Mission Completion

Is Godfather like Saint's Row where you need to complete all the side missions before you complete the main story line or can you finish the main story and still finish all the other missions (executions, hijackings, drugs, etc.)?

Just don't want to have to redo everything.

I have completed all the missions and completed the main storyline. The side missions can be done whenever, they will not make a difference. I just hate destroying other families compounds. They are so well protected.
