didn't. Now you hear a lot of drivers saying "we didn't win, but it's ok, it was a good points day". This is because they have realized with the points system the way it currently is that they can just focus on being consistent. That is why they introduced the chase, to cose the field up and make them race to the championship, not get a huge lead by midseason and just cruise the rest of the year (Kenseth, 2003). Unfortunately, with the points not being changed, it resulted in just being consistent again. So now they want to add more points to the winner, thus making it so that you have to win races to win the championship, or even get into the chase. Imagine if any other sport let a team into the playoffs without winning a game. It's pretty much the same thing.
Not trying to start an arguement, just saying how I feel about it.
Also, what do you think about the upcoming "Car of Tomorrow" for next year? I'm not real sure how I feel about the new bodies yet.
CovertDog
10-18-2006, 01:17 PM
I dont want to argue either, but theres I couple of counter-points I would like to make. First I don't think you can compare racing to any other sport when it comes to championships. In the MLB or NFL they don't give points for almost winning.
I also stand corrected about the consistency. I shouldn't have Nascar was about consistency, but the point system has been about consistency. Example: In 1996, Terry Labonte beat Jeff Gordon by 37 points. Both of them had 21 Top 5 and 24 Top 10. As for wins Terry had 2 and Jeff had 10. The difference: Average finish. Terry 8.2 and Jeff 9.5. Consistency wins championships. I think these guys want to win every race, but with the big money envolved with the championship and sponors, you cant take a 5th place car and crash it trying to get a win.
As for the car of tomorrow....UGLY!!! But if it dose what its suppose to do(closer racing and easier passing) I could get used to looking at it, I guess.
Like I said, I don't want to argue either, but have a friendly exchange of views. And if that don't work then :chair . Just kidding:p .

I agree on the car being ugly, And I just can't get used to the wing on the back.
Just seen some speeds from Homestead testing and they had some of the COTs on the track. They are running around 5-6mph slower than this years models. They are still learning with them, so I imagine the speeds will increase some, but so far the new bodies are slower.

It wouldn't supprise me with Nascar :p .
The COT is supposed to make the cars safer and better racing.
Safer because the have a bigger cockpit, larger side window for getting in and out easier/faster, seat is repositioned a little farther from the door, etc.
Better racing by making them boxier, and a little less aerodynamic to slow them down slightly (also a little safer due to reduced speeds) and hopefully allow more side by side racing and less "aero push".
A good comparison would be to look at the Craftsman Truck Series. They are a lot less aerodynamic and have a lot of good side-by-side and exciting racing.
As far as the wing, I have no idea why they decided to go with that. Maybe that is where the "cool" factor was supposed to come in.

Well, of all sundays my wife decides she wants to goto the movies, it had to be this one (of course there isn't a good one) . Harvick wins and I'am not here to see it. I'am assuming it was a good race. I guess the only down side was Johnson's second place finish. Hard to make up points when that happens. With Kenseth 63 and Harvick 90 points back, it's pretty much Johnson's to lose now. And I've alreary told my wife not to make plans for me for next weekend.

I at one time loved Formula 1. Never missed a race. But now it seems who ever gets the lead off the line has the win. Theres not anough passing. I would like to see them actually slow them down some, make it closer racing. But with all the money and pride the manufactories put into the series it wont happen. It's not a fan base run series and it's a shame.

I was just interested because I am a pretty big race fan, have been for alittle while given im 18 years old......with that said I have been to Daytona for the past couple years 2000-2007, very fun.
Two years back my dad was given a phone call by BP himself asking to tow one of his cars or fix something in his car. BP returned this favor by getting my Dad and his buddy all access pass to Charlotte Motor Speedway. My dad and his bud hung out with a lot of the drivers, he went to a BBQ for Ryan Newman and had a talk with his crew chief (Matt Borland). He said everyone was nice and friendly he met Jr. and a couple other guys. My dad's friend was a HUGH harvick fan and they met Kevin and asked him to sign his hat, kevin harvick just scribbled on the hat and walked away. He didn't bother to look at him or talk to him, noone was around it was just them and the crews. With that said he was no longer a Kevin Harvick fan.
Thats the only reason why I asked, he is a really cool guy in front of the camara's but maybe the worst driver when it comes to being fan friendly. I don't have a problem with him but could never see myself liking him. I myself usually pick out a rookie and stick with him for a couple years and move on, first it was Stewart until Dale Jr became a Rookie but he was way to popular and WAY to overrated. Now I'm a kasey Kahne fan and hell I guess I'm an Elliot Sadler fan too!
I have nothing against Harvick, was just interested in how you became a fan but you already stated you like his aggressive style which is fine by me.
I'm looking forward to Daytona! :woop:

Forsure people are going to have bad encounters with any celerbrites. I'am not going to sit here and defend him (cause honestly I could see him doing it and I have read something he wrote once I wasn't impressed with), but if it was a couple of years ago, frankly he wasn't nice to anyone. He was going through his worst year on and off the track.
I was a Dale Earnhardt fan. When he passed away I was just about ready to give up on Nascar. I watched the following race and it was the first time I saw Harvick. As I watched the race I was thinking to myself "Who am I going to rout for now?" The only other driver I like was Mark Martin and he was like the complete oppisite of Dale. As the races went by and Harvick won his first race in Atlanta, I found myself routing for him more every week and basicly thats how I became a fan of him.
I know he can be a hot head and not "Man of the Year" material, but I've been with him this long and frankly I couldn't see myself routing for anyone else. So it maybe a good thing I've never met him.:p

Yeah, I was there that night Earnhardt hit the wall, I have never seen so many people in tears. Alot of Earnhardt fans turned to Jr. but I can see how you made the transition to Harvick. He isn't a bad guy, I was just wondering if you met him and he was actually a nice guy.

lol the old fart = Mark Martin, one of the best (even tho he has never won the cup) anyways he had no one behind him to boost him. I also thought they were going to throw the yellow flag, he would have won if so. Regardless good race, nice wrecks. Congrats Kevin.

That was was good but if you want to see a better finish check out the truck race two days earlier...those truck races are always neck and neck.

I'm from england and when i visited florida i visited daytona and was blown away by the size of it! Therefore i stayed up late last night to watch the 500 and all i can say is WOW! I felt a bit sorry for that Mark Martin as the commentators kept sayin this was his 23rd ateempt so as a person watching nascar for the first time i wanted him to win.
I just have one question though - are all the races just round a big oval track because doesn't that get a bit boring to watch? I mean yes it was quick but i like watching f1 better as its much more varied and the cars look way cooler. But i would still have to give nascar 8/10 as it was a obscenely close fought race and if i ever visit the USA again i will most definitely try and go and see a race - the atmosphere looked amazing!

Xterm1n8or, if you get tickets for a race try to get as high up as you can, at daytona anywhere in the second level is a great seat for the race, if your in the lower seats you can't see turn 1-2 and the backstrech.
Also to answer your question, most races are around and oval, they have 2 road courses and I know pocono is 3 straight aways (shaped like a triangle). The tracks get bigger and smaller, my favorite is bristol because its about 1/2 mile long and its a constant battle for position.
I'm glad you enjoyed the race! anymore questions I'm sure we can help you!

I was going to post the ending of the truck race to. It was amazing. I loved how the announcers were declaring the winner when they made thier move. I also have to agree with the two Bristol races being the best races, but for excitement, nothing compares to the final laps at a restictor plate race.
