I noticed in the cutscene at the start of the game he uses a crossbow to killl guards. They have not put it in the game. I think because the targeting would be too awkward. What do you guys think? Would you have liked to see it in the game?

Nah, i like the throwing knives - quick, efficient and quiet and you don't have to carry a clunky crossbow around all day.
Words of a killer, eh? ;)

I Wouldn't mind seeing some extra options weapon wise, Using a crossbow to nail a guard to a wall or something would be pretty cool, especially if you could use the body for a leg up.....

Ah, now i like that idea! Or even the bolts themselves on a particularly high wall? Would be a pretty cool idea. No assassin would carry a crossbow around though, it's too big and clunky.

I thought you got it for getting 1000/1000 boy was I wrong lol. I think some additional weapons would have been a nice touch though, I like the idea of using the bolts or nailing guards to walls as a leg up to otherwise inaccessible areas, that would be nice.

I would like Hitman Blood Money-style weapon upgrades in Assassin's Creed 2.
And while a crossbow might be too clunky, I think Altair (if he's the main character) should at least have a simple bow and some arrows for long range target killing.
Might make taking out your targets a bit too easy though... maybe make it so you can't fire on the main targets. You have to get them with the hidden blade.
It would be nice to have a change of pace in the sequel though. I'd like to see more stealth and less "fighting to run away"... as Jack Sparrow would say.

Yeah that would be pretty cool. Maybe the guy at the bureau lends you it or somthing like that for a special mission. Yeah cause carrying around all day is bit too obvious for an assassins i would say.

That's an awesome idea. I got Assassin's Creed out at the start of the year and got bored of it. Looking at my games last night I thought what the heck and went and bought it (I just got alot of money from Uni). And surprisingly this time I can't put it down. I think the first time I was just blinded having just finishing Bioshock. Although a crossbow would be cool - I like the knives better. As the Joker says 'Knives are personal.'

Don't get me wrong, the throwing knives are cool and all. . . BUT! Having said that, I would have liked to see some versatility in the weapons. A light long-range weapon would have been more than welcome. :D

A crossbow (or an old fashion Bow) would be awesome. They would have to make it where it deals no damage on bosses (too easy). Like, a good example for it is if there is a target you have to go after that's heavily guarded, you could pick off some from a distance so it wouldn't be as crowded.

That idea isn't actually bad. You get lent a crossbow from the guy at the bureau for a special assassination.

Oh... you mean how throwing knives have NO EFFECT ON TEMPLARS WHAT-SO-EVER?
Yeah... might work.

To answer the op's question, the crossbow was supposed to be in the game, but in order to meet a release date Ubi opted to leave it out to save some time.
I personally didn't miss it. It may have been fun, but the throwing knives more than suffice, as you can throw them with 100% accuracy, and you can throw them at 95% of the guards that are a threat to you what good would a crossbow be? I like the joker quote mentioned above, "knives are personal". This game is about being stealthy, planning a way to strike and then executing. It's not about climbing to the top of a tower 200 yards away and shooting your target, that's not fun or challenging. I wouldn't mind the crossbow, but I think it would really take away from the game by making some objectives too easy, someone mentioned the Templars not going down by throwing knives, but they were your toughest adversaries, why take away one of the few challenges in the game?

Might as well throw in a spam machine to
If they were to impliment a bow or crossbow, It would have to be with a really limited amount of ammo. The throwing knives where a good touch, and how you had to steal more to replenish your supply was a great system. If it worked along those lines but had even less ammo, I think one of them would be a great addition.
As far as it being less steathy, what about the giant sword at your side? How about the dozens of gaurds that have bows on their backs? I dont think having a bow would make you any less steathy ;)

I wasn't griping about the Templars. Just had to lol when I pumped one full of all 15 throwing knives and he just shrugged them off like nothing.
As for stealth... PSSH! He's carrying a two foot sword on his hip, a foot long knife on his back and just looks like an all around nasty fellow while climbing around on buildings. The only thing stealthy about AC is the hidden blade.

A crossbow would be stupid. It would mess up the game because then you would have to have some aiming put in the game. It's not Altair either. He is a sneaky guy that uses knives, blades, swords, etc. No bows or anything of the sort.

Even if that is his style... it was advertised. It would probably be best used only out in the kingdom to take down a camp from a distance, or even as a random and very hard-to-do 'counter'?
Talking of stealth as well all he had to do was bow his head in a group of monks... Its a little like putting his glasses on no one knows he's superman

That actually makes sense...
In the opening cutscene, when he "merges" with the Scholars at the end... he's still there. The guys who made the cutscene didn't just make him disappear behind them. If you watch carefully, he walks to the left side of the screen and you can see him walk away in the top down shot.
Though, joining four guys walking down the street is hardly an entire church full of guys coming through a single door.
Oh well. The game's still awesome. I was just playing it earlier today.

If AC 2 is set in a different period of history I am sure there will be a grip of new types of weapons. There are other eras when a crossbow could become a reality but it is a little more badass to be able fling throwing knives into a dude from fifty yards than to shoot him with a crossbow.

I killed a templar with throwing knives once, kept pelting him with then until he fell off of the rooftop he was on and the fall killed him. Other than that, nada. I didn't like that much either.

Maybe it was just an idea or beta or something but i would diefinetely of liked to see it maybe just like for special ideas but i really like the sound of what other users have said that it could be used for shooting the arrows onto walls and then climbing up them. That would be awsome...
